No but what really gets me is they keep evaluating him as a DT while continuing to say his biggest upside is at OT. If that is the case then rate him as such. Is that not what they are doing with Armstead?
Agree. And we know that if he played D at ND he would be a DE and occasionally playing DT.

Everybody knows Jarron is just a sickly athletic big guy. Get him in the best shape possible for football and put him in a position to be great and we will be golden.

Right on cue, 247 dropped Armstead a little and changed his position to athlete.

Which is my very strong assumption. Diaco will want to see if he's a Tuitt Mark Two.

If we land Armstead, I think we can afford to have Jones on the O-side. However, I do think he could be potentially great on the D-side. Great problem to have.

Just give him the option: "JJ we recruited you for D-line, and that is where you are headed. But if you get curious, there is an opportunity on the O-line, and you have pro potential over there. Might want to give it a thought."

See where he wants to start out and reassess down the road. Most people just want a fair shake.

I am glad that they kept Chase but moved Brad. Big Tony is another option.

Lets start this monster both ways John Lattner style :) Seriously I would love to see him on DL. Our OL in fine and next years priority. You don't find DL's like this.

I don't care where he plays, I'm just glad we have this kind of problem. We have a lot of depth on the dline and it continues to grow. It's a good problem to have. I have said all along I see him moving to offensive line, even though staff told him dline, I just feel he will end up over on the oline. We will see.

Personally, you have to wonder with the level of D-Line talent that we are currently showing and with the possible additions of the Armstead brothers... does ND move to a 4-3?
We have one more year of Teo and I personally think he would shine at middle linebacker and if the Armsteads do commit, is there a front 4 anywhere in the nation with the depth that we will have??? I personally do not think so... If the Armstead brothers come, I think Diaco has to move to a 4-3 and put as much talent on the field as possible...

This staff has done nothing but stress consistency in message. What would it say switching defenses after two years.

I agree with your logic regarding getting talent on the field, but keep in mind too that the staff has targeted their recruiting cycles (this being their 2nd full, 3rd overall) towards the 3-4. So if they switch to a 4-3, their are going back to square one in a way, recruiting-wise. If the staff keeps recruiting like they currently are with 2011 and 2012 as positive indications they can recruit at a high level, then they can continue to seek out players that fit best in, and can replenish the 3-4 as players graduate. Getting talent on the field will then take care of itself.

NDomer2 - are you serious??? I hope not... that is like telling Hendrix or Golson that our QB wll not run the ball - because that is what we have done in the past year. If Diaco has decided that we are a 3-4 defense no matter how much talent we have at D-line and lack of talent at linebacker, well then your backward thinking works... I guess. But I was always under the impression that the number one objective was to win, not to "stress consistency" as you say... Maybe you and I defer on the end result - I do not care how the offense scores or how the defense stops - as long as we are winning - that is what counts!

Like Boiler said,

We're recruiting personnel for the 3-4

Change that to a 4-3 and our personnel doesn't fit quite right...
