I disagree with Rocket and Mike here. He looked very small in the upper body last night. Aaron Taylor and Lemming both commented that he NEEDS to add upper body strength to his body during the broadcast.

Pretty generic comments from both of those guys, I'm sure. We're talking about a kid whose whole MO has been the big, strong, physical receiver---not just in this class---but nationally.

It'd kind of be like people saying Darby looked a little slow at a certain event.

He still looks plenty big to me. Unless he's really struggling physically out there, where does this basis that he needs to get stronger come from?

Does everyone know he's playing receiver, not linebacker?

Can you ever be too strong? I don't think so. Gaining strength is never a bad thing....getting too bulky is completely different.

I think people are saying that cause he got lit up a couple times.

Are people forgetting that he likes running over people himself? haha

I like the enthusiasm, but it's really not up to Mr Ferguson whether he redshirts or not.

This class also features Greenberry and Brown at receiver, and Russell may end up in the slot. Then you have to consider the Riddick/GA3 positional confusion heading into next year. Also, Eifert is back and so are a host of other young tight ends who will be looking to make an impact.

I disagree in a sense. If he comes in and blows the doors open and just kills it on the practice field and in the weightroom, then he absolutely has a say in whether he redshirts or not.

There is a spot for him - if he's good enough. He thinks he is, which is what you expect and hope he would think. Hopefully he is good enough to make a difference as a freshman...

I don't think he's claiming the decision itself is up to him.. He said he has no intention of RSing, which is exactly how he should approach it.

ND needs the swag this class seems to be bringing.

Recruiting is such a crapshoot and you really can't say with any certainty who will be better when they all step foot on campus. With a summer of conditioning and 7 on 7, along with better coaching than what they received in high school, a less heralded WR (or any player) could be better. Sometimes a guy is a low-ranked 3-star because they maybe didn't have great high school coaching or a good strength program. Also, they're still 17/18 years old and their bodies are still growing and maturing.

For example, in the Rivals WR class of 2008, the #91 ranked WR was 3-star Oklahoma State commit, Justin Blackmon. ND recruits from that class include #6 WR 5-star Michael Floyd, #25 4-star Deion Walker, and #51 3-star John Goodman. I don't think I really need to dissect and explain those rankings and how things turned out.

The point is, there really is no way to predict who will come in and start right away and who won't. Personally, I like seeing Ferguson's passion and desire to come in and contribute right away and hope he may be the next underrated recruit to come in and dominate.

There are always exceptions. However, on average, a five/four star has a much better chance of being drafted into the NFL than a three/two star. Of course, this doesn't always correlate to production in college, which is the most important measure of success from my point of view as an ND supporter.

There are so many more 2 and 3 star guys in the NFL simply because there are many more 2 and 3 star guys in college football than the 4 and 5 stars that we all drool over.

He was just moved to QB for his senior year of high school since he was the best athlete on the team and also has a strong arm. Also, his team had a solid receiving target in Tyler Eifert.

ah ok, i remember when jimmy left there was talk that he might switch to QB but then Nate Montana came along :S

FWIW (I know, not much), ESPN has him rated higher than Greenberry. Actually they have him as our highest-rated commit.

Either way, I want guys who want to play. Let the coaches sort out who gets to do it first.

The first sentence in ESPN's evaluation: "This kid possesses one of the best blends of speed, size and strength this class has to offer." Smartly or not, they have him as the highest rated recruit we've got.

This guy and Chris Brown are going to ball. Both under the radar studs. Super excited to see them play. I will bet they are going to make this class look really good in a few years.

Dont forget about Greenbury though, he has recently earned a couple 5* from various recruiting sites. this could be a solid WR class if both of these recruits are as good as people are telling us...
