Lax (or ISD really), busted that one. I looked at Rivals and he only has MAC offers there.

Ah, I missed that link previously then. Well, I think after coaches get wind of what he's doing in his senior season (I know we only have one game to go on for now), he will have much and more.

My buddy who works at Washington has heard rumblings that offers from IU and Illinois could be forthcoming...and that was prior to his opening night slaughter.

GEHRIG will be swamped with offers. I understand OREGON offered today.

Said a while back he should get an offer. Coaches have noted that we have weak depth at WR and we're losing at least five WRs the next two years (Floyd, Walker, Goodman, Riddick, Toma) I say bring in 4 WRs. We have two already, add Dieter and some slot guy and then obviously hold a spot for DGB.

GEHRIG seems to be Ok with a 3.5 GPA and voted student athlete twice.

Has played LB/S/CB besides WR---------his recruiting is heating up.

The fact of the matter is the staff has several prospects higher than their board.

He had a great game, I'm not discounting that. But, there are reasons that BCS teams have not offered Gehrig yet. That can change, but people who do this stuff for a living don't feel like he is at that level yet.

Does this situation remind anyone else of the Heggie situation? Too many other big fish on the board to offer this kid right now.

Dieter looked great last night and he and Perkins really complement each other. I see ND only offerering him if we don't land any of the bigger names we are after. If he plays like he did last night all year Dieter's stock will grow.

I don't think any one knew of Heggie before he commited, this kid seems to be more of a question mark tho, great numbers and looks to have the built for a BCS school... But lacking the offers to make everyone feel good about him

I'll tell you what... I don't think there is a person here who wouldn't take dieter over, say, Massa as a WR. This is where ND will always be at a competitive disadvantage to the Alabamas of the world. Alabama would've just cut him once we signed Golson. Instead, we're in an number crunch where we have to be very selective between guys like Darboh, Dieter, etc.

**No, we should never change to being an Alabama where we treat kids like pieces of meat. But I think it's important to look at situations like this and realize that this (and JUCOs) are why ND fights such an uphill battle with the 85 scholarship limit against football factories. Mike Martin, Luke Kuechly, etc. etc. There are always going to be kids who can play getting left out do to numbers... and we just have to deal with it.

I'm on the fence about Dieter but I'd sacrifice, let's say, an offer to John Turner for Dieter. Of the two I think Dieter has much more to offer at the D1 level.

No, not at all. No one had heard of Heggie until The Polish Irishman opened up a Recruit Profile on 1/28/10. At that time Heggie's only offers were as a Preferred Walkon. Heggie didn't get an ND until 1/31, 2 days before he signed an LOI for ND.

Heggie went from unknown to ND Signee in 5 days. Dieter still has almost 5 months to NSD and is making his mark on the field!

When TPI opened Heggie's profile, Bruce had already completed his Senior season and hadn't set records. Dieter has in the first game of his senior season. Scout and ESPN hadn't evaluated Heggie 5 days before NSD. Rivals had him as a 2 Star TE.

There are other big fish on the board. The probability of quite a few of them ending up at ND is dubious. Quite a few of them are taking a wait and see attitude which works well for Dieter. If he continues to impress his senior campaign the gap will close and some of those fish will find other ponds.

A wise man posted a Mencken quote in Heggie's profile:

Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit upon his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats

Dieter slit a number of throats last night with his hands and feet.

Time will tell. He's a tad shorter and a tad slower BUT like Shark, he can move after the catch.

Shark's 40 was listed at 4.4 to 4.5. 40's can vary but Dieter's are listed at 4.5 to 4.6 (4.57 at "11 ND Camp). Shark might get a slight edge here altought I don't recall if his times were recorded at camps and combines. Dieter's has.

Shark's FINAL Rankings
Rivals :s::s::s:, #43 WR
Scout :s::s::s::s:, #25

Dieter's Rankings BEFORE his Senior Season.
Rivals: :s::s::s:, NR WR
Scout: :s::s::s:, , #89 WR
ESPN: :s::s:, #161 WR, Grade 71
247: :s::s::s:, NR WR, Rating 87

Not to be a hater, but if I'm being completely honest, I expected 373 yards to look far more impressive.

Prime example of why high school production is worthless as an indicator of individual skill. That defense was atrocious.

That white team may be the worst high school football team I've ever seen. Clearly, Gehrig was the best player on the field that day, so he certainly should get some credit there. But wow.
