If someone could start a new thread about recruiting missed or lack of offer.

Example, Luke Kuechly supposedly wanted to be Irish but did not get an offer-now a top 15 pick that blew up the combine and goes to NFL after junior year??? WTF- How did we miss that? Anybody from Ohio know the story???? What a miss in our Notre Dames back yard!

I am not sure how to start a new thread

Not from Ohio but found this quote from his H.S. football coach.

"Luke Kuechly would have ended the recruiting process before it ever began if Notre Dame would have offered him," St. Xavier coach Steve Specht said in a 2010 interview with the South Bend Tribune. "But they didn't."

I agree. Sure, he does get paid millions to do it. But it's also exciting to see where it goes for the program, right? Or what else are we doing as fans if we don't get excited?

Yeah, we're both here on this site; we obviously care a lot about ND football and want a championship as soon as possible.

I'm not worried ND is always a slow starter

Yeah I agree, usually the spring game is our momentum starter for the year... I have a feeling that we'll have a couple of commits before then too just to help. Not worried either, yet.

Stephon Tuitt and Aaron Lynch say hello

Oh, and George Atkinson does too

3 players..? again, my point is the sample size is too small and the time period is too short to praise or criticize.. I'm going to give it a couple more years until I form an opinion, as for now I'm neutral on the staff.. that's not good enough?

I think that this is at least marginally applicable to this thread:

I just looked at Michigan's O-Line situation. It is obvious to me why Hoke has had success there. The previous two seasons were horror shows for O-Line recruiting there in apparently both numbers and quality. He could use that effectively, and honestly, to pull the Big Boys in. But he got four last year and already five this year. He seems to be holding out hope for Tunsil as well. 9+ in two back-to-back years was necessary for him but is at the point now of overbalance if he keeps on. [He also has four TEs in these two years --- it's obvious that smashmouth is in the future].

The point is, of course, that some of our O-Line targets are/were also Michigan's. That probably shouldn't be true anymore with the ones that are left. And those players may have even received a pull-back message. [That is pure speculation just on the numbers]. The O-Line people we've offered are by the way, WAY up there in the ratings on 247.[#s 9, 10, 14, 26, along with Elmer's #5]. So Kelly is shooting high. #s 4[Gray], 8[Latham], and 51[Voeller] have interest in ND but apparently no offer yet. Kelly/Hiestand must have some confidence in their positions with those they have offered if they haven't even offered some of those other guys yet.

Talking about Luke Kuechly, almost everybody had him as a MAC linebacker. Almost everybody was wrong, (including Jon Tenuta.)

The conversation to have is, "Does the Kelly staff find these kind of players and offer them based upon a process they have developed. Granted Luke is the most dramatic example of a sleeper in years, but I am more interested in how the Councells, Turners, CJProsises, etc develop. Even with accolades, no one expected Troy Niklas to have the influence he did as a freshman. I want to see how this staff develops the tallent they pick, the ones that aren't everybody's five stars.

You know Tenuta is an easy target, because he had the special tallent of being able to rub everybody, and anybody, the wrong way. I have a hard time believing some of the quotes attributed to him, but still he had no ability to fit into the team he was hired to work as part of at ND.

+1. I agree, and I think that Kelly has a track record of getting these players and developing them to good success.

Go back and look at your quote that I used.

3 players? Yes. 3 of Kelly's freshman? Abso-****ing-lutely!

One had 2 kickoff returns for TD's (when's the last time that happened in a year?)

One led the team in sacks.... As a true freshman..... Was a freshman all American as well

No offense, but Lynch made first team, Tuitt is a freshman all Amercian, too, just not first team, and that was for seven or eight games! Lynch missed two or three? Give me a break? When was the last time ND had that kind of (freshman) talent on the d-line? '73. The time before that? '46. Get real haters! Go NDinFl and ChiRish!

fair enough.. I forgot the word consistent.. there's just not enough proof/evidence to suggest those aren't flashes in a pan.. I'm not saying they are, I don't believe they are, but I just want to give it some more time.. everything is so rushed these days.. I say let the dude coach a couple more seasons then we can revisit the conversation, too early to praise him and too early to write him off.. I'm letting him be

I can totally agree with that.

Consistency is key, and if we can pull off a top 10 class this year, all the while keep developing players, I'll smile from ear to ear.

I also agree that we shouldn't do the ESPN "I want instant results" stuff with BK, give Hume time and he'll make Swarbrick and the rest of us happy

FU SEC

Notre Dame vs Navy will be broadcasted on CBS not NBC.

Didn't want to make a single thread for this. Just a simple statement in a heavy traffic thread for everyone to see.

exactly.. I cannot and will not instantly crown someone like ESPN crowned Tebow or Lin or how LeBron James crowned himself.. I can't stand that stuff lol

Why is Notre Dame not on NBC for that game? Does the SEC have some sort of deal with NBC now?

Its a "home" game for Navy, which are always broadcast on CBS. Not a big deal.

My gut (out of left field) is saying Ty Isaac or Jaylon Smith. If we can't pull Jaylon Smith at some point this year, there is something very very wrong....

less than 1% chance of that happening.

Jaylon has strong interest in ND but he's most likely not committing for a good long time and it wouldn't surprise me if he waits to NSD.

As for Ty Isaac, ND has been slipping with him for some time now and a good visit is needed just to stay in the contention for him. scUM leads for him and they've already got an awesome OL and QB in this class to help convince him that Ann Arbor is the best place for him.

ND doesn't have those advantages at the moment and it also doesn't help that he's believing most likely what UM is telling him in that a big back like himself isn't a correct fit for a spread offense but that it is for the traditional pro offense that he's going to run.

Yeah, but now he has an extra week to get the names right. That won't be nearly as funny come week 2.

Nobody "leads" for Isaac right now. He could just as easily end up at USC as Michigan.

Regarding the beat down for saying Smith and Isaac.....
Stranger things have happened. I can see the emotion taking over for Smith who's a local Catholic product, who by the way wants to get out from under Big-Bro's shadow at Ohio State. I also read somewhere that Isaac pulled from NW but indicated academics were critical to his decision. I also don't buy into the strong lean to $cUM.... Not saying either is likely, but it's just a gut feel which at this time is as good as guess as any IMHO. A guy can dream with both visiting this weekend.....
