Per Sampson we still lead coming out of the Army Bowl with Michigan most likely out because they feel like they will flip Reeves from Michigan. Might not make the Cal visit so it looks like its down to Rutgers and Notre Dame with Notre Dame leading. So even if Darby leaves town Wright and Poole are still on board.

I have to wonder if Shumate jumping on baord with the possibility of Wright coming to made Darby nervous.

I see what you're saying, but given his highlights and his play in the UA game, he had potential starter written all over him for next fall (maybe not game 1 but certainly down the road). Not to mention KR and PR.

I agree but he has made mention of clemson a couple times. He might think that he can start from day one there where as here they couldn't make any promises.

FSU is the flavor of the week for him. Either way, Yuri, come on down.

I know that Yuri isn't that much like Darby However he still has the making to be pretty good. Not to mention get 2 players From Don Bosco and get the pipeline started for years to come.

I think Prosise is the future FS now. Yuri will be a big physical corner and will fill out his frame to around 210. Another possibility is that Jalen Brown steps in at the other corner spot and Yuri moves to FS

if yuri wanted to pledge to the irish he could have done so at any time; our staff is not slow playing him at all and never has; which is actually troubling now with the darby decommit; thats all for now; he is no lock for nd unfortunatley.

I mean, Yuri did mention how hard the staff was pushing for him. I don't think our guys were completely blindsided by the Darby decommitment.

Anyone who thought we should pass on this guy is crazy. *cough* HCTI *cough* ;)

I'd rather have Darby, but maybe if we get Yuri this will make us feel better...

Scout.com: Darby 5-star, #1 CB. Yuri Wright 4-star, #5 CB.

Rivals.com: Darby 4-star, #6 CB, Yuri Wright 4-star, #3 CB

247: Darby 4-star, 96 overall, #6 CB. Yuri Wright 4-star, 98 overall, #3 CB.

Espn: Darby 4-star, 81 overall. Wright 4-star, 82 overall.

Pretty damn similar by the major recruiting sites.

Here's Yuri's espn.com page. According to their ratings, he'd be our best recruit so far.

Darby's biggest asset is his speed. He is a cover corner who may or may not develop into a run stopper as well. While I want him back because of his speed and would not hesitate into welcoming back, he can be replaced. If Wright and/or Poole are to commit, it would probably set us up better in the long term then just Darby.

I am not saying this directed at you, because I like reading your posts. This is a post in general.

This whole comparison thing has to stop. Yuri and Darby are two completely different types of corners and players. Both bring things to the table that the other player can't. How good one player is versus another is based purely on preference and style. Both players are extremely talented and both have the luxury of choosing which high profile programs they want to consider.

Ranking at this point means nothing as both are elite CB prospects this year. As a program, landing one of these two is a significant step forward. Comparing ranking at this point as a way to soften the blow of losing Darby is just self consoling.

How do you know that?

No offense, but you don't and I don't either. All three guys you mentioned are great prospects and landing one of the three would be great for the program. But saying one is better than the other at this point isn't true.

Now, in three years we might know the answer, but we don't right now.

So I can't have my opinion about who I think is better based on reports I have read?

You certainly can have your opinion.

However, saying that landing poole or yuri could be better in the long term is really tough to forecast. At best, most of us have seen an all star game, a pretty small amount of film, maybe saw a game or two and read some recruiting reports. Trying ro project what a 17/18 year old will be four years from now in a system they have yet to play in is more of a guess than an opinion. That is my opinion.

BTW, like my other post, this isn't directed at you personally. It is towards our natural reaction, in general, to the situation.

Like I said, I'd rather have Darby. But as far as ratings go, if we end up gaining Yuri's commitment in lieu of losing Darby, we haven't lost much if at all. Consoling? Perhaps ;)

I, personally, believe that Wright is a better all-around cornerback. Darby has elite speed that we really, really need and is more of a cover corner. Nothing wrong with Darby at all. I really, really hope we do keep Darby because of his speed but from a football standpoint, I believe Wright is the better overall cornerback.

But wouldn't both of them be sweet...

Darby is an immediate impact player. His speed will allow him to develop his corner skills on the fly. Wright has a long frame, but he is very raw at corner.

Darby to Wright would not be an upgrade. Wright can be a strong CB or FS. He cannot start right away, but in 2 years, he can be an extremely solid, physical corner.

There are plenty of options on the board for one or two DB spots. Shumate's commitment allows the staff to focus on CB/Slot type athletes from here on out. Standifer, Wright, Redmond are all options at this point.

Safe to say Darby is gone.

Poole is going to be tough... Especially with the UA guys he played with this past weekend.

Alford would be pulling a miracle.
I think our chances go up if Howard becomes a Gator.
You are right, ND never has players in the UA and it screws us over every year. That game is really the SEC & Texas all star game.
