From what I understand, Tuitt is a very strong student. I'm suprised that he would miss many classes. I hope he gets it together and is able to get back on the field.

It's certainly deserving of a punishment, but I consider it relieving considering that I've missed a class (or a few) before. Although my freshman courses are probably a lot easier than his.

Get your butt to class Mr. Tuitt!

Oh and this is definitely a good punishment. Think about how you would feel if you had to stay back in South Bend while your team played it's best game of the season. Not to mention how much time he probably would have got.

The strongest students are those who don't have to go to class to get a good grade.

I think I attended about 25% of my fresh year classes at ND. Unfortunately for Stephon, he's under a lot more scrutiny than I was.

The 'best students' tend to go to class, in my experience. They tend to be just as clever as those who ditch, but they show up and perform better overall. It's the bright and cocky ones that tend not to go to class (and then pat themselves on the back about it). I was one of the cocky ones my freshman year and it took me a year to wise up.

Wow...I can't imagine doing that at ND.
I went to WKU and was not prepared for college life...I maybe went to 25% of my classes....my first semester of college my GPA was 0.8

Look at it this way... That would have been one hell of an earned run average if you were a pitcher on the WKU baseball team. ;)

Tim Prister at II made a good point. Not only did he miss a game but he missed a game where a starter had to sit due to injury AND as a result Kona had to burn a year of eligiblity. So not only did he miss valuable PT but he affected the career if a teammate in a negative way.

In other words, he should have learned his lesson

How is this the case? Kona is a sophmore, correct? Didn't he play last year? His eligibility clock has already started, he isn't red shirting this year as far as I know.

Kona was redshirting this year. The staff wanted to preserve a year for him and because of last night he had to play

no problem, he was kind of forced into playing time because of injuries and lack of depth along the D line. He was actually pretty productive. I'm not sure which game it was, but he didn't start playing until about halfway through the season.

when/where did the staff ever mention they wanted to preserve a year for Kona by redshirting him this year? We have plenty of bodies we could have rotated in at DE I would imagine if that were the case.

who though? Schwenke is listed as the 5th DE on the depth chart (assuming they can all flip to either side of the line). Johnson and Tuitt out leave him as the 3rd, and Diaco likes to rotate guys in to keep them as fresh as possible. I'm not sure who would be next in line behind Schwenke, but its either a freshman or some other player who isn't ready to play. There might not have even been any other DE's on the bus.

I'm not going to look through each press conference transcript for your answer but Kelly was asked why Kona hasn't played and he said the plan is for him not to play this year if they can.

As for bodies they Have KLM, EJ, Tuitt, Lynch, Hafis, and Kona. Hounshell did not travel with the team.

That leaves only 3 DE's for the whole game if they hold Kona out with EJ and Tuitt gone.

They don't need to mention it. If they didn't play him he would have preserved a year of eligibility.

Ya I thought the same thing as many of you, but upon further research you can redshirt any year. I used to think that once your eligibility started, you couldnt stop it unless an injury forced it. This rule is often times why players who get hurt their junior season end up coming back for a 5th or 6th year.

Nope, you have a 5 year window to use your 4 years of athletic eligibility once it starts. Obviously a medical redshirt extends that but those aren't that common.

Those I know you have to petition the NCAA in order to obtain.

This is incorrect. Once the clock starts, you can not redshirt after that. Kona does not preserve a year of eligibility this year simply by not playing, this I am quite sure of. BGIF? I know this has been discussed on other threads, can't remember whose thread however.

You can redshirt...any year in between.

"The term "redshirt" is used to describe a student-athlete who does not participate in competition in a sport for an entire academic year. If you do not compete in a sport the entire academic year, you have not used a season of competition."

"Each student is allowed no more than four seasons of competition per sport..."
