Needed a qb after Campbell went down last week. Gave up a first round pick for this year and an additional first rounder if Oakland makes playoffs.

Great deal for Cincinnati, who would have thought one poss two first rounders for a quaterback well past his prime......Oakland has to be hard up.....

OAK gave up alot to get him, but as a life-long raider fan I think its a good deal. they need a good QB and Carson is the best candidate at QB for the Raiders since Rich Gannon. Rich Gannon came in and knocked the roof of the organization after being a career long backup. Carson Palmer comes in as a more qualified QB than what Gannon was at the time....so lets see how Carson Palmer performs, good day for Raider fans, I think.

As a Raider fan , I am excited to see the team trying to get better for the now, rather than to pack it in and go for the Andrew Luck sweepstakes.

It is a lot, but I have a feeling Palmer will come in and perform for Oakland, and get them all the way to the playoffs.

They were too far ahead to really get into the Andrew Luck sweepstakes anyway. I still think the Dolphins are getting him, even if they have to go 0-16.

Great deal for the Bengals.

I guess I just don't understand how Palmer is worth potentially two #1 picks, and Brandon Llyod goes for one 5th. Weird.

Hope I can get Palmer on waivers in my money league. Vick is on a bye and there is NO ONE else on waivers I even want to peek at.

So he's guaranteed 100% going to suit up for Oakland?

The Lloyd trade was a steal for the Rams in my book. Denver has a serious problem holding on to good players.

I can't imagine how they would trade all that for him not knowing 100% he wants to play.

Although, this is the Raiders we are talking about.

The deal was agreed to in principle, just working out some of the details like money. For what Oakland has giving up for him, it is obvious he is going to be their franchise QB for the next three years.

Thank GOD my Bungles finally got rid of him. I never thought I could be happy over a Mike Brown decision. It's amazing.
I always told my friends in Cincy to never trust a SUCK QB as our starter and they never believed me...

Unless Carson Palmer is the second coming of Rich Gannon...I'm still struggling wrapping my mind around two first round picks.

If they traded without an assurance he will play it's proof to me that he faked his own death and is still calling the shots without fear of ridicule.

Weren't the first round picks conditional? I'm betting one is based on him suiting up and the other is based on him doing well.

The 2012 first round pick is a 1st round pick. The 2013 2nd round pick becomes a first round pick if Oakland wins a playoff game.

By the way couldn't be happier. The stars had to align for this to happen. Jason Campbell gets hurt. We all know Oakland is the only team that will give the Bengals what they want. Hue Jackson recruited Carson to USC and has a previous relationship and coaching at Cincinnati. This was bound to happen a greater force made this one come to life. Bengals now sitting pretty with a lot of draft picks. I think this was a steal for Cincinnati. To me Carson was worth maybe one 2nd round pick maybe even a 3rd. Oh well good job Mike Brown.

The Bengals received a '12 first rounder and a '13 second rounder. There was rumor about the '13 pick being a conditional 1st (if the Raiders won a playoff game this year), but that turned out to be unsubstantiated.

According to Schefter.

Also, apparently the Raiders confirmed the deal today by tweeting a picture of Carson singing the papers. I don't run with that crowd so I have no twitter sign on but here is the link for those that do:

Twitter

Lots of weapons for Carson at Oakland, with DHB, Murphy, Ford, Moore and an awesome run game.

To be fair, Carson also had a lot of weapons in Cincy last year and did relatively nothing with them: Chad, T.O., Simpson, Shipley, Gresham, etc.

To also be fair, he never had a run game like the Raiders have this year. They also have a great defense.

The Raiders have a window this year where they could be a playoff contender. This is a "win now" league and they have a young group of very talented players. Rumor has it that they drafted Pryor to play WR, this is speculation of course, but he could certianly contribute in that capacity in a big way. They need a QB to get to that next level, and they certianly aren't going to get it with whatever pick they get next year (plus, they haven't exactly been a good evaluater of college qbs.... JRussel, anyone?) I have never thought very highly of the Raiders, but as an impartial onlooker, this is a good move for both parties.

i can see what your saying...when Rich Gannon was acquired by the raiders, I thought "oh ****, another re-tread QB that has never won a dang thing." But Rich Gannon came in and the Raider offense was the best in franchise history.

Consider the awesome running game that the raiders have right now(just like when gannon was there, remember Charlie Garner?) that run game will help out Carson Palmer tremendously. All of a sudden, Carson doesnt have the be 'the guy' he can supplement the run game rather than 'being the guy'. In Cincy it was more all on his shoulders, then he had to deal with 'Nah-I-know-better-than-you-Chad-Ochocinco'

also, raider fans know that thru the years the Raiders have NEVER drafted well, never. So giving up a first round, and a 2nd round conditional pick doesnt look so bad. The Raiders have never hesitated to pick up free agents, so giving up draft picks looks bad, but I dont think it is as bad as it appears.

Just like when the Raiders lost Nnamdi Asomghua, everyone thought it was a huge loss, but I just dont see it that way. Look at Nnamdi now, he left the Raiders and went to a worse team, and OAK doesnt miss him one bit.

As long as Carson Palmer doesnt pull a JRUSS, I think OAK made the move that was necessary.

NOTE: for Carson Palmer the raiders gave up a first round pick, and a conditional 2nd round pick. If the Raiders win a playoff game this year, then that conditional 2nd round pick becomes a 1st round pick

NOTE: the one draft that OAK had that was exceptionally good was the year that Gruden drafted Sebastian Janikowski, AND Shane Lechler in the same draft. that was over 10 years ago and both are still on the team, and both have had exceptional careers.

They have never draftes quarterbacks well. They have actually drafted decent with other positions

  • Darren McFadden
  • Zach Miller

  • Sebastian Janikowski

  • Nnamdi Asomugha

  • Matt Shaughnessy

  • Mario Henderson

I'm leaving off guys like Michael Bush and Daruis Heyward-Bey, both who have had moments, but haven't set the world on fire.
All of these dudes are pretty good.

OAK might pick up a player here or there in the draft, Tim Brown comes to mind, but they have never relied on draft picks...part of the raider mystique, love it or hate it, is picking up older guys that other teams no longer want.....

my point being, OAK giving up draft picks to get Carson Palmer doesnt hurt as much as it would other teams.
