Apparently in an article on the 24/7 board about the reactions of Irish recruits to the game, one of them made the comment "We need a quarterback "

I do not know who it was as it is VIP, and I am doing this from new mobile device and haven't figured out how to cut/paste links on this thing yet.

Anyone with a membership there see who said it?

He obviously also has seen enough of TR !!!

Hopefully it wasn't one of the stud WRs... On a purely football level I would be seriously questioning my decision if I was a WR commit with the QB play I saw this year.

Baratti said it.

I still have no idea what to make of that game. I don't know if it was bad coaching/play calling in the 4th quarter that lost us the game... or if more simply it was our players making mistakes. Missed field goal, dropped long ball by Floyd, the interceptions, etc. I mean you can't "coach" a guy to make a field goal or catch the ball. And I think our offense completely stalling after the first drive of the 2nd half was more because of the Floyd injury than anything else.

After this season by Ruffer I can't wait for Nick Tausch who has 2 years left and was a Groza semifinalist as a frosh. His inaccuracy this year cost us at least 2 games.

Need a lot more than that.

Do we though? What else do you consider positions of need? I think we need WRs and corners (both are coming in next year)... and elevated QB play... what else?

has to be very very embarrassing for the 2012 recruits to see ND lose like they did last night. They are pinning their whole identity on ND and it must be very hard for them to take in. Especially those kids who live in SEC land and those who turned down some big offers. I cant blame them for getting frustrated like Baratti did.

Think Baratti was implying himself for that spot?

I was going to say the exact same thing. I think with even an above avg QB the Irish win 10 games this season. Sure the defense could be better but if ND could ever put points on the board the few mistakes wouldn't be magnified.

The only other thing I'll add is I'd like to see another Robert Hughes/Jonas Gray "fat back" bruising through the line. Watching Cierre go down on arm tackles and getting bulldozed by their DB's a couple times makes me miss those guys.

yeah we are really relying on Cam Roberson or Will Mahone to fill this role next year..makes me a bit nervous tbh!

No, not at all. In fact he followed that quote up saying he's playing safety.

Let's all just PRAY this recruiting class holds together and if it does it'll be go time for Everett Golson.

I had this feeling after the first two games of the season. Hopefully recruits can tell how close ND is to being great. I mean there were a few times where Lynch, Nix and Tuitt were all in the game at the same time yesterday. Can you imagine what the future holds for those kids?

I noticed Hounsell had a good few reps in the 3rd quarter too. Didnt see much of Niklas at all though.

You know, I realize this is a huuggggeeee assumption, however, I was watching the Baylor game last night as well as Golson's senior highlights, and what Baylor looked like offensively is what I picture ND looking like in a few years with Golson at the helm. I know comparing Golson to RGIII is a big stretch right now, but I could see it. Especially in terms of offensive tempo, escapability, pass first but able to run, etc.

A missed field goal and three bad INT's are not the coaches fault. Those were some badly thrown balls. It would have been 4 if Floyd isn't being Floyd in the end zone.

Two picks were in the end zone which is at the VERY, VERY least 6 points (two field goals). Another pick setup FSU in terrific field position and then add the missed field goal. I'll even give Ruffer the benefit of the doubt on this one as it was a 48 yarder from the left hash. Well within his career long of 52 but still a tough kick.

Even on one of the balls that Rees tried throwing away a defender got his hands on it.

completely disagree...when it happens all season it turns out to be the coaches fault. i'll give you one time maybe two, but when the same things happen at the same positions all season that is a direct effect of coaching and that's all that needs to be said about that.

^this.
We hold together and go hard after a few that seem to be leaning NDs way (Shumate,Fuller, etc) and I will be excited for the future.
If we start losing commits, specifically at DB and WR, next year is going to be rough.

I suppose we will just agree to disagree. I don't know how it can be the coaches fault after the same mistakes are made all season. What else is he supposed to say to the kid?

How is it the staff's fault? It's clearly a personnel problem. The coaches control personnel through recruiting, so if personnel is still an issue in 2013-2014, then you can make that case, but the vast majority of our starters are still Weis recruits.

None of us can really know for certain at this point whether Golson is the answer at QB, but we do know that Rees and probably Hendrix aren't the answers. So IMO we don't have any choice but to give Golson the keys in the spring and hope he's capable of getting it done. He will definitely have ups and downs as he grows into the position, and I'm totally ok with giving him a long leash and living with some freshman mistakes, because him figuring it out is the only way we're going to be a legit contender any time soon. If it takes until 2013 for him to get it figured out, so be it.

I listened to a sound bite from Coach Kelly and he said that if a recruit doesn't commit because of a bowl lose then they probably didn't have a real shot at them anyways. I agree with that statement a great deal. How many times have you seen a really good team become poor the following season or vice versa? and the recruits still come. Fact is we have real potential we are just missing the key piece we need consistent QB play. For any of the "skill" guys wavering "WR." we should just send them Golson's highlights.

I've been saying that all year. We are running a spread offense at half the speed because of the lack of personnel. Our defense has zero depth in the secondary although it was nice to see Bennett Jackson in the game to get reps. Lest we forget, Jackson came here as a WR and this was his first year at CB.

If we look back, let's say exactly one year, what was the attitude? Most everyone thought things were heading the right direction. We had a nice win streak and a great bowl win over Miami. The only question was which of the awesome qbs would start.

Now many think the future is all gray sky, we have no quality qb, and recruits will leave because we lost a bowl game to FSU.

I'm hoping that as a collective group we are as stupid and wrong next year as we were this year.

I doubt the Sun Bowl had much impact on Lynch, Tuitt, or many other recruits last year; and hopefully this year's bowl doesn't either. I'm very disappointed in the team and staff; but next year is a new year and by August I'm sure I'll be as optimistic and pumped up as I was this year.

Well Lax, it definitely wasn't good coaching....
