I think its going to be really tough for Pitt and Boise St. to impress him enough to take us off the top of his list. Yesterday was just the perfect day for recruits to come in, mainly because of the big basketball game.

As long as he can take a spanish class online I think he is Irish

Quote from mom in the 247 article: "I don’t know what more you could say about Notre Dame. Notre Dame is Notre Dame. It’s definitely in a league of its own.” Love hearing that considering he's a former Michigan commit.

I would take this kid in a heart beat. Still going hard after Poole. Plus it increases are chances with Treadwell.

Irish Illustrated reports that if Standifer can complete his online Spanish class by signing day he will sign with Notre Dame.

"Everything went great," Standifer said. "I just have one red flag. I don't have two years of Spanish, so I will have to take an online Spanish class and get approved (by) admissions."

"I think I will get approved and sign on signing day to ND," Standifer said.

Not trying to be a d*ck, but I think all of this has been covered a couple pages back.

Online Spanish class in 8 days? While visiting other schools? I don't understand but I hope it works out. I like Standifer a lot ... see a lot of RJ in him

Can you do an online course in a week and a half?

No. But it can be approved by ND admissions prior to signing day. With the understanding, the student must complete and obtain a satisfactory grade by semesters end prior to admission in the fall I'm guessing.

So should we call him a Notre Dame verbal?

Basically every student has academic requirements left to fulfill when they make their commitment.

Yeah technically this makes him a verbal if he says he's going to sign with ND pending a class.

The rigor of online classes varies wildly from provider to provider... you'd be surprised at how quickly some of these classes can be completed. 8 days is awfully ambitious, but I doubt it'll take a full semester if he invests a decent amount of work.

I know alot of people don't seem crazy about him but he is on the higher end of the 3* ratings.

This is what Daly said about Standifer:

"I know the coaching staff really likes him and he seemed to enjoy his visit," he said. "I think he's going to take his time and think things over, but I think we have a great shot. He’d be a nice addition to the class.”

If by some miracle of God we land Poole and Darby, do we still take Standifer? Or is he a backup plan.
I thought we were looking to take two more corners. Would we possibly take all three?

We've only got 4-5 spaces left. Darby, Poole, and Standifer would bring us up to ideal CB depth, but I doubt the staff would dedicate that many of our dwindling available scholarships to one position. It's a fairy tale anyway, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Whiskeyjack, would you mind ranking the three as who you think is most likely to go Irish? I'm thinking we will sway Poole and get Standifer, but I have no idea whats going on with Darby.

Standifer - Poole - Darby (upcoming in-home could bring him back, but I doubt it - he's been looking all year)

Sadly, none of these guys is a lock. Standifer's lack of a language class could cause admissions to block him, Poole is probably a coin flip (at best), and Darby's a long-shot (though I put nothing beyond our staff at this point). Missing on all three would really hurt. Getting two of these three would be arguably more important than any other single recruit on our board.

To the "can you be elite at CB without a good 40 time?)" the answer is a resounding yes. You just have to have great fluidity and technique and good strength/size. There are many examples of guys like Brandon Browner of the Seahawks who succeed in the NFL with worse than a 4.6 40. Joe Haden is another example of a guy who ran a 4.6 and was absolutely elite as it gets in college.

So it's a legitimate concern because guys with slow 40s who succeed at CB are a rarity. But it's certainly something that can be overcome depending on the other traits of the player.

This makes it sound like Tee's 4.6s 40-time coming out of high school is "slow". He's likely to shave at least .1s off that time before he'll be participating in an NFL combine, and a 4.5s 40-time is very solid for the NFL. Not elite obviously, but fast enough that he won't be knocked for his speed.
