Jeff Benson is the likely replacement for Hester. I'd say he will have a hell of a time with Nix.

Benson 6'0" 250 lbs
Nix 6'3" 326 lbs

Nice! I hope our boys can play smart! Especially our DBs, I am afraid of getting lulled into tryen to stuff the run and getting beat deep. Frankly Motta is the one that scares me the most, that kid is out of position A LOT!

Cowart's 6'2'', 215. Cave is certainly bigger, though.

Yup I can't stand when we play the service academies for the reason we usually lose one or two players for several games. Hope we stay healthy and get the win.

Keep in mind he's probably more mobile than the other center, able to get to the second level if for some reason Nix, Cwynar and Williams don't eat him for lunch.

I loved what CBK had to say about this. Air Force is smart and hard to figure out, we're big, stronger, and more physical...we need to play like it.

If you freak out about the option you get out of your game. Just dominate the line of scrimmage and everything else falls into place.

Right on! I think we will dominate the trenches....but I hope we dont get stung on the back end with a deep pass, because this isnt Army. For the record, I still think we are win but I hate when we get caught with our pants down in the secondary. I hope Slaughter gets a majority of the snaps over Motta.

From what I've read the greater concern that they have is the loss of two defensive tackles. The replacements were talked about as a serious step down in terms of power. That could be a huge problem for their run-stop ability.

Here's what some cursory research turned up:

AF runs a 3-4. Their starting NT, starting right DE, and one of their starting LBs are all out.

The starting NT was Ryan Gardner-- a very experienced 6'3'', 260 lb. senior. Replacing him is Ross Fleming-- a very inexperienced 6'3'' 250 lb. junior. He's played in eight games and accumulated 5 TTs (2 UT and 3 AT). Our interior OL outweigh his kid by 53 lbs (Cave), 61 lbs. (Robinson), and 60 lbs. (Watt).

The starting right DE was Zach Payne-- a very experienced 6'3'' 255 lb. senior. Replacing him is Daniel Vinson-- a 6'3'', 245 lb. sophomore with no first team experience. He played on the junior varsity (scout?) team last year as a freshman.

The starting LB was Patrick Hennessey-- a very experienced 6'2'', 255 lb. senior. Replacing him is Stephan Atrice-- a 6'1'', 200 lb. junior with no experience at LB. He primarily played on ST and as a backup Safety over the last two years.

AF's defense is pretty banged up right now. They were undersized the begin with, especially for a 3-4, but the injuries have robbed them of serious size and experience in their front seven. ND should be able to run the ball straight down their throats.

I agree with trinity, I love watching this team run the ball. The Irish get to the edge so quickly and the pulling is executed beautifully, they get a convoy out there and go go go.

Cierre Wood will have another big game, and it is crucial for Notre Dame to score touchdowns instead of field goals in the red zone and this will happen more easily with the advantage in the line.

I think Vinson and Atrice will be playing on the same side, but I haven't been able to confirm that.

Gameplan should feature HEAVY doses of Cierre and Jonas, and maybe finally getting Theo involved in the ground game through a jet sweep or a reverse.

From the early season highlights I saw, DB Nick Miller? looked to be their best DB. And hes hurt so thats better for us.

Did Navy's Cut blocking take them all out or were they hurt before?

This is my biggest concern going into this weekend. I'm pretty sure we lost Ian last year during the Navy game due to a cut block. Service academies may not have our bulk, but they're experienced at dealing with size disadvantages. I pray our men stay healthy through the game, I think we'll do fine if that happens.

FCB Anthony Wright, Jr. is AF's best DB, and he's healthy. Keith Arnold interviewed an AF blogger who thinks Wright (at 5'10'', 200 lbs.) will be able to shut down Floyd. I chortled, because the Purdue blogger said the same thing about Ricardo Allen last week.

Brian Linsdsay is the #2 FCB and the starting Nickelback. He's out with a groin injury.

Chris Miller is the #2 BCB. He's out with a leg injury.

Their top four DBs are all available, but they're thin behind the starters. They probably won't be able to field a competent Nickel and Dime package against us.

Ok thanks. And about stopping Floyd with Wright, thats really funny. Stopping Floyd is easier said than done.
