As a fan, I want people at ND who want to be at ND. Gunner Kiel doesn't want to be at ND. With that in mind it's best that he not be at ND and we stop thinking about him.

Sure Kelly feels the same way. Plenty of sure thing quarterbacks have fallen by the wayside before, especially in the SEC. Kiel may or may not. I don't care now. I think Kelly is doing a great job and you're going to lose some recruiting battles--that is why they are called "battles".

Hendrix, Golson and possibly Fuller(?). Let the competition begin!

I wish him well and look forward to seeing him in college. He's handled himself classy through this whole process.

Wish more kids were like him, most ND kids are !

Holy crap, thank god. Best of luck to the kid at LSU. Anyone who says ND is better off without him is bitter and ridiculous. He may not have been the answer but we're not better off without him.

Why are so many calling for Golson when nobody has seen him play college football? Just curious, not busting ***.

Good luck kid, your going to need it. If you have any weaknesses nows the time to work them out or hide them because SEC defenses are always on search and destroy mode. Just hope he doesn't get lost in the shuffle. I'd like to see him get a real shot to play in a year or two.

I agree. I don't think we're better off without him. You can never have too many studs, IMO. I do, however, think we'll be just fine. We've got a lot of talent on this team and Kelly & Co. are continuing to add even more. This makes me no less excited for next season!

LSU is light years ahead of us.2 nc's and going for a third since 2003.The pieces are there to win big and win now.He could have been (hopefully) something special here at ND.

I think even the most delusional homers on here can admit you are speaking the truth with this post. This clearly isn't your daddy's Notre Dame, and hasn't been for awhile.

This will probably just sound like sour grapes, but I'm not upset that Kiel didn't go with the Irish. I would've obviously liked for him to commit, but I've never gotten caught up in Kielmania even when we were rumored to be in the lead. I really like Hendirx and I love Golson. I'd also be very happy if we landed Fuller in 2012 or Swoopes in 2013. I'm no expert, but I don't think Kiel is head and shoulders above any of those 4.

ah, this hurts....that deep sinking feeling when I refreshed the page, saw the 'verbal' in the URL *excited* and then followed it back to see 'lsu' :(
I really wish him luck there and hope he is successful...though I do feel for the kid because we all know the education level.

Now bring on all the posters saying "we didn't want him anyways" ...until, of course, there is a chance of him reconsidering.

I think most people share that sentiment. He is not a sure thing like Barkley and, on many different levels, is not even as good of a prospect as Bubba Starling was last year. That is why Irish fans were apathetic when he committed to IU. That's why we're apathetic now. Because he is not a "savior" type player.

So yeah... we missed out on a very good prospect. That does suck and no one should ever be happy on missing out on a high 4:s: player. But I think it will be very interesting to follow his career. He might be the next Peyton Manning. Or he might never play a down for LSU and transfer to IU after 3 years. I guess we'll have to wait and see, because he has all of the measureables but has not really been battle tested to this point.

Would have loved to have gotten him (who says no to a 5 star qb ???) but had the feeling he isn't what ND is looking for in terms of QB for the offence BK wants to put on the field. Good luck to him!

I think the thing that I really don't understand is why any young man capable of thinking out beyond five years would ever commit to an SEC school not named 'Vanderbilt' or possibly 'Florida' when he had the option to go to a school where a degree was at the minimum worth the paper it was printed on. Just for fun I was looking up the majors of kids in the SEC championship game as they were mentioned by the commentators. I got through twelve kids before I saw one that wasn't majoring in "general studies." At least if a recruit commits to Michigan, or to Northwestern, or even Ohio State, there's some degree of potential for them to get a good education if they want it. The coach is committing to give them a scholarship for the years it takes for them to earn their degree and isn't going to take it from them just because the next best thing comes along. I understand that some kids don't want to go to the toughest academic school around. That's perfectly understandable. Stanford and Notre Dame are not for everyone. However, I would not hire an LSU general studies major to pump my gas. The NFL isn't a sure thing, and even if it were, the ultimate bankruptcy rate of NFL players is astounding. I get that LSU is winning right now. I understand that they have achieved this without a world beater at QB, and that Kiel has strong potential to be just such a world beater. But as they say, it's not a four year decision, it's a forty. And this is a decision I do not get.

I know this has probably been said earlier, but I didn't want to sift through a million pages, but I am super relieved that this drama is over. I think the writing clearly was on the wall that he wouldn't choose us the longer this thing played out. A number of you have said time and time again that he knew EVERYTHING about Notre Dame and still hadnt pulled the trigger. I know he's a 5-star talent, but so was Crist...That's not saying I wouldn't want him on the team. My point is that if a Fuller-like talent would have Kelly's system running at an optimal level that Kiel may not be able to, then I think we all should be ok with not landing Kiel if we find/have the IDEAL fit for our type of offense...With that said, best of luck Gunner...

LSU has an incredibly hot and fun student body. Clouds a young man's judgement, especially when you add visions of national titles and NFL paychecks to the mix.

Like others have said, this is not devastating. Do wonder how it will effect recruiting though.

I dont hold any grudge against him for his selection of LSU. Although I kinda feel we got left standing at the alter with him 2x now. I wish him the best. And when he gets his head knocked off his shoulders by Jedaveon Clowney when they play So. Car., I will certainly remember him in my prayers. And I will pray for his good health when Nick Saban unleashes hell upon his body when they play Alabama. And.....well, I dont have enough time to go over all their SEC opponents.

Should of been Irish.

It will be interesting to see, but I feel that if the possibility of landing Gunner was our only shot of landing other top prospects, then we are really miles behind the other teams in play. Now, are there any top prospects we are still in the mix for that are also considering LSU??

So I take it no one flashed Gunner the 100% black graduation rate and the paycheck spread over 30 year stat? Oh right, kids don't care about that.

Him being from Indiana, and me growing up in Indy, I wish him luck where ever he goes.... Except when they play the Irish or IU, in which case I wish him on his back buried under Lynch, Tuit, Jones, etc... Story over, come on Hendrix, come on Golson, come on Fuller.....

I'm in the camp of Irish enthusiasts who feel it would've been nice to land Gunner, but I wasn't anywhere near as excited about him as I was Aaron, Stephon, Tee, Darby or many other recent recruits. As many others have said, I think we're pretty good at QB, as I love Hendrix and believe Golson has crazy potential... Plus, I've been really excited about the prospect of Fuller, because I think an athlete like that opens up a lot of possibilities for a team.

As far as Gunner going to LSU, like other recruits who consider us and decide to go elsewhere, I don't wish him any ill will, nor do I particularly care if he excels; I'm ambivalent about those who spurn us...

That is, until (if) we face Gunner on the field. At that point, I hope he becomes a light snack for Aaron Lynch's consumption.

I agree with this post. As a fan, I want players that want to be at ND. I wish Gunner the very best. He will be "a small fish in a big pond" at LSU. LSU is not a QB school.

Fuller come on down!!
