If Taylor did come to Notre Dame, how would that effect our recruitment of Dylan Chmura next cycle?

He's not a great fit for this system but he is a hell of a blocking tight end. I like the kid a lot, but he is not a spread TE.

well from everything i read about people posting on this site i thought he was going to be a beast...i understand injuries have set him back and yes this is his first season but i guess my expectations were just higher after he has been so highly praised on here and by the coaches

IT probably wont hurt. I have a feeling that if Eifert has another good year he will be gone so we will just be filling his spot.

Someone on 247 just said Taylor tweeted "About to watch Rudy!"

Looks like he really enjoyed things

Yes, after an off-season with Longo.

Kid was ranked #1 (Scout), #4 (247), and #7 (Rivals) as a TE last year.

Needs to bulk up.

Good. I admittingly don't know a ton about Taylor, but I have read a lot on Chmura and I really would like to land him.

Rivals does have a check next to ND for an offer. They also no longer show him as an Arizona commit.

The pay article head line states something about he needs to show patience towards ND which would lead you to believe he is still waiting on an offer. Does anyone have access to that article?

Everything you said is true. Denbrock wants a TE bk doesnt know. He might have an offer but i dont think its commitable. He understands whats going on with the situation.

Considering canceling one of his remaining officials to take one to Michigan.

Shane Morris and Erik Magnuson have been recruiting him.

Garnett has been talking about playing together with him too.

michigan does need tight ends very badly and early pt is a definite possibility there compared to with us...this could happen unfortunately.

This could play either way with Garnett. McNamara might have loved his visit so much that he would help Garnett's interest in us. Just a thought.

Very optimistic but not likely. Slow playing him could hurt here. In two years we could be kicking ourselves over this situation.

It is indeed optimistic. After last year's haul, I find that it is better to be so than to panic at any sight of recruiting defeat. In either case, we have 0 control over it. Therefore, pessimism is counter productive in my opinion.

I thought when he said he was about to watch "Rudy" it was a done deal?

Darn these kids and what they say on the net.

I'd have to say that we don't need a TE in this class.

You're right that we don't "need" one, in the sense that we'll already have 4 TEs for 2012. But we lose Eifert and J. Golic after 2012, leaving only Welch, Koyack, and whichever TE we pick up in 2013.

Do we recruit 2 2013 TEs so we'll have the ideal 4 in 2013? Or just one, and hope no one gets injured?

Kelly is beginning to really enjoy two-tight-end sets also, so it's imperative to have four players on the roster [three ready to go, and one learning]. When you have a macro-talent like Eifert [and I expect Koyack to be the same], splitting that talent out with another dangerous tight end in normal position really gives defense troubles, and makes up for some thinness at WR if you have any. I believe that this athlete could look forward to one learning year and easily see the field the next if he's Koyack-good.

I agree with the last two posters, we need 4 and having 4 enables us to run 2 man sets, even if someone is injured (with 3, you risk the other guy not being truly ready).

I would add that if TEs love ND, and we have an identity there, then run with it. If we are having trouble getting Tier 1 RBs or WRs, then compensate with TEs. And recruit kids who want to play and can contribute immediately, at least to ST- no more redshirting.
