Would it be inappropriate to send Les a Thank You Card? I mean honestly, if he didn't put on such a bad offensive display in the NC Game would this be happening?

I think kids make their college decisions based on many complicated components. I doubt the way a top 5 team played against one of the best defenses in the country had much impact on the decision.

Oh, it's not like our offensive performance in the decidedly-less-than-national-championship game was so stellar.

Any legit outlets reporting this? I haven't seen but maybe it's all in premium areas?

USAToday has an article up with quotes from the LSU Rivals guy. Seems to be the most substantiated of any of the reports/rumors that have been bandied about.

note: I can't post a link, it comes up in a google search though.

From what I've read, it wasn't so much the offensive performance in the title game as what lead to that terrible performance. A racially divided locker room, dissension within the coaching staff, etc.

It's difficult not to be biased here, but it's a totally legitimate reason to decommit. That kind of instability within the program is a huge red flag.

Because of poor QB play, not bad scheme and play calling the way LSU lost. That actually makes ND look even better for a top flight QB.

LSU premium sites have allegedly confirmed Kiel to ND.

I think it's simpleton thinking to assume that any one single event swayed Kiel's decision. I know as fans we like to think 1 good performance at a game makes all the difference, but it's usually much bigger than that. How did the team perform all season, what's their final AP ranking, how big is the stadium & fan base, how close is this team to home? I think those are the major factors that play a pivotal role.

He is not in the directory. However, neither is Arik, and we know that Arik already got accepted.

Someone can still be listed in the directory despite not officially attending. Arik's has a Cal student ID. Speculation is entertaining but I'm cautiously optimistic about Gunner.

My inside guy told me that Gunner flipped because he wants his "Irish Envy" thread to reach 5000 posts

Hahaha... this is the first time I've laughed aloud in this whole thread.

Thanks to DillonHall for walking over and confirming with the O'Neill RAs... until then I was doubtful. This is awesome!

Read it. And, honestly, it's not exactly heart warming, to me. "Kiel still wants to go to LSU but his mother got very emotional as he was preparing to leave on Monday"....not exactly what I wanted to hear. I would have preferred, Kiel just felt ND and his home state tugging at his heart strings and realized his commitment to LSU wasn't what he truly wanted.

Oh well. I need to see more than a USA Today quoting guys from Rivals before I thank God for this.

What happened at LSU? I haven't been on in a few days.

Meh. They're quoting an LSU source. He's not going to chalk it up to any failings within the program.

If this is true we need to send Momma Kiel to the Armstead house tonight and grab those two young men by the ear!

Anybody else get the feeling that even Kiel doesn't know *definitively* what he's going to do yet?

New guy here - probably one of the few LSU and Notre Dame fans.

The LSU dissension stories have apparently been debunked, but we won't know the fall out from that for a few more days.

As for Gunner de-committing, he only committed 3 or 4 weeks ago and already changed his mind. Maybe his mom was the reason or maybe the fact that he had changed his mind once before with Indiana, and felt he still hadn't made the right choice.

As for LSU, Metterberger looks good, and Little Stephen Rivers (6'7") could be good QB's, surely better than Jefferson and Lee and have been for most of the past 4 years.

Now to be honest, I wanted Kiel to sign with Notre Dame. They need a high profile QB and I thought he would do well. Plus Rivers is from our church parish and I am hoping he gets a shot to play for LSU.

Good luck to Gunner, the Irish and LSU.

Supposedly there was an altercation in the locker room before the NC game between some players and coaches. One of the players was rumored to be Hebert's son.

Nothing has been proven true tho.

I've been waiting since this story broke to start getting excited... and I'm still going to wait. Until Gunner is sitting in class at Notre Dame tomorrow (or whenever), I'm keeping calm.

It's funny. Part of me thinks these elite recruits are on top of the world, because, really, they can't go wrong no matter what they choose. Part of me can not imagine the kind of pressure they must feel. Glad I was just a slow and skinny slot receiver in high school and got to Notre Dame anyway.
