Maybe wearesc.com? Not sure as I've only gone there when NDinLA has linked to it.

Actually I just went there and that doesn't look like what I remember. I'll try to look around.

The basketball scholarship for Arik in 2012 can't happen without penalty and the cost is 2 years of eligibility. There are rules in place for such things because back in the day schools took advantage of this and more or less had dummy sports programs to get more scholarships for the football team.

In the eyes of NCAA football trumps all if your on scholarship and play football the scholarship will count against football whether you came to school on a soccer, baseball, basketball, hockey, track swimming or any other sport.

Why would they need to penalize you?

If you play basketball only in 2012, you are a basketball player and would not count against football scholarships. Are you saying that any later switch is always considered pretextual? That doesn't seem right?

On the other hand, if you practice with the FB team in 2012, and that makes you part of the football team, then the NCAA would just count your scholarship against football. If the school exceeds 85, there are already penalties in place.

It has changed, they were bought out by ESPN, or "merged" with ESPN, the site kinda sucks now.
I don't really know of any other SCum sites.

This is wrong. If he comes in on a basketball scholarship he will remain on a basketball scholarship until he plays in a football game. If he were to EE and join the basketball team and then sits out the 2012 football season (red shirt) he won't count against the 85 until he plays in 2013.

You sure about this? I seem to remember reading in a post BGIF wrote about this topic that once a student participated with the football team, that scholarship would move from hoops to football. Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems as if schools would gain an unfair advantage if they used this tactic with a player they had no intention of playing basketball, giving them the opportunity to redshirt, work out with the football team and be in a much better position to play their sophmore year without taking a schollie freshman year. Seems sketchy. Anyway, he's not likely to redshirt if he came here, so it's kind of a moot point.

Wearesc switched over to ESPN, changed their board format and made it really hard to register. People had to change their usernames as some of the usernames were deemed unacceptable while others had their usernames already taken. And then the board format was weird and the mods were nazis, so people started flocking to other sites - scout at first (but then they realized their free board was a friggin joke and nobody really wanted to talk about football), so they went to 24/7 (and some to rivals).

Maybe wearesc is back to being good again - I have no idea b/c I swiched to rivals. But man, what a clusterf**k that turned out to be. I was actually talking to one of their writers at the spring game when this was all going down, and he thought that everyone would stay with them after their initial fears were calmed. He was way off, as people went away in droves...

You have to think of it from the basketball point of view as well. Why would a good bball program like ND let some kid on their team, taking up a scholarhsip, practice reps and sitting on the bench for a year and half just to show up as a sophmore and be ready to play during football. Maybe at schools like Alabama where basketball doesn't mean anything compared to football it would make sense to be sketchy and use this rule but good luck getting a coach then.

Totally agree and I believe it was Bear Bryant that used to tuck football players away on basketball schollies to load up depth for football. This wouldn't fly at Duke and likely any school w a top notch hoop team (i.e. ND).

What do you want me to say that's what there rules are and have been for a long time now.

As I said it all has to do with coaches back in the day convincing the Universities to start up cheap costing sports at there school so they could get more scholarship players.

Coaches cheated and took advantage in the past and screwed over the few legitimate cases of prospects that would say choose let's say basketball as there primary sport but would walk on to the football team.

Football succeeds everyone because they were the biggest violators but basketball also has these restriction when a scholarship athlete from sports that are football and once again it was because of coaches cheating back in the day.

I am not trying to argue with you. You are the one who knows what he is talking about, I am just asking questions.

I am just wondering why you would need to penalize someone if there was already a provision that automatically counted the scholarship against the football team (or highest revenue sport) as soon as the kid starts practicing? At that point there is no gaming the system unless the school literally lies about the kid practicing with the team.

Its not about being the biggest violators. It comes down to the biggest money making program, in most cases is football.

That "clapping guy" is Orson Welles in Citizen Kane. Kind of a big deal. I think it was voted the greatest movie of all time.

Armond's options are NFL or ND at this point. Armond might visit ND next weekend. Texas may become a factor.

To add to that, it looks like the SEC is out b/c of their transfer rule and the Pac-10 is out b/c USC blocked Arik's transfer to any of those schools (how lovely of them!).

lol I was wondering who the 1st guy would be. I'll say this regarding Arik: I'm just thrilled that we actually have a pretty **** good chance to actually see this guy play in the gold and blue. No. 1 recruit, (from Scout I know, I know) going from a USC lock to a ND recruit with a possibility of his brother transferring shows much more flexibility roster-wise than what I'm used to seeing from ND. Really impressed with our recruiting and our admissions, who seem to be working as hard as our recruiters.

Coaches from ND and Cal will meet with Arik after the game tomorrow. The interest in ND is real.

He and his brother aren't a package deal per se, but if Armond were to transfer in, it would be a shock if Arik didn't join him.

#1 recruit on 247 also. #15 on ESPN... and... wait for it.... #29 on Rivals. Further proving how awful that site has gotten.

FWIW, wouldn't it have been freaking great if he had made it to South Bend this weekend after all? It was like 55 degrees today! In January!

So many people on II were saying he was on campus but this update from Christian seems to put that rumor to rest. Two team race. Going to be tough beating out Cal unless we land Armond... but man, we're right in it. If somehow Shaq and Jordan don't announce for Cal tomorrow..........

I'll also add that Armond had wanted to visit South Bend this weekend but he had to stay and get his paperwork/transcripts in order first which has been done.

There was a list of 5 schools given to Southern Cal that Armond was interested in. 2 of them were PAC12 and another was ND, and Southern Cal said no. A phone call was made to Southern Cal (no clue who it was, what was said, or how it happened) and they ended up clearing Notre Dame.

I see what you're saying, but I'm willing to wait until the final rankings to issue judgment.

Nothing really. Arik is at the Army game practicing, Armond was getting his paperwork together for a possible visit.

Very interesting that they would allow him to transfer to ND. That must have been a very powerful person making that call.

Only reason Rivals knocks him is because of the DE cause thats what he wants to play. Be at top 1-3 guy if we wanted to play OL

No inside info: I'd say its less likely some powerful-shadow figure and more likely an ND attorney. Sounds like USC was overstepping the "contract" between them and Armond, Armond talks to ND, ND then has an attorney call USC admissions and subtly threaten legal action on behalf of Armond. Like I said, could be that some really high up guy called, but it's more likely that a simple in-house counsel or law school alum made the call to clear things up.

Edit: Keep in mind future law school student here so maybe I'm just imagining the pride I would feel making that phone call. But like I said, that's usually how these things are done.
