From what I understand, Tuitt is a very strong student. I'm suprised that he would miss many classes. I hope he gets it together and is able to get back on the field.
Irish head coach Brian Kelly on freshman DE Stephon Tuitt: "Oh yeah, he'll be back next week."

The strongest students are those who don't have to go to class to get a good grade.
I think I attended about 25% of my fresh year classes at ND. Unfortunately for Stephon, he's under a lot more scrutiny than I was.

Wow...I can't imagine doing that at ND.
I went to WKU and was not prepared for college life...I maybe went to 25% of my classes....my first semester of college my GPA was 0.8

Tim Prister at II made a good point. Not only did he miss a game but he missed a game where a starter had to sit due to injury AND as a result Kona had to burn a year of eligiblity. So not only did he miss valuable PT but he affected the career if a teammate in a negative way.
In other words, he should have learned his lesson
How is this the case? Kona is a sophmore, correct? Didn't he play last year? His eligibility clock has already started, he isn't red shirting this year as far as I know.
Thought the same thing.
Kona was redshirting this year. The staff wanted to preserve a year for him and because of last night he had to play
He's a sophomore.
He's a sophomore.
He can be "redshirted" any year. At least I think so. As long as he doesn't play for an entire year, he'd be eligible to be brought back for a 5th year.

no problem, he was kind of forced into playing time because of injuries and lack of depth along the D line. He was actually pretty productive. I'm not sure which game it was, but he didn't start playing until about halfway through the season.
when/where did the staff ever mention they wanted to preserve a year for Kona by redshirting him this year? We have plenty of bodies we could have rotated in at DE I would imagine if that were the case.

^True^
Ya I thought the same thing as many of you, but upon further research you can redshirt any year. I used to think that once your eligibility started, you couldnt stop it unless an injury forced it. This rule is often times why players who get hurt their junior season end up coming back for a 5th or 6th year.
Nope, you have a 5 year window to use your 4 years of athletic eligibility once it starts. Obviously a medical redshirt extends that but those aren't that common.
They don't need to mention it. If they didn't play him he would have preserved a year of eligibility.
