Anybody know what may have happened with Darby and Kerry Cooks? On the II podcast they said Darby's conversation with Cooks at the UA game last week may have played a role in him decommiting.
It was reportedly a very short meeting. Speculation is that, in light of Darby's decision to visit Clemson a 2nd time, Cooks notified that ND wouldn't guarantee his spot in the class anymore, since it was clear that he's not really committed to us at all.
Darby was worth the time, and if there is a reasonable chance still is worth the time.
I would go as far to say even if there is a "slim" chance, he is worth the time.
Our entire staff is highly capable of reeling in kids across the board, so I say continue to court him balls-out until the bitter end.
Darby was worth the time, and if there is a reasonable chance still is worth the time. The staff is good at meeting with families and doubtless do not "mind" the effort for such a big talent. I don't view any of this as a real "ego" problem. I see this as a young man strongly [and wrongly] influenced by some of his peers. If he changes his perspective, comes to Notre Dame and graduates, he'll be able to walk down the road of life, and when any of his acquaintances in the future come up to him and ask "where'd you go to school?", and he answers: "I graduated from the University of Notre Dame", they will, almost always say:Wow. It has always happened to me. So much so that I have to slap myself to get my pride back into control thereafter.
Ronald is making a not-so-hot choice right now. It's a young person's type of choice. Maybe that will still change.
A recruit who says he's committed but continues to take visits is NOT committed. This should come as no surprise to anyone. Either you're committed or you're not. There's no in-between.
from what i've read we are in favor of his parents, which has proven to be very positive in the class. we need to have an in home with him. no phone calls/emails/whatever. sitting down with the parents in their home will give us the best chance to land him.

I'd like to hear what IrishInFL is hearing from Gene about Darby.Update from Warchant re: Bracy and Darby
I was just told that Marvin Bracy has a lot of make up work to finish and the FSU coaches actually prefer him to come down next week so he can help work on Andrus Peat, along with Jameis Winston helping him. Therefore Marvin will be at FSU on January 20th to help with the uncommitted guys.
Ronald Darby also confirmed via text that he will be at FSU this weekend. I'm also told that he plans to meet with all the FSU track coaches in getting a feel for that program. Apparently Marvin has been speaking with Darby every single day about FSU and has even given Darby the heads up about who to talk with on the visit for Track.
I'm not sure what the big argument is here. Darby seems to favor a school with a good track team, Cooks straight up told (in an indirect way) to stop bullshitting and confirm his pledge or he'll be left out. You throw those two things in a bowl with a bunch of kids in his ear about coming to their schools and you get this.
Would we benefit with him coming back to Notre Dame? yes
Will our class be a failure if he decides to go elsewhere? no
I never felt Darby would stick it out, and I think he used Notre Dame as an insurance policy. I will be highly suprised if he commits with the Irish.

I agree but it's 2012. These days it might be more impactful to have the coach send him a text message:
sup rd? bk here...thought i'd hit u up again about comin to ND, lets do this brah!

Has is been 100% confirmed this is what took place? You seem to be speaking in absolutes, and if there is even 1% speculation to this, it shouldn't be spread on a message board considering how apparent it has become that recruits do follow these things. If it has been confirmed that this is exactly what happened, then I somewhat agree with you, although not sure we were just used as an insurance policy. I mean think about...there is a reason most high school kids go through 10+ bfs/gfs in high school. At that age, your feelings, needs and wants change almost daily.
“I like Notre Dame, don’t get me wrong, I love it. But I’m a good track runner as well and Notre Dame is a football powerhouse, not really a track one.”
Mike Stoops is officially joining Oklahoma as co-defensive coordinator as soon as today
Excellent news...then again ND has to play a Mike stoops Defense for a second year in a row.@schadjoe:
Huge loss for FSU. Won't help their chances with Darby.
