Lil' Wayne is terrible & the most overrated rapper of all-time.

Guitarist: Jimi Hendrix
Singer: Freddie Mercury
Song-Writer: Bob Dylan & Roger Waters
Rapper: MF Doom
Rap Producer(s): Madlib & Kanye West
Drummer: Jon Bonham
Composer: Johann Sebastian Bach

Jim Morrison is my favorite musician of all-time.

So true. Then you start putting in the Rolling Stones, AC/DC, and others. Then its 3 in the morning. Good times.

Welcome to my Grateful Dead fueled world. It's one thing leads to another. It leads to an addiction to serial "naps."

The greatest rapper of all time by far is Tupac, there is absolutely no discussion. He never sold out, although he went mainstream, is there a better rap song than California Love, I think not.

A better name for this thread might have been "What kind of music do you like?" Naming the best musician is like trying to name the "best" color. (By the way, it is blue.)

Probably a better discussion, by the way blue is the best color!

How is it even possible that Elvis Presley has not been mentioned once in 14 pages of comments???? Same with Johnny Cash, John Frusciante, Kurt Cobain, The Edge, Bono, Jack White, Clarence Clemons (RIP Big Man), Ray Charles, Elton John, Don Henley, The Who, The Clash, Bruce Springsteen, and tons of others. I realize music is entirely subjective, but for every person listed above to go completely unmentioned for this long is outrageous. For my 2 cents, I'll say Cash, Cobain, and The Who.

I agree. I can't believe many of the people on your list haven't been mentioned. I think the question of thread is very open ended. It says best and most talented so a lot of artists can fit into that criteria. I went with most talented. It was very bad on my part not to mention Presley but I'm still sticking with Prince. I don't care want anyone says. That guy can do whatever he wants. He can play any instrument, to just about perfection, can sing, write songs, do whatever he wants. He's not my favorite by any means not even close, but that guy to me is the most talented. Best ever is a very difficult discussion, if you are talking band or single person it's almost impossible.

Best rapper of all-time if MF Doom. No other rapper can use the wordplay and the tongue-twisters he does. Madvillainy is the best rap album of all-time followed closely by Illmatic and the Slim Shady LP.

Also the only way Kurt Cobain ruined rock was by murdering the last great rock star.

I don't know. That guy who plays the kettle drums for Herb Albert and the Tijauna Brass is really damned good, and just might be the greatest musician of all time.

I just don't like Nas. The Slim Shady LP was pretty good but for some reason I really liked his newest CD more than that one. I hated just about every other CD in between but I liked the newest one. Honestly I have never heard of MF Doom, I will try to give him a listen. My favorite rap CD's of all time are probably Young Buck Straight Outta Cashville, very underrated, and Tupac All Eyez on Me. I know the All Eyez on Me is a really popular CD but it was great.

I was thinking the same thing. There are so many, many unsung heroes.

Rap is noise!

I'm old and caucasian, so I'm suppose to say this.

That "I Like Big Butts" tune was cool, and who could forget "Cant Touch This"

I mentioned Luther Perkins! (Johnny Cash's guitar player, Carl Perkins' younger brother...) Carl was even better.

I don't get everyone going crazy about Elvis...hugely popular yes...incredible as a musician? No...His guitar player Scotty Moore was pretty fantastic...but E himself didn't do anything amazing or innovative as a musician. It had all been done before, it just wasn't popular for the Caucasian majority.

best and most taleneted musician is the thread title, not what is your current favorite....I like rap music, but no one associated with rap needs to be on a greatest musicans list.....ever. At most, a rap artist is a songwriter.

my short list

'Bird' Charlie Parker...who is better then the YardBird?
Louis Armstrong
Buddy Rich (most talented drummer)
'Papa' Jo Jones (most influencial drummer)
John Coltrane
Elvin Jones

The count basie orchestra from 1933-1949 had the greatest collection of world class musicians ever..

Elvis was a great ENTERTAINER, but not a great musician.
The Beatles were great SONGWRITERS, but not great musicians.
Kurt Cobain didnt kill rock music, he just killed himself.
