I know old-timers don't care about stuff like this, but ND needs this kind of stuff, along with throwbacks and the TECHFITs and all that stuff. It helps make the ND brand resonate with this generation of recruits. The key, I think, is to incorporate a lot of the tradition into the "modern" gear. If you look around the college football landscape, all of the "tradition-rich" programs are participating in this kind of thing (except maybe Penn St., but they are also falling behind).

Anyway, the gloves are sick. They are definitely representative of the swagger that is coming back into the program.

If 11-1 in 2005, and 11-2 in each of 2008 and 2009 is "falling behind", sign me up!

Here are the teams that Penn State beat in 2010: Youngstown State, Kent State, Temple, Michigan, Northwestern and Indiana at home; Minnesota on the road.

In 2009, they won non-conference games against Akron, Syracuse, Temple, Eastern Illinois and a big win against LSU in their bowl game.

Penn State has been OK, but I hope ND will achieve at a level higher than what Penn State has been the last few years. Meaning: a true, legit national championship contender. Penn State has been an above-average Big 10 team, which has been an average conference.

Those gloves are sweet...gimme a pair of the ones in the upper left please and thank you.

I can't contain myself...is it September yet? I'll settle for July and NCAA12 first. LETS GO!

I agree.. Waste of money. The gameplay might possibly be worse.

I think it's a lot better.

A lot of people are complaining because now they can't do the cheap crap they did in last year's version. Wasn't that the problem with last year's game?

Deserves to be mentioned on the Doak Walker Watch List. Kid could have a big year if he stays healthy.

I know a lot of fans and experts think that ND's season rests more on the quarterback position than anything else but I disagree. Tommy Rees was not spectacular last year by and means but a solid running game and great defense won us games last year. I don't expect Tommy Rees or Dayne Crist to be any worse than last year. A solid running game would provide a safety valve for both of these inexperianced quarterbacks. I think ND's offense will flourish in 2012 and most of that will be due to the running game.

I don't think Cierre is a top five back when you sit back and look at guys like Lattimore, James, Richardson, and so on, but he could prove to be just as important. Good to see him getting some pre-season love.

Could Cierre Wood leave for the NFL after this season?

At the rate he is going at, he might test tha waters. Thoughts...

He would have to have a monster second half of the season to even get a high enough grade to consider it, IMO. There are simply a lot of backs ahead of him on NFL scout's radars right now. He spends one more season, and is gone after his senior season (RS Jr year).

Yea you guys are probably right, but if keeps ripping off 100+ yard games...he might think about it.

Let's not forget, Cierre either carries the ball for 8+ yards or he gets shut down in the backfield. I love Cierre and what he is doing, but he has some work to do before he goes to the league.

How is Walker's NFL career looking? Don't confuse 100 yard games with just RB talent, O Line deserves a lot of credit. Cierre is getting the job done but I think Jonas is looking tougher right now and helping his stock especially with no one catching him from behind on that 70 yard run.

At this point, I don't see it happening. He's currently 9th in total rushing yds. in cfb, but he doesn't stand out as elite (yet anyway).

Would he be rated higher than Jonas if Cierre came out?

I honestly don't think he would. Jonas has an incredible combination of size and speed. Cierre will probably come back about 5 lbs heavier next year and that little bit helps when pro scouts are evaluating RBs.

Right the backup runningback would be rated higher than the starter.

The NFL is all about measurables, and Jonas is bigger, stronger, and allegedly faster than Cierre. It wouldn't be surprising at all for Jonas to earn a higher draft grade than Cierre this year.

Ronnie Brown was Cadilac Williams' back up at Auburn...and rated higher and drafted ahead of him.

Just like colleges signing players based on potential, NFL teams often draft guys based on potential. Gray certainly has that in droves.

And Brandon Jacobs was 3rd string. Had to transfer to So. Illinois for playing time. Crazy backfield.

Absolutely! And they had that white guy too- Tre something who had a huge game against Florida or LSU the year before when the other guys were hurt.

The Arkansas backfield they had for 3 years was pretty sweet too with McFadden, Felix Jones, and Peyton Hillis!
