didnt he make a music video already with Notre Dame players? If anything, he might be mad that he was told to take it down by someone on the stuff. I thought it was fine, but with the recent Yuri Wright stuff, Notre Dame was probably feeling the pressure to be "consistent."

USC fan = joke

Yeah, with the Atkinsons. I've read that Carlisle and the Atkinsons are good friends from before ND, although I'm not sure exactly how they knew each other. More reason to doubt that he is unhappy at ND; not like he doesn't know anybody.

Without me reading this entire thread, what is the status of Amir being able to play next season. Wasn't he appealing having to sit out for a season? Has this been resolved?

There's nothing to appeal. He must sit out a year. He will have 3 years of eligibility starting in 2013

It seems like a pretty clear cut situation for him to sit in '12. This is the first that I have heard regarding an appeal, and frankly, I cant imagine him winning one.

Anybody?

Looks to me like a cut & dried transfer.

^This. If by any chance faithfulfan is referring to the waiver that allowed USC players to transfer out without having to sit out a year, I believe that expired after 2010.

Here's an expert from a 2010 article on ESPN:

Juniors and seniors to-be will be allowed to transfer to other FBS programs without having to sit out a season after the program was hit with a two-year postseason ban among other punishments, the NCAA clarified to ESPN on Friday.

"The second school would have to submit a waiver asking to waive the year in residence, but NCAA rules allow for this waiver to be granted if a student-athlete's first school has a postseason ban in their sport," NCAA spokeswoman Stacey Osburn said in an e-mail to ESPN's Joe Schad.

The rule does not apply to freshmen who have signed national letters of intent, however. But schools with an interest in a USC junior or senior are allowed to initiate contact with the player, Osburn said.

I read somewhere, possibly in south bend tribune, that there was a chance he could apply for some type of appeal, due to his family moving and that he may not have to sit out. I agree, when I read that, it doesn't seem likely. Just hadn't heard anything since then.

I'll see if I can find the story. (might have been in Eric Hanson chat).

Edit: It was in the Eric Hanson chat on southbendtribune.com

I found it in Eric Hansen's weekly chat from last week. It appears that it was just him speculating that he could apply for a hardship transfer and not have to sit out. But even he said he doesn't figure he would attempt it.

Sorry for that, lol.

...would he still have 3 years of eligibility left after he sits this year?

Its probably a good thing he gets to sit out...not sure how many credits ND would actually accept from USC..maybe he's ok if he did gen ed stuff...seems like a catch up year on the academic side of things as well...good thing he appears to be a great student...

There's no grounds for a hardship waiver. He father, Duane Carlisle changed jobs. He was a strength and conditioning coach for the 49ers when Amir chose USC. His new job is Director of Sports Performance for Purdue. The family has moved to Indiana and they (Amir and family) wanted to be nearby. That's a choice. A 6 figure income is NOT a hardship.

Yes.

He played in '11 for USC. Sits out '12. Has 3 years left to play.

Regardless of how many credits ND accepts, he'll have 3 years left and has to complete them by '15 which is his 5 year window. He was injured while playing this year but played, I believe, in 8 games so I don't see a basis for a medical hardship.

Anyone catch what Kelly said about him in the presser today. I missed it, I know he said Amir is on scholarship this year but that is all I caught. Thanks.

Any chance he applies for a harship waiver since his entire family moved from Cal to Indiana?

This is in response to me asking if Amir is applying for the waiver. At least we might know sooner rather then later.

TJamesISR Tyler James
@ryan_graham3 I've heard that, but it didn't come up today. I'll add that to our list for the next press availability.

Tyler James @TJamesISR

@ryan_graham3 Couldn't tell you, honestly. Not that familiar with those NCAA rulings. I'll start looking into it. (On the possibility of a waiver actually being granted due to the family moving.)

Per II, he's in the process of petitioning the NCAA for immediate eligibility.

Its rare to get this waver, all depends on the severity of the hardship. I don't recall why he xfered other than "family issue/need."

On what basis?

His family moving from the West Coast to Indiana was a huge drop in their cost of living. His father chanting, "Boiler Up!" in the shower every morning now may well be a source of embarassment but hardly a hardship. I think you need a novena thread.

How does the NCAA define hardship? For kids this age, distance from home is probably more weighted than income. Income can be made up for/manipulated by many factors, but being a thousand miles from home is a thousand miles from home no matter how much money you have.

Doesn't matter. NCAA is way stricter than that. Shoot, Josh Shaw is claiming to have transferred back to SoCal to be closer to his dying grandpa, and most USC fans and analysts highly doubt that he'll be granted a hardship.

So, unless there is something to the story that we don't know about that drastically changes things (could be), there is no way I can see the NCAA granting that request. Doesn't hurt to try though...

The NCAA has, to my knowledge (and definitely at the time up to and including Ryan Mallet's transfer), never granted a hardship based on our assumptions.

Like NDinL.A. said, unless there is something more to the story that we don't know-- he ain't getting a hardship.
