I can definitely see the McDonald suspension. He's had multiple penalized hits in the games I've watched of USC.

I agree he was unlucky on that one, but he's had more than just one this year.

I personally wish this rule didn't exist because I grew up learning that if you can't get to the ball before the receiver then you have to lay a big enough hit on him to knock it loose. You never aim for his head (simply because that's bad technique), but you can't always help where you hit a guy.

My favorite form of dislodging the ball is sweeping out their legs while they jump for it though.

LOL that article is ridiculous. First of all, the play to go to OT isn't on the umpire at all... it got reviewed by the replay official who (along with the head referee) made the call to go to OT.

Second, the umpire simply puts the ball where he is told to put the ball. If it was the wrong spot, he should/would have been instructed to put it in the correct spot.
