To the UM fans here talking about ND playing service academies: Navy would have beaten you last year. Just sayin'..... and Air Force would have as well, so keeping talking about the service academies. They are intensely underrated. ND plays them because of tradition and because of the huge respect we have for them.

Great point. In 2010, Michigan finished 42nd, Navy 43rd, and AF 46th; those two academies were neck and neck with the skunkbears last year, so be careful who you laugh at, Magus357.

Oh, and ND finished 17th. So yes, we had a much better team last year than yours.

Just so yall know I apologize for my typos and scattered thoughts. They put my shoulder back together last night, so I'm a little fuzzy today. :)

Ha, guess y'all gotta talk smack before the game, since you haven't been able to say much afterward the last several years.

Looking to make it 5 of the last 6 and 23-15-1 overall on Sept 10.

How did I talk smack?

I was responding to a Michigan poster who laughed at us for losing to Navy; so I linked to objective statistical proof that your skunkbears weren't much better than the Middies last year.

And is it talking smack to imply that ND had a better season than UM last year? The second half of your season was a train wreck that ended up with the firing of D1ck Rod. Our defense was the best in the nation over the last four games of 2010, which is a big reason why most analysts are ranking us in the top 15 preseason.

Ha. Yall always got jokes...but you won't be saying much after you lose to ND. But hey, there's always a chance you could finally manage to beat OSU. ;)

Wonder how well Robinson will QB off a pro passing attack. I expect him to throw intercepts. Plus with our huge defensive line doubt he will surprise us with big runs. I expect Notre Dame to win by at least two touchdowns.

I watched the spring game and he looked less than comfortable making the proper reads and was mildly accurate. It's true, the key to ND success and making the jump will be D-Line play. If they can disrupt running plays and get pressure on passing plays ummmm SAY GOODNIGHT!

It always happens this time of year because of how excited everyone is. ND fans are posting things they see from USF and UM sites and Michigan fans are looking through (and clearly posting on) ND and OSU sites. It is pretty entertaining at times but overall I agree with you.

The bottom line is that the game is going to be close and exciting. Michigan fans can say what they will but if you look through the thread, some ND fans sound pretty ridiculous as well.

Personally, I like Brady Hoke. Not because he is a GREAT coach but more so because he is not Jim Harbaugh or Les Miles. They guy can recruit and the guy put a solid staff together, but he is not an elite coach by any means. I expect Michigan to be improved in all facets of the game but nothing overboard. With all of the coaching turnover we have been through we should understand that it takes more than one off-season to learn a system and then implement it successfully on the field. I like playing them early in the year and it should be exciting overall.

Couldn't agree more. My favorite thing about Hoke is that he's not Harbaugh. I praise Jeebus for that every day.

Just promise us when we beat you under the lights in Ann Arbor you guys won't take your ball and leave for 30 or so years.

Michigan still has seven undecided position battles on the defensive side of the ball. All of these tidbits are from Greg Mattison...

- Direct quote: "There's going to be games when you're going to be out there more than you have to be."

- Two deep is not complete.

- Really impressed with senior corner Troy Woolfolk.

- The corner spot opposite Woolfolk is still up for grabs. Lots of inconsistency from the battling candidates.

- Sounds like there's still inconsistency from everyone, including Mike Martin and Woolfolk.

- Intriguing quote: "When you're into your 60th or 65th play, what are you going to be like then? And that was what bothered me: I didn't see them stay the way they started out all the way through."

Sounds like they are making progress but have major consistency issues.

In 2010, the first year under Kelly, we ended up 8-5 with more talent and a better coach. I expect Michigan's 2011 season to be much like 2010 for us; visible improvement throughout the season, and perhaps even flashes of dominance, but lack of depth and inconsistency will inevitably cause them to drop a few otherwise winnable games.

They return 20 of 22 starters, but that doesn't mean a whole lot when those guys have to learn a new system.

This is what I'm thinking, too.

Give them a few years to transition and I think they'll be a powerhouse before too long.

They have something like 4 total active OL recruits in the 2010 and 2011 classes combined. That means after this year and '12 they are going to have some serious depth issues there. I don't see them being a "powerhouse" until the 2012 class is at least juniors. They have a lot of holes.

Michigan fan here...got a question for you good folks. When RR came into Ann Arbor, it was his way or the high way when it came to his "brand" of football. That did not work out for him...true story!

Now why in the sam hill would you good folks think Hoke would do the same thing he just saw fail (rushing the switch to his pro style). There is no rush.
Now what the D will do is crap shoot to be honest. I don't think we will be world beaters by any stretch of the imagination but I don't think we will be as bad as last year.

You say you have a question yet there isn't a question mark anywhere in your post...

Please state your question in a correct form, and I'll do what I can to answer it.

'Bout time I join this thread and get my hands a bit dirty too.

6 months ago I had few worries about this game, the closer we get to it though, my stomach just doesn't feel right.
It's funny, this rivalry seems to have absolutely no respect for the better team(on paper).

Amen!

Don't kid yourself, ND is a distant second (perhaps third to some fans) to osu. And we weren't good last year, just better than you.

Michigan's team was not better last year. They beat us, yes. I'm not so sure I go around bragging about a win when if Crist wasn't injured for two quarters it would have been a different story. For the record, Michigan was outscored 24-7 when Crist was the QB. Our QB was injured, yes. If the tables were turned and Denard had to sit out for 2 quarters do you really think Michigan would have been in the game? I doubt it considering Denard was in the game during the 24-7 run Crist put on you.

Go Irish!

I'll clarify for the reading impaired. The interrogative sentence was the one with the word "WHY" in it.

A question mark at the end would be grammatically correct but who, what, when, why, how tend to be tip offs even to third graders.

SHHHH...

BGIF! I was purposely ruffling his feathers. You really going to do that? haha

I didn't think I'd get blindside roasted by someone who is supposed to be on my side here.

So you're saying ND fans shouldn't brag about the win over Southern Cal last year either since the Trojan Starting QB, Barkley, was out injured for the entire game.

You're leading with your chin!

UM was the lesser team, they had the lesser coach, and they won.

Phork nailed it earlier.

They didn't have their starting QB and we didn't have ours. That's a level playing field IMO.

It really isn't. Matt Barkley is a far better quarterback than Dayne Crist.

Of course you also have to factor in injuries to Allen, Rudolph, Williams, and Calabrese.

Crist to Rees is a bigger drop off than Barkley to Mustang. How does that not figure in?
