Wow you guys are a bunch of little girls.

Let me see. He Puts Te'o and Floyd as All-Americans. He then says that ND's arrow is pointing up but its a tough schedule so he can't say more than 8 wins. Kelly is a great coach and they will be back with him.

Tell me what is wrong about any of that?

AA honers is not enough praise for Te'o and Floyd? ND's recent history has warranted a better prediction than 8-4?

You are a bunch of babies. Herbie is one of the best in the business. You are still upset about the High School defense. Guess what the Irish got embarrassed by Navy and the coaches knew it too.

Respect isn't given, it is earned

tOSU fans have been known to say the same thing. Herbstreit is pretty unbiased. He usually tries to find something good to say about whatever team he is talking about. But he's not afraid to be critical, when it is warranted.

Yeah and ill admit that, but its just his overall attitude i think that bothers me. He comes off as a guy i would enjoy knocking out. Also his frosted tip hair doesnt help

Herbie was one of ND's biggest supporters a few years back and constantly predicted big things from us. We did not come through and made him look bad and now I just think he needs to see it on the field before he jumps on th bandwagon again. I have no beef with him. He will be singing our praises soon enough.

Can't agree more with this post-its correct and to the point-go earn your respect. The first game will tell tons to me as I have picked this game as a loss. I still think they win 9 games. Back to espn and herbie-as for me they just do and say things to irratate the fan base. Its good for their ratings and really what he said could be said about all but 3 of the top 20 teams in the country. Its the way he says it and the overtone, he is an Ohio guy and as everyone knows when Kelly gets this machine to where he wants it Notre Dame will damn well recruit where they want to. Be prepared if Notre Dame wins the schedule is weak if they lose its I told you so. Understand the game here boys and dont let irrelavance get under your skin.

I know I've gotten into this with you before, respectfully of course. But, are you still expecting the slow starts we became accustomed to under Weis? Do you think USF is a better team athletically and coaching wise than ND? Why do you pick this as a loss? I remember you had a feeling that Lou was going to give Skip some sort of advice on how to beat ND but that's realistically not something to be worried about.

I'm just thinking that if you see USF as a loss than how do you see us winning 9 games? Do you think we stumble out of the gate and progress throughout the season to 9 wins?

You gals are starting to sound like all of those other fans of college football. "We don't get any respect!!!", etc.

To he!! with Herbstreit, ESPN, SI, The Republican Party, and the KGB. As long as the team plays like we hope they will, the END OF SEASON (the ones that count, remember?) awards lists will be overflowing with Blue and Gold.

I'll drink to that!!

Yes I think they have a hard time with a better than what you expect USF team. I also think this team is going to win 9 games. They play 12 games and I think they will win 9 times. Its just my opinion, I base it on when they play certain teams and depth. Injuries are a big part of my 'guess' and I base alot on the fact that this team still needs to learn how to play 'big' when they are favored. No person wants them to run the table more than I do and I'll be the happiest guy in town if they beat USF. USF has a pretty good o line and a QB that could be tough to deal with. The pressure is all on the Irish here and they are about to feel the load of expectation. I want to be wrong-part of going to Notre Dame as a football player is how your play under the conditions of being the favorite. Like I said I still think they win 9 games and their bowl game. As far as stumbling out of the gate-that would be losing to App State or James Madison or one of the teams the SEC plays in their first game-USF is a good football team who will come to South Bend for their shot at history.

I can respect that, thanks. I do agree with the injury worries. Any long term ones in the backfield or secondary and we are in trouble.

I have to disagree with you on USF. I think ND comes out fired up and prepared.

Not much more to add other than I think Herbstreit is one of the best in the business, and he has given love to ND in the past and we loved him. But when he doesn't predict us to go to a BCS game he's an idiot???

We sound like USC fans (if a writer says ANYTHING remotely negative about USC, he's a moron, but if he says something nice, he 'gets it'). You should have heard them post about Pac 12 blogger Ted Miller. They flip flop on him all the time...and NEVER admit that while they currently think he's the top writer in the business, just 3 months ago they were calling the guy a moron LOL.

Not every writer/sports personality loves ND, nor should they. They've been burned by us for a lonnnnng time (or they've been right for a lonnnng time while enduring our fans' hate mail LOL)...

Yeah and it's funny because he didn't even say anything wrong. The O/V by Vegas is set somewhere around 8.5 or 9... so he's just under that line. And, in my opinion, we only have 2 locks (Navy, Wake Forest) or maybe 3 if you consider Purdue a lock (which I don't).

Herbie is just another seriously delusional Ohio State alumni/ fan!! They truly believe they got a shot at the National Championship this year! Game Day will be in Southbend soon. We are on the rise and Herbie will have to come to town. Irish fans never forget!! Whos bringing the eggs??

We might have a semi-tough schedule, but if we can't navigate through that schedule and get 10 wins we aren't worthy of playing in a BCS game. I don't believe our schedule is as tough as people think. It is tough but it's not like we are playing LSU's.

No he's not. He's ripped OSU a lot on the show and picked them to lose. Shoot, our very own beloved Lou Holtz is a WAY bigger homer than Herbstreit. The people that are bagging on Herbie are the same ones who flip out when ANYONE says one thing remotely negative about ND (even when it's deserved) and believe the world is out to get us. We may be hated, but not by everyone, and not by Herbie, considering how much love he gave us in the past...

At times he has made some poorly judged comments, but, for the most part, he's the most balanced pundit out there. I generally agree with his analysis. Kirk is usually fair and objective and I'm not disappointed in what he's said. Kirk has gotten burned in the past because of suggestions on us, so I htink he's trying to temper his expectations. ND has the real ability to get to the BCS this year, but ND hasn't been able to make this step in the last twenty years. You can't fault Kirk for covering his *** in this scenario. If we start winning, Kirk will come around and shower praise on ND, of that I'm sure. For now, he's letting recent history be his barometer. Unfortunately for Herbie, we've never had a coach the quality of BK running the program, so incredible optimism for once may be warranted.

I was more appalled when on SC he said ND is a lock to win only 5 games.... he thinks they can win 8, but is only a lock for 5... to me... we are a lock for 7, should win 9

I try not to get into the ND bias argument, and I usually like Herbie, and I do respect his opinion. That said his list of top 5 wr's w/ no Michael Floyd is just ignorant. The top 3 are great those other two kids are tough as well, but they are no Michael Floyd.

Sorry Bro, disagree with you. Of all the sportscaster/announcers on EShitPN, Herbie is the one I trust the most outside of Lou (and sometimes old Coach says some pretty outlandish sh!t). What has ND proven in the last three years? Herbie is honest with his comments and only calls it as he sees it. His quote, "here is a team that lost to Navy and Tulsa." We win those games and Herbie's thoughts on this year are completely different. Am I a homer for the Irish?, you bet.... Do I think we can win more than 5 locks?, for sure... but what I think with my ND colored sunglases on and what the Irish can show me they can do this year are two different things. USF comes in with tons of speed, talent, coach, and experience. As many have said on here, USF is not a pushover and will come in to our house with huge expectations and a will to win. I do believe our season will be mirrored to how we react and play against USF.

Irish fans (and trust me, many many more Irish fans) do not have one phrase in their entire vocabulary - rebuilding stage. Regardless what many people believe or want to believe, the Irish are in a rebuilding stage with a new coach and new scheme.

I have always kind of liked Herbie. A buddy of mine waited on him in a restaurant in LA and said he was one of the coolest dudes he has ever met.

I am not surprised by the lack of ND players on his list. Thats fine. If we blow everyone away this season, I think Kirk would be the first one to point out he was wrong.

Time to prove it on the field.

If we do, I believe Herbie not only to be the first one to say it, but also I can hear his quote right now, "Let me be the first to apologize to the Irish Nation...".

Any Herbie-haters want to eat crow? I was on board with his 8-4 prediction (I said it in this thread). The guy very well maybe right (at least I hope we get 8 wins). A lot of you homers can stop hating on someone who made an objective prediction.
