BK calls the plays correct? So I guess I just don't understand the offensive coordinator tag...

And I would think BK is pretty hands on with the QBs too...

Anyway, best of luck to him

I wish him well. Best of luck and all that, he was a great part of the team but I'm just not that miffed with him taking off. I'm not seeing him as critical, but I'm an outsider and that may be a statement that turns out to be true.

OC job is much more than calling plays. Molnar calls the plays and Kelly gets the final call. Basically Molnar calls plays two downs in advance and Kelly either annexes it or goes with the play call.

Anyways, wish him the best.

Congrats to him. Every coach at every level wants to eventually get his own program. I'm happy for him, and I'm sure BK will do a good job filling the hole in the staff. Good luck, Charley!

So, how screwed are we?

Screwed? It might actually be a good thing. Warriner is likely to be promoted to OC in Molnar's absence, and he's arguably more important to the program; promoting him means we've got a better shot at keeping him.

It also means Kelly has a chance to hire a new OL coach. Hopefully someone young and dynamic with superior recruiting chops.

If only Molnar's move offered Kelly an opportunity to promote Alford as well.

Agreed. In some ways, I think Warinner could actually be an upgrade. Molnar was the first choice as OC for Kelly because of several years of working together. Warinner might be better at the position but just didn't have the familiarity and experience with Kelly. After seeing what he's done with the OL and run game, I'd be more than happy with him as OC.

From his bio Ed Warinner Named University of Notre Dame Offensive Line Coach - UND.COM - University of Notre Dame Official Athletic Site

At Kansas, Warinner served as offensive coordinator for three of the most successful offensive seasons in school history. From 2007-09, the Jayhawks posted the three highest yards-per-game averages and the three most prolific passing seasons in Kansas history. They also scored points in bunches, as three of the top seven scoring seasons in school history came under his direction. Under Warinner's watch as offensive coordinator, the Jayhawks averaged 445.5 total yards per game, 302.1 passing yards per contest and 35.3 points on a combined basis from 2007-09. Kansas' offensive players were recognized for the success on the field, as 18 players received all-Big 12 Conference honors from 2007-09.

Great! Thank you for this, I can sleep tonight. I thought he was a pretty big piece of our program and the players really liked him. If he wasn't that great, then heck yeah! Any change is good change.

Molnar was good. He's getting a head coaching job for a reason. It's just that Warriner may prove to be better, and that luckily I don't think Molnar was near to being one of our best recruiters.

I can't think of any coordinator job > than a HC job...just different when you sit in "the" chair at any level. And I think anyone in a BCS program that hires an Asst. vs a HC from a lower division is nucking futs...

Congrats coach...I hope we see you across the way in a few years with a big program...thanks for everything...

The average DI head coach gets paid around 2 million whereas an assistant coach/coordinator...not so much.
