Can Bivin, McGovern, Elmer or McGlinchey play guard? I'd assume no on McGlinchey just looking at his build.

Bivin is the most likely to be moved inside, in my opinion. I would actually predict now with some comfort that he eventually does.

Yeah, this is what people seem to be saying. ISD predicted it:

In The Film Room: Hunter Bivin

Also, before McGovern committed I remember reading something on rivals about how he could play either guard or tackle at the next level, which surprised me, because he looks kind of stringy for a guard, in my totally unexpert opinion.

Actually Golden, I think this is incorrect. I might be wrong on this, but for the 5th OL spot I've heard we have a very small list of people we would consider. Aaron Cochran is borderline. Supposedly we love some guy from MA but want to see him in person... and there is Pocic... and I can't remember if there are any others.

From what I've heard, the fact that we wouldn't be willing to take Dorian's commitment is what has us out. Most expect Pitt or Penn State at this juncture and he wants to make a decision soon to avoid what happened at ND... but like everything in recruiting, that could change.

FWIW Johnson is the highest rated on 247 of any of our o-line commits or prospects, the issue is him wanting to be in a class of 5 elite OL

No, the issue was he wanted to commit, and the staff said that he would have to wait it out. The staff does not rate him as highly as other guys left on the board. He could have been as valuable as Bivin, McGlinchey, and/or McGovern, but they got on the bus before Johnson got to campus.

I think that's harsh. I know the coaches are completely dedicated to winning, but when you're related to someone on the staff AND highly touted and you can't get on board? Damn.

That's too bad. Kind of curious to me. I would have liked for them to take him. I understand having a plan and sticking to it. I trust that they know what they're doing too...I just worry that we might have a situation similar to the Schutt situation last year where, in hindsight, we probably could've/should've taken him. Not that we're waiting for anybody else in that position and not that I'm overly worried about any of our o-line commits, but I hate turning away any good players.

i sure hope we don't have a repeat of last year, where guys wanted to commit but we were waiting on bigger fish, that never bit...

It wasn't a mistake, not to take Schutt. We got Day and Jones; Day is already better than anyone expected, making the two deep. And we still are in a numbers crunch.

Dorian is Scott Bookers first cousin. (Sounds like you couldn't remember we had anyone that was African-American on staff.)

First let me ask you, what did you mean by saying "must be related by marriage"?

I am sure you meant something different, but the only time I ever heard someone use that exact statement, they were referring to a specific diversity of appearance of two related individuals.

you've misinterpreted me.

don't you have any relatives through marriage you do not care for??

5 brothers and sisters on my part so my answer is yes.

#26 overall #2 OT according to ESPN in ESPN150 release. So both 247 and ESPN are HUGE fans of him.

I am as well. Does anyone still think we have a shot?

I think someone said " he wanted in, and we didnt take him"

So I dont know what (if true) that would mean for our chances, but turning away a kid this good, damn.

Anybody know if the rumor that he wanted in was true?

You guys need to remember so guys just fit the system better. Maybe Dorian didn't. I sure would love to have him but maybe hes not the right fit for the blocking scheme.

If I remember correctly, it wasn't so much 'we didn't take him' as it was Dorian thought we were full after taking 4 OL by the end of junior day. So maybe it is that he doesn't fit Kelly's system like GB says or it's a miscommunication.

On the not fitting the system topic. I think you are on to something. I remember watching the games these past 2 years with BK's offense and just kept thinking that these OL aren't quick enough for Kelly's system. He liked to pull his OL quite a bit and the guys Weis left him seemed to be a bit slow. Maybe this is the issue that BK sees with Dorian. Just a thought.

If his 40 time is accurate, then he didn't get turned away because of his lack of speed. Not digging passing on this kid but it's not our call.

He's also Booker's cousin so I would think there is no miscommunication.

I'm thinking that ESPN might be the second best site after 247 now.

Very possible. What I don't like is that they aren't as cutting edge with info, interest, offers, etc. as 247 nor do they use as intuitive of a grading scale..... and they have no formula for team ranks.

I do really like the direction they're heading though. I like it a lot. I like their recruiting profiles, scout evaluation blurbs, etc.
