It's easier to defend against the pass in the red zone since there's less space for the offense to work with, which in turn makes it easier to key in against the run. A mobile QB helps to offset that defensive advantage in the red zone because they have to keep contain on him.

Dayne is (1) not as mobile as Hendrix/ Golson, and (2) not the future.

I expected to read "I got 99 posts but a bitch ain't one."

Hope we don't have a penis joke overload in this thread. lol

I would love someone more mobile in the red zone especially though because likes it's been said, we often go three and out inside the 10 yard line.

I think its gonna be Hendrix in the red zone stuffing it in hard for a score. People will feel relieved, satisfied and overjoyed after he is done doing that. He, himself will feel even better.. Hell, the people have been begging him for it.

How did we get here? Why am I writing like this?

^all valid bud. but, lets not forget that dayne led in rushing touchdowns last year. so there is still the run threat, albeit, not with a wrecking ball like hendrix or the flash of golsen. again, im just throwing around another option.

on top of all of this stuff, is this merely to keep either hendrix or golsen interested so they think twice about transferring?

opinions?

That sadly reflects more on the inconsistency of our 2010 running game than on Dayne's abilities.

Dayne as the change-of-pace QB is plausible, but live snaps are precious, and they'd be somewhat wasted on a senior who probably won't be asked back for a 5Y.

If this is the case, it is to keep Hendrix interested, not Golson. Golson knows he is going to be a stud for the next 4 years so he isnt going anywhere. Atleast I hope not because I am so ****ing amped to see this kid. I got a new #5 jersey just for him.

Oh, well in that case, he has to be a stud then.....

I'd like to think that the kind of kids that ND gets are not the kind of kids that are likely to transfer elsewhere. I know there were some during the Weis era. But, if the stories are true, then those kids had virtually NO chance of playing anything other than Special Teams with the way Weis handled the two deep. I'm old fashioned, in that I would absolutely NOT even consider transfer, as a reason to play a kid. If he's the kind of kid who needs his ego stroked, and is that selfish, then I don't really want him on my team.

i think you're right kmoose.

i was just poking around another thread and saw that hendrix is pre-med. that sets my mind at ease too.

without really getting into it again. i was a dayne fan coming in this year. loved what tommy had done last year. but i was at GVSU during the most successful kelly years and i saw what he could do with d-2 talent.

tommy is probably twice as gifted as curt anes was. but curt could move. had he not had had knee cap moved to the back of his leg in the playoffs, GV wouldve won that first N.C. AND anes would've won the Harlon Hill trophy (d-2 equivalent of Heisman) that year.

i cant wait till kelly has a QB that can move. and i cant wait to see some fireworks today!

45 minutes!! GO IRISH!!!

posted this in the official game thread also:

anyone else notice hendrix is wearing his helmet and dayne has his red (pink) hat on? which he has not done this year.

I'm not sure that putting Hendrix in equates to a special package, but to me the major thing going on this game early is they are featuring Theo big-time.

And that is why you do it: they just faked the jet sweep to Theo and ran Gray up the middle for a BIG gain.

And there is Hendrix running an option in the RZ. I really like what we're doing early here.
