Sugar Bowl - Michigan vs. Vtech

I was hoping the Wolverines would end up with a tougher opponent that V-tech. What do you guys think of the game? V-tech hasn't really beaten anyone. Their most impressive win is vs. G-tech.

VT is trash. Extremely vanilla offense that makes our attack look like Oregon. Their defense also utterly struggles with any team with moderate athleticism at the skill positions. I've watched about 8 of their games this year and am surrounded by their fans... every realistic Tech fan and myself agree this is both the worst offensive and defensive Tech team we have seen in awhile... and if you remember when they played Stanford last year, they've never been as "good" as their record indicates.

Can they beat Michigan? Hell yeah. Michigan's defensive numbers are very fraudulent and Tech has great special teams that can make a difference. Will they beat Michigan? I doubt it. In fact, they could get totally blown out. They've only played one ranked team this year (Clemson x2) and got embarrassed.

As an aside, it should've been Boise State or TCU vs. Michigan. The computers absolutely screwed TCU... and the people picking the bowls screwed Boise. More people would've tuned in to see Boise play Michigan and the stadium still would've easily sold out. Oh well.

Herbstreit's tirade last night was epic. He blasted the BCS for making their at-large picks based solely on who would travel well, and ripped VT for making it over Boise. He said if he was a coach, he would do every year what VT did this year, schedule all cupcakes and finish with a misleading record.

I think we should support VTech. with everything we can. Is it legal to send them players or coaching assistance? LOL. Launch and fund a nation wide Mich. smear campaign? GO VTECH!!

HATE this matchup! What a joke. Neither team deserved to be picked over a handful of others who were ranked higher. The BCS committee is out of control.

Obviously I will be rooting for VT, but it sucks because a Hokie win would validate their BCS bid, which is questionable at best.

Let me be clear...I do not like Kansas State. But, they absolutely deserved this game more than either team who got the pick. Only losses were to OK and OK-State (barely).

If you're going to go by the numbers for #1 and #2, you have to stick with it from that point on.

How is that the BCS committee's fault? They don't select the teams for BCS bowls, the bowls do.

This game is an absolute joke.

#1 KSU, Boise, and TCU were all much more deserving than Va Tech. I completely agree with Herbie.

#2 I also think it a travesty that Michigan is in a BCS bowl as well. They did not beat either of the top 2 teams in their conference (MSU and Wisconsin) and benefited from sitting back and watching MSU lose in the B1G title game, basically penalizing MSU for winning the leaders (or whatever one it is) division. I guess it pays not to play in the title game.

I guess the only real benefit is that the talk of this game is now all about who got snubbed rather than praising Hoke and scUM for getting to a BCS bowl.

Did you expect anything less than this? The BCS is $$$ and outside of #1 vs #2, it makes no difference. The sad thing is there is more money to made in a playoff but much like the music/movie industry they just don't see the forest through the trees.

Frankly if I am picking, I would have picked UM & Boise. Boise just doesn't fill up the, not just the stadium, but the hotels and everything else that is a boon to the city hosting.

I can't figure out how colleges from down south fill up the hotels at bowl games? Half of their fans can hook their house to their pick up and take it with them?

J/K!

This is much better than what could have been (Houston vs Michigan). Nonetheless, I think it's becoming obvious that bowl game selection is just not working like you'd want. I've always liked bowl games. I'm sure players love them too, but...I can only think of the video CanadianIrish posted in the "awesome video thread".

Well, we have to make hay while the sun shines... Next year we have a tougher B10 schedule, only 6 home games, and we open with Alabama in Dallas. Yikes! Denard will be lucky to live through that game. Here's hoping he's healed up by September 22.

I have a strong feeling that if scUM wins, this offseason will be unbearable

scUM fans, win or lose, are absolutely unbearable. ND fans are delusional and pretty douchebaggy. scUM fans are just as delusional, with four times the douchebaggery. So yeah, the offseason will be awful, but as long as ND wins next year, I won't give half a $hit about michigan.

I might be alone on this but I think Va Tech will be able to run on Michigan's defense enough to keep them in the game.

If Logan Thomas can just hold onto the ball (serious fumbling issues) and extend some plays with his legs they can beat Michigan..

Although, Tech has a history of playing awful and getting exposed in bowl games.. because of a ridiculously weak schedule.

Either way, I think Tech wins 31-28

As was mentioned earlier, VT has a much better chance of beating scUM than Houston. So there's that.

Worst part is we gave them the BCS bowl.....
We have nothing ,but bad luck...

1. We need better athletes
2. We need to win more games

I don't want another 20 yrs of this... Seems USC, and Michigan are staying on top and it's getting harder for us to sign athletes and win games each yr..

I just got a fullsize ND shamrock helmet, and the Michigan game on dvd... i just turn it of 30 seconds early.. lol
