So Jr. Day has come and gone? How come we only still have one 2013 commit? I thought it was supposed to rain up in here?

I think it is only a matter of time before we get Bivin. Hell him, his brother, and his coach all retweet the pro ND tweets.

According to the visitor list we only had 5 today. And Issac and Smith won't be committing with in the next week or so.

It's going to be a tough slog this cycle. Brady Hoke and Urban Meyer are going to make life miserable for Kelly i'm afraid. Notre dame is just not a cool school to these kids

The best way to change that is to win. They can't do that untill september. And even then, they will have a daunting schedule to go along with a new QB to boot.

Only really had a shot at Bivin and Matuska this weekend. Bivin had to reschedule. Matuska wants to take his time and think over playing as a 3-4 DE instead of TE.

We also have a Jr. Day with 15+ guests coming on the 24th, and the Blue/Gold game is in April. We'll be fine coming out of spring.

You were like the only sane (well that's really still in question) person who said anything of the sort. lol

I'm Calling it now. Jaylon Smith commits at the spring game.

If that happens and we can get him to sign on the dotted line come next February, I think we will be beyond happy with the class as a whole. It will most likely mean that we have solidified a top 10 class and that the Irish had a successful season on the field.

Perspective seems astoundingly lacking among sports fans, but it still rather stuns me.

A). last year we had ONE recruit through the end of March [Tee Shepard]; TWO in April; Three in May.

B). previous year we had ONE recruit by the end of March [Carrico]; Seven in April; zero in May.

C). prior year we had TWO by the end of March [Lombard and Smith]; zero in April; One in May.

hmmmm.... let's see: 1+1+2 divided by 3 years ... hmmmm.... and there's 1 this year so far.... wonder how Kelly's recruiting will end up at the next NSD.... probably a complete disaster, I guess.

The point is the rationalization of scUMs record commitments after their Jr. day. We were told to hold on and wait, we haven't even had our Jr. day yet!

Skunkbears need to hold onto all of those guys, good luck, Urban will flip a few.

As for ND's lack of commits, I can't worry about this until the end of the year, if they start winning some games, playing NASTY defense and high octane offense.......it will all work out.

New staffs for Michigan, and OSU. People are excited. Playing time card is getting thrown to those recruits a lot. It's normal. As for us. Winning is the only answer to a superb class.

Going to be hard to flip a few if they aren't allowed to take visits to other schools per Hoke's rules for committed players.

In regards to everyone getting their panties in a bunch, I'm with OMM on this one. We are on par with ND recruiting. There is always going to be some other team that comes out of the gate fast and we are going to look at them with jealousy and want. Why would you be jealous of UM? We are ND and we are in serious contention with a whole bunch of very solid and highly ranked recruits. Over the next 11 MONTHS, a lot can happen.

And remember, if UM fills up it's class by summer (like they are on pace to do), they won't be in contention for the 4-5* recruits that wait until NSD, giving us the leg up on out annual UM v ND battles.

adding coombs in cbus only solidifies there staffs elite bunch of recruiters...he did a great job and again was a coach kelly guy in cincy. really interested if he was offered a position at ND when Martin moved to OC. he would have really helped our recruiting in ohio imo.

I was checking out a OSU forum to see what they thought of Jaylon Smith and apparently Michigan commit Dymonte Thomas may visit OSU.

Lets see what happens with that this year. It will be tested at some point.

We didn't get a bunch of recruits just because Kelly signed up. We didn't lose any, but there certainly wasn't the same buzz.

To his defense, he didn't have any national championships under his belt, he came from Cincinnati, and only had 3 stellar seasons at Cinci (I know that was his whole tenure there). As opposed to Urban, who came from Florida, has a few recent NCs and has a track record of 6 seasons of success at a top tier, SEC school. That might be why Urban had such a buzz and Kelly's wasn't as much.

Also, Tim Tebow.

Kelly started recruiting with 1 month left in the cycle. Tough task for anybody. Meyer is a Star, which is why we he was able to flip so many... It didn't happen at Michigan either. Usually, it's after the first full cycle of recruiting. It happened to us in the 2011 class.

It makes you wonder how OSU closes the deal with Urban Meyer(with sanctions looming), Alabama gets Nick Saban while Notre Dame has to settle for guys like Kelly from Cincinatti, Charlie Weis or Tyrone Willingham?

Ty and Weiss were settling, but I really don't think Kelly was settling. He is an outstanding coach, he just hadn't had the BCS caliber jobs pre-ND.

At CMU, he took a team that had no more than 3 wins in the previous 4 seasons to the 9 wins, a MAC championship and a Motor City Bowl game after only 3 seasons.

Then at Cincinnati, he took a team with very limited success, if any at all, to a 10 win season in his first year, a Big East championship and BCS bowl his second year, and an undefeated season and top 3 finish his 3rd year. All of that was with limited talent and significantly worse recruiting classes than he has here at ND.

All in all, I really think Kelly is one of the big boys and we didn't settle for him. Only time will tell, but I foresee great things to come from ND in the next decade with Coach Kelly at the helm.

Edit: After re-reading, I suppose Cinci could be considered a BCS caliber team when he was there, and I suppose technically, they always are due to the Big East. But, if not for BK, they wouldn't have been anything.

Urban Meyer's "methods" wouldn't fly at Notre Dame and that is why the interest lacked, mutually. Urban may have once dreamt of coaching at ND but I'm sure that dream died along side his dream of being ethical.

Brian Kelly was and is the best choice for re-building this program the right way.

Totally agree with this. So many Irish fans have become languished by 20 years of mediocrity that they think this can be transformed nationwide overnight and when it isn't, the coach needs to be fired. Charlie had his chance but blew it. Kelly is far more experienced in re-building a program and I still believe he is getting the ship pointed in that direction.

I know its been tough and frustrating, but people need a bit more patience.
