He's almost the same stature as Hart, and at 4.76 as his listed time on espn, I don't know that he's that much faster.

Hart was 5'9", 200 as a college senior. Mahone is 6'0", 205 as a high school senior.

Mahone definitely does not run a 4.76. I'm telling you guys. He has vastly underrated speed.

I think 6'0" is pretty generous. He's 5'11" on rivals, but I'd be surprised if he's over 5'10". He is heavier though, you're right.

4.76 according to espn, 4.6 according to scout. Like I said, I don't think Hart was much slower than that.

4.67 at the NFL Combine.

247: :s::s::s:, NR, NR
Scout: :s::s::s::s:, 10th RB, 115th Nationally
Rivals: :s::s::s::s:, 11th RB, 153rd Nationally
ESPN: :s::s::s::s:, 14th RB, NR

Composite Score: 3.75:s:, 12th RB, 134th Nationally

If there's any concern over his ratings (and this is truly nit-picking), it's that the most accurate service (247) is the least high on him. It's hard to be encouraged by the fact that the other three services are close in their ratings; they cross-reference each other so much that it may just be a sign of lazy scouting.

Then again, his film is impressive, and Kelly > Services.

Huge get for the Irish. One of the most important commits yet.

I know NE Ohio is not known for their speed, but if you watch his tape he is running past and then away from defenders. That didn't look like 4.76 to me, unless he was playing against statues.

I was in a euchre tournament and missed the announcement tonight. My friend texted me and I cheered in front of a bunch of confused onlookers. I plan on going to see Fitch play North Canton next week and holding a sign welcoming the newest member of the ND family!

I trust Kelly's judgement even more since it's been said that he's been recruiting Will since he was back at Cincy. Kelly knows exactly what this kid can bring to the table.

Not calling you out whatsoever b/c I also happen to like 247's rankings a lot and agree with you, but I have no justification for it. Why do you think they are the most accurate? They haven't really been around long enough to establish a rep (yes they hired good scouts from other services). My liking of their ratings is simply a gut feeling.

I can't link to the scientific study or anything that proves 247's superiority. Saying it's a "gut feeling" is probably not accurate either. Many of us follow recruiting very closely; we watch a lot of film, frequently read scouting reports, and we pay attention to how each service has rated our favorite recruits.

247's ratings are more often in line with my own than any other service, so I consider them the most accurate. Take it for what it's worth.

247 > Scout > Rivals > ESPN.

come on.

he reminds me of Johnathan Stewart.

Mahone is already over 200 pounds and he will be around 220 when he hits the field at ND. Rashard Mendenhall was not a big back at Illinois IMO, he got big when he went into the NFL. I think he can be like Bettis, he can run you over and he can out run at the same time. He does remind of Stewart a little bit but not as much

Although I never think it's a done deal until they sign, I'm super excited at the explosive speed we are landing on both sides of the ball. I also really like that he is the only kid we have landed under 6'0, I want everyone else to tower over him and I want him to sneak into the hole.....cut once and gone.

Welcome...welcome...welcome young man. One of the best choices for your entire life's development. Great place, great heart, great soul.

To the IE gang: did someone say he spoke as a several week "silent commit"? If so, how many other young supermen might be that [as it seems Day might also have been]? And if so, what does Coach know now, and how does that affect whether he is even going after certain players [ex. Dieter; or the recent Pitt commit O-Lineman; etc]. This train may be a lot fuller than we suppose. I am particularly intrigued by the possibility that at least one bluechip O-Line could be this way.

Great pick-up. One running back in the fold allows the staff to really go after a stud. Welcome to the Irish Mr. Mahone.
