IMO its us and scUM right now.

USC is recruiting him hard and he has told them he will visit unofficially on his own dime for one of their Trojan functions. So supposedly he will give several schools some serious looks...

he communicates with big lou quite a bit on twitter (i don't follow ty, just see lou mentioning him in tweets). Lou seems like a cool *** dude and i bet the staff has recruits hang out with him on the regular

Need this UM momentum to stop. For real. Any chance that we get the Joliet Catholic pipeline up and running here? I seriously hope that Hoke tanks Michigan this year to put a little water on the "revitalizing the program" fire.

I think it will be difficult to beat U of M out for him; we had the third, maybe second OL class for 2012 (Stanford obviously 1, and IMO USC probably 2), and look to do the same this year. Can't imagine a RB not wanting to run behind that. WR is the position I think we're going to struggle with, unless Gardner gets the opportunity to prove he'll be a solid QB.

This is gonna be the #1 theme this year if we want to sustain success and that is to win.

Just win.

I could not agree more. I am guessing the Michigan game will be to recruiting what the USC game was to last year with a ton of recruits visiting for that weekend which would probably include Isaac, Pocic and a bunch of these midwest kids the Irish will be competing against them for. Not letting them escape with a victory (like they have the last few seasons) will be a huge key to recruiting success for next season in my opinion. It's time to finally put to bed the nightmare that is Denard Robinson.

You nailed it on the head...We have got to win period! Too many times over the last several years we have not won the games we should. Last year alone we gave away a few games due to penalties and turnovers. Once we tighten the ship and win with more consistency then more recruits will come our way.

Michigan is trying desperately to get him to commit early because basically they can only take one RB and they want him to be it. He has said he wants to take other visits though before he narrows down his choices.

Also, USC's depth chart at RB scares me on this one and it is the main reason he is taking an unofficial to visit there. Early PT is something he is definitely looking for.

Brady Hoke took the same tact last year with guys and it worked out well (pressuring to commit early). The only person it didn't work with was Armani Reeves who got ticked at the pressure and dropped Michigan before later adding them back and eventually picking OSU.

This is a similar tact to what Charlie Weis used... and it failed miserably when we started losing. Let's hope Michigan starts losing.

Michigan has a pretty manageable schedule, I really only see 3 probable loses. (Us being one of course!)

imo the worst possible thing would be for ann arbor to pop bama in the opener. if that were to happen this recruiting momentum will look minor league.

I think I remember something about him wanting to commit early and get the situation over with, but I may be wrong. And I still think with his desire for early PT that ND can still come out on top regardless if we have Mahone, Russell, and Carlisle. If I remember correctly, Isaac is a bigger back, one who combines power and speed. It makes him more akin to the role of a feature back, whereas you could see Mahone in power situations and Russell in the slot. Maybe I'm grasping for straws here, but I hope he doesn't see the depth chart and stay away.

And really, I hope that Michigan loses some this year. Hoke is doing what every coach does when they take over a struggling program - they pitch that the kids can come play right away and turn it around. I was at Illinois when Ron Zook took over and he did the exact same thing, bringing in players like Juice Williams, Martez Wilson, and Arrelious Benn. But when the coaching didn't match up and Illinois fell off, the recruits don't care anymore. I hope something similar happens at UM. And I think we need to rely on defenses containing Robinson through the air.

And I wonder if Isaac is going to want to go all the way out to Cali. He goes to Joliet Catholic, a school that feeds a lot of kids into ND (including Rudy, of course). I hope that Kelly is milking this connection, and I'm pretty sure that Isaac has made several trips to ND on his own dime.

The point here is I think we could be pitching to Isaac the fact that we're going to have studs all over the offense, and a solid quarterback, whoever it is, to provide balance for the offense. I'm sure I'm rambling here, but I still like our chances to fight off Hoke and Kiffin.

USC recruited Nelson to play RB last year. Their depth chart is not what it used to be but there is some serious speed and talent there. Should be interesting to see their RB rotation this year.

Not surprised.

Great. And some of those elite prospects are from Illinois. Damn you Michigan, damn you. Well, I'm sure the staff is already doing all they can, but who knows where we stand. Gotta have a great time on the campus.

the thing on our side here is scUM/hoke doesnt allow his commits to visit any other schools and Isaac seems to what to take his visits....and after some loses this year so will some of their other early verbals.

On the II podcast I just listened to they said that there is concern around ND that they aren't as high on Isaac's list as they once thought. They also said that he may have concerns about being a 6'3" back in a spread offense.

Good lord i want him....may be a big back in the spread but his talent would work in ANY system imo

... and thus make him ideal for Michigan's offense. Something tells me though that we could find a place for the stud. Hopefully we get some things sorted out with his visit.

The spread can be very different from program to program so one rule doesn't apply to all.

ND so far has played more of a hybrid pro/spread offense as they haven't had the right personnel in the system to really spread teams out.

A regular big back might not have a regular spot in what most spread offenses are trying to accomplish but Ty isn't that as he's a special, a really special RB who has all the attributes of what spread teams want/need just in a bigger package.

He's a big RB but he's much more than a "Big Back", think the Rams Steven Jackson who has the size, speed and quickness to play in any system and thrive.
