Drennon Excited By Offer, Ready To Visit .
Tuesday, 13 March 2012 06:39 Christian McCollum . .Dajaun Drennon already had some elite offers, but he couldn’t believe it when he heard he had landed an offer from Notre Dame.
“It was a shocker,” the 6-foot-4, 225-pound defensive end/linebacker from Timber Creek High School in Erial, N.J. said.
“It came from out of nowhere. I hadn’t really been talking to Notre Dame that much, so when I heard they offered me, I was pretty surprised.”
Drennon’s offer sheet now includes national powers like the Irish, Alabama, Florida State, Michigan, Nebraska, Tennessee, Iowa, Ole Miss, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and Washington along with schools closer to home like Rutgers, Boston College, UConn, Maryland, Penn State and Temple.
Notre Dame is one program that has Drennon’s interest now that it has offered.
“I know that Notre Dame is a very prestigious school,” said Drennon. “I know that they have a 100 percent graduation and they’re also a very prestigious football school. The good thing about Notre Dame is they run the same defense that I run in high school, so I feel like I could fit in easily to that program.”
Notre Dame co-defensive coordinator Bob Diaco touched base with Drennon after extending the offer last month.
“He was just basically giving me the rundown and filling me in about how they compare to other schools and everything like that,” Drennon said of Diaco. “They said they’d have me at the Cat position. Half the time I’d be up and half the time I’d be down in a three-point stance. That’s basically how I play at Timber Creek.
“That’s a perfect fit.”
Drennon has already made plans to be in South Bend later this month.
“We’ll be down there March 24th,” he said. “I’m looking forward to building a relationship with the coaches because I believe that’s an important thing. I also want to see how they rank in my major compared to other schools.”
Drennon is planning to major in engineering.
He’s already taken visits to Rutgers, Syracuse, UConn, Penn State, Maryland and Kentucky. The trip down South really opened Drennon’s eyes as it was his first off the East Coast.
“That was good to actually travel away from home because it gives you the experience of meeting different people,” he said. “That was pretty exciting.”
Drennon is also looking forward to taking future visits to Alabama, North Carolina and Michigan. He’ll be looking for a few things when he’s taking his trips.
“The most important factors are what I want to major in, what their ranks are compared to other schools, and I also want to build a good relationship with the people,” said Drennon, who will also have the opportunity to take all of his official visits.
Drennon isn’t going to rush the process and expects to announce in January or February of his senior season.
