Since Gunner's family or friends may have stumbled upon this thread, here is a brief comparison of the value offered by ND, Vandy and LSU to their football players.

Graduation Success Rate for Football Players:
ND- 97% (1st in BCS*)
Vandy- 86% (9th in BCS)
LSU- 77% (17th in BCS)

30 year Return for Graduates:
ND- $1,623,900 (2nd in BCS)
Vandy- $1,196,200 (8th in BCS)
LSU- $816,500 (42nd in BCS)

Expected 30 year Return for Football Players:
ND- $1,575,183 (2nd in BCS)
Vandy- $1,028,732 (5th in BCS)
LSU- $628,705 (28th in BCS)

ND offers 50% more value than Vandy and ~3x more value than LSU to its football players.

*Rankings compare only schools with football programs in AQ conferences and schools that have made recent BCS appearances. There are a total of 70 schools ranked, so 35th is the median.

Vandy is not too much of a dropoff in terms of ROI, and there's immediate playing time/distance not a factor.

LSU has the "wow" factor with this BCS team.

I haven't been confident in Kiel to ND for a while.

There are no reasons for any QB on this roster to be nervous unless BK tells them that they should be so. In point of fact, BK doesn't promise anybody anything-you compete and earn whatever you get.
I remember a QB who recently announced he is transferring was thought of as having all the tools-and still does-but two knee injuries and some shaky play and he was replaced by a sophomore, permanently. If Gunner Kiel selects ND, which would be welcome news, it doesn't change the fact that he will have to earn the starting job EACH year. That's just how Kelly operates. Golson, Rees and Hendrix all know this and, unless any of them lack confidence, they know that if they are the best option they will play. Period.

$500,000 isn't much of a dropoff to you? You must make some scary good money, TT.

LSU has the "wow" factor with this BCS team.

If someone offered to compensate me for my athletic ability with $1,000,000 or "wow factor", I'd take the million every time.

I haven't been confident in Kiel to ND for a while.

I'm not confident either. But if Kiel's weighing the value of his scholarship offers from those three schools, ND is #1 by a mile.

EXACTOMUNDO! This shouldn't be overlooked. Another great example of why so many big decisions in our lives should be made with our heads...and not our feelings.

His folks would like a decision to be made before Christmas, so that Gunner can go thru the early enrollment deal. That's from bayoubengals insider on ESPN

I think Jan. 7th is his personal dead line. The latest he will decide. Theres still a good chance he will announce before that date.

he can still early enroll if he announces on january 7th

Just so happens to be the day of the Army AA game - Gunner is on the roster. I can see him waiting until then, but if sources are claiming it will be within the next week or so, then so be it.

The recent "hysteria" comes from BK saying that the EEs would be known to him by this weekend plus the internet rumors that Gunner was close to a decision. He can still go the silent commit route and let coaches know his intentions by this weekend and formally announce January 7.

Does he get a chance to start Day 1? As an EE he should learn the offense and be ready for the fall. Can you really red shirt a # 1 QB prospect with our QB troubles?

A chance? Yes. Does he? I doubt it.

QB troubles?

ND has one that's 12-3 as a starter and has already set a passing record for ND QBs.

ND has another one that in one of half of play has put the first into retirement.

ND has a third that won the Scout Team Award and with less PT than Reuttiger was immediately elected into the College Hall of Fame by ND fans.

Played 3 top 15 teams in that span (USC, Michigan & Stanford) lost all 3! 2 of which was a dirrect result of the QB position. ND needs a QB that is more than a game manager! If they are going to play Golson fine but don't give me this crap about 12-3 aganist Navy and the Marylands of the world! This is the same Tommy Rees that got picked off aganist Tulsa that cost us a game! kiel is a supreme talent much like Claussen and should get PT immediatlely!

I think you will find this amusing, found it on Tiger Droppings

ND's Brian Kelly visit with Gunner Kiel in-and-out in 3 1/2 hours
FlightAware > N42ND

I'm impressed by their sleuthing ability, but I'm not sure what to make of it. How long is an in-home visit supposed to take? Did Miles' or Franklin's take longer?

It doesn't take long to get the commitment. I'm going to be pissed if he committed without announcing it.

Silent Commits should be outlawed!

I'm not saying it happened, just if it did.

I don't know how long an in-home is typically expected to last, but it evidently went longer then what they originally anticipated.

The flight tracker says that the scheduled arrival was 7:32 with a scheduled departure of 9:30. Roughly 2 hours scheduled.

Actual flight arrived at 8:13 and left at 11:45. Roughly 3 1/2 hours.

I don't know if that is a good sign or a bad sign. All I know is that it looks like they originally anticipated being in Columbus for 2 hours but they were actually there for 3 1/2 hours.

They had to get all of the EE papers signed. :)

J/K

Haha. Maybe Kelly gave him an ultimatum. Put the papers on the table and said:"you take it or you leave it''. Then, Gunner signed because he saw a couple of veins popping on Diaco's neck.

I wouldn't mind if Gunner waits to announce as long as he puts on our hat. What better exposure then to announce on a nationally televised network/program.

I'm thinking the kid would want to announce earlier in an attempt to draw a few stud WR, OL, RB, or TEs into the fold....
