Wish he could visit the school again to remember why he fell in love with the place in the first place.

Please give me one good reason why that was nonsense. It would be much appreciated

cuz shumate is clearly a safety prospect, maybe outside linebacker.

darby is a corner

shumate won't play corner in college imo

that's what we're saying

Yeah... it's real interesting to me that they have been recruiting HARD (read: negative recruiting ND) and then this happens. I mean, the whole situation right now is just a bit odd considering the reasons he gave for committing to ND and the reasons he gave for now decommitting.

Interested to see how this plays out.

I didn't see those. What were they?

How do you go from being committed to ND from being decommitted with ND out of the mix? Something's gotta be up

Thanks bro. Thats all I wanted.

Sorry to HCTI for being an ***. We should all calm down. The sun will come up tomrrow and it will be a new day. We cant control any of this and all we can do is trust the staff.

Dont get mad at things you cant control

I'm saying if he purposely waited to get to the quiet period, then he doesn't have the character I would want in a player. He should have man'd up instead of hiding. I'm not saying this is all true, but Nelson's tweet supports. Sounds like he's known for a while, but has kept it quiet. Who knows how long he's known. And during that time, we don't have the benfit of recruiting others heavy as if we have that spot open.

Just saying...

And before you pound.... Darby was my favoritie recruit. I think he would have been the best out of this class in both the DB, and special teams. So not better off talent wise, but better off as a team....

And neither does anyone else. They can't recruit him or any other player, as we can't. If I was in his position, or in his circle, I would fully support his timing of his decision. Look at the age of these young men and someone who has the attention he has nationally, he hasn't abused the spotlight. The timing of this is perfect for him or anyone in his position. It allows him to have time to think and evaluate his future with his family without any outside influences. I may be an idiot, but not a bad timing decision at all, but a rather smart one. It isn't good for us, but better for him. And in the end his success in life and right to choose his path should be more important than ours as a team.

Guys, enough with the ill words towards Darby (especially making up sh!t about him being afraid of competition). Have some of you not learned a single thing about recruiting and how recruits and their families read these things, and how some recruits actually come back to the schools they decommitted from??? And were you saying these things about the players ND got from other schools? If not, then you need to kindly (redacted).

I just had to sit and erase a ton of b.s. posts. If you can't handle the ups and downs of recruiting without flipping out like scorned women and you start badmouthing recruits, you will be banned until after signing day, perhaps longer.

My take: This was not unexpected at all. It sucks. We needed his speed/ But oh well...like I said, this was expected. We have great days and bad days in recruiting. Hopefully he'll come back. But if not, hopefully we can go and get and Wright or another DB.

Here's the interesting things reading the quotes...

Comments often about still loving ND but getting a different feel from the coaches. Makes you go hmmmm. Also says he "doesn't want to put it all out there." I really have no idea what to make of all of that.

Second, it appears track factors in his decision and that's why a lot of the schools like LSU, FSU, etc. are in there... specifically says ND is not a track powerhouse. What is really funny, [and I say this as someone who was a better track athlete than lacrosse player and had more interest from schools to do that, is that it simply doesn't really matter where you go for track. There are some schools that have better tradition than others or famous coaches... and sometimes guys will make a decision on that... but especially if Ronald is truly a football first guy like he says he is it doesn't make much sense at all to choose a school for track. You are as fast as you make yourself and not a hundredth of a second faster.

Just a very odd and perplexing situation. We'll see what happens but I'm pretty sure by NSD we will have at least one of Neal, Wright or Darby.

The only thing that's certain at this point is that WE have no control over the situation. Everyone please avoid saying negative things about him (so far so good) because it can only hurt our chances. And I think a lot of us would appreciate the personal jabs being moved to pm

Edit see ndinla post above

I know it'd be a lot more work for you that you shouldn't have to do, but I'd be for a ban until after NSD for people that continually bash ANY recruit, especially one like Darby.

People really need to get a grip on themselves.

can't bash a kid for wanting to do what's best for him, which i truly believe he is trying to do. i don't think he used us a bit.

hopefully coaches come in and clear things over.

Sucks to lose a guy this late. Maybe he feels with All the dbs we're piling up he may get lost in the shuffle. Hopefully the coaches can get to him and reassure him that he's a very important piece to the future of this team.

Darby would have been, and still may be, a great addition to this team. Stop the ridiculous comments. He didn't "troll" ND. He didn't use use ND for an insurance policy. He fell in love with ND when he visited and committed. Let's just hope the staff reminds Darby why he committed in the first place. If after talking with our staff again, he decides to attend another college so be it. Notre Dame football will continue.

Yeah, I just read a bajillion premium articles with quotes from him and that synopsis is the aggregate takeways from it all.

I have no idea how to make heads or tails of the situation right now but the good news is we should be able to get some high 4:s:/5:s: talent in the spot he just vacated... so I'm very far from panic mode. There is absolutely no denying though that he was a BIG TIME recruit and would have been invaluable as a punt/kick returner on top of having incredible upside as a CB. He has recover speed like very few do.

thanks for the relay bra, appreciate it.

glad to hear we still have a chance, but interested to find out why he feels the staff seemed to cool on him?

ND is greater than all of the schools listed as new possibilities. If you haven't recognized that yet, you haven't been paying attention. I want nothing more than for him to be at ND and be happy.

Obviously ND is a much better school academically, but schools like U$C, Florida, and Michigan (although I don't think he is considering them) have top notch programs too. Better than ND in some areas.

If you are looking from a football standpoint, then you can't blame him for considering some of his other choices. ND hasn't been a premier football program in a long time. That is simply a fact.

I clearly think he is making a mistake and think ND is far superior to any big time football school... but different kids have different motives. And if he is making a choice that isn't based solely on 40 year ROI then you can't really fault him for it.

I'm no where near as pissed as when we lost Lynch last year. We still have Poole, Neal, and Wright on the board who are all top 10 corners.
