terrible move. oregon's offense is the definition of a college spread. don't expect him to have too much success there.

big difference between college football and the NFL. I think if Chip Kelly does head to the pros, he's gonna get a lot more pro style with his offense. He's said it himself that he'd change up his offense to his personnel

And there's a big difference between the Atlantic 10 (D-IAA New Hampshire was in the Atlantic 10 when Kelly was there, but has since moved to the Colonial Athletic Conference) and the PAC-10. He made that transition rather well. It's no guarantee that he could make the transition to the NFL, but I would submit that past history favors him being at least moderately successful, as opposed to being a huge mistake.

This is the opposite of a Jim Harbaugh type hire IMO. Maybe it will work, maybe it will not. Good luck to Chip either way.

He'd be good IF they could get him. A great defensive mind. RT @AdamJude_RG: We're alsohearing Ducks will target TCU's Gary Patterson.

Leaving for the NFL is more admirable than faking a health issue.

I disagree. In college, especially when it comes down to lower division football, you go up against less talented players, but you also HAVE less talented players. The field is mostly even. His offense worked at a lower level and when he moved, it worked again, but because he also got better athletes to work with. It's not like he made his offense work against D1 talent while only having D 2 talent himself. The change between college football conferences and/or divisions is marginal compared to the change between amateur athletics and professional football.

Oh wow! You think Urban Meyer faked it? That hadn't crossed my mind.

Chip Kelly has been a defensive coach as well as an offensive coach, so he has plenty of experience. He didn't always run the offense he runs now, he adjusted his offense because he saw the way the college game was opening up and where it was headed. I think this shows that he is a innovative and willing to do what it takes to win football games. He could be a good hire. He may not be. It's too early to tell, but I think he'll have to change his offense up for the pros. By the way, nobody knows that he's bringing the Oregon offense with him to Tampa

Again............ you're making the giant leap that Kelly can only run one type of offense, and will have to try to make it work in the NFL.

Bad move for TB if true. But perhaps he is doing the Sneaky Pete Carrol and bolting before the heat comes down. If Kelly takes the job, look for NCAA probes in the next 6-12 months.

The references to potential sanctions could explain one side of this. A desperate organization could explain the other.

You nailed it! No body wants the TB job! The organization is hard to work for, but I hated Morris as the coach.

? oh, misunderstanding my man ahaha I actually posted earlier in this thread that I thought Kelly would change up his offense for the NFL. I thought you were trying to argue that Kelly's offense would work in the NFL which I don't think it would. Kelly is a good coach, but we've seen many good college coaches fizzle out in the pro's.

I think the spread would work as well as the WCO basically the only major difference is you take more shots down field in the spread.
There's a reason Cunningham and Young are the all time leading rushing QB's still.

Because Michael Vick spent a few years in prison?

I'm not saying that Kelly's offense will work in the NFL, but neither am I willing to rule it out. Everyone thought the Dolphins were crazy, when they started running the Wildcat. They made it work, and not just as a "once in a while" gimmick. Kelly's offense is run heavy, not trickeration heavy. If he can make some tweaks here and there, I'm certain that he could have some success with it, even if only on a limited basis. But the guy is smart. I'm sure that he could probably successfully coach a number of different offenses.

Vick has spent a lot of time injured as well.
That probably helps.
But the guy is an athletic freak who also looked to run if his first read wasn't there.
Young and Cunningham ran the WCO.
They just also happened to be pretty good athletes as well.
Tarkenton and Elway round out the top 5 for S&G's.
Good example is to look at Denver with Tebow IMO.
Good point and I think if Denver went to the WCO with their slants and crossing routes and let Tebow make quick reads he would actually look like a pretty decent QB instead of one who chucks it up and prays like Robinson.
