I know your all buisy with MSU but if you could take a moment to say a prayer today for a fellow classmate of mine at Cathedral HS who shot himself on campus today. i guess the only ND connection is that john turner goes here. anyways just keep this troubled yoing man in your prayers. also, if there are any posters from the Indianapolis area, there will be a prayer service tonight at Christ The King church at 8. thanks again, god bless

he is at the hospital and stable. also, as a friend of his, i can say this had nothing to bullying, he had it very rough outside of school, school was his real home amd refuge.

I lost someone I knew the same way earlier this year. When it is a stranger it is very easy to say "what a coward" or "how selfish", but I don't think anyone who does not suffer from mental illness can understand the way impacts your ability to see things clearly. It isn't something you can just think your way through, and it isn't a matter of mental toughness or intestinal fortitude to fight through a tough situation, any more than you can think or fight your way through a physical illness like cancer. The person I knew was not a coward, nor was he selfish. He was an Iraq war veteran and was very good friend, brother, son, etc.

Unfortunately, many people still do not understand the nature or severity of mental illness. Hopefully these tragic situations do not occur in vain, and can instead be the impetus for others who are struggling with mental illness to seek help, and for those who may know someone who is struggling to understand the seriousness of it and encourage their friend or loved one to seek help.

Rhode Island: A beautiful and thought provoking post. I am one of many who does not understand the severity of mental illness except to see its consequences. I pray for those who suffer this crippling and oftentimes fatal disease. My prayers go out to the young man today. God bless and watch over him.

You have to wonder if a bothced attempt at suicide isn't really worse than immediately dying. You could wind up a vegetable or in a wheelchair the rest of your life, etc. I pity this man, and I hope he is able to recover to near perfect health. The amount of pain someone must be going through in order to do this must be beyond our ability to empathize. I can only say I wish him well and God bless him. May the Lord completely heal him and give him a new outlook on life. May he understand the love of God in his life. I think few of us truly understand it--myself included.

This is about 24 hours old, but it's the most recent news I can find:

INDIANAPOLIS - A Cathedral High School student was injured by a self-inflicted gunshot on campus Tuesday, the school confirmed.

The victim is in stable condition. Metro Police say one person was injured.

The student was alert and talking when transported.

Cathedral High School President Stephen J. Helmich said in a press release that he was alerted of the situation at approximately 2:15 pm.

The school says the male juvenile phoned into the switchboard at Cathedral and said he intended to do himself harm.

According to the school, emergency responder personnel were called and Cathedral's student safety responders immediately went to the area on campus from where the student called, and secured the area.

The school activated its safety plan by asking all students, faculty and staff to remain where they were so that emergency personnel could come on to campus and assist the young man.

No other students, faculty or staff members were in danger. The school says it sent out an email to parents before the end of the day.

At last check, the victim was in stable condition.

The school says it will provide counselors on site Wednesday.

"We are a family, and we take that responsibility seriously," said President Stephen J. Helmich. "We will continue to hold this young man and his family in our prayers."

Stable condition is very good. Could be alot worse. Sounds like he is going to do ok. I hope this young mans get the love that he needs and the help from family and friends to show him how much they care about him. By the way the article reads Stable condition means he has a great chance to live just hopefully there isn't to many lifelong injuries that he will have to fight through. God bless this family.
