scout has us with two 5 *'s? guessing Darby and shep by rivals rankings ( im sure ill be corrected if im wrong).

Correct.

And the way tay is killing these 7 on 7's i wouldnt be surprised if he rockets up 30-40 spots from the early 100's in the top 150 and gets a 5th star. Seen that he might project even higher at safety than at WR.

247 currently has 21 5:s:s, Rivals has 17, and ESPN only has 8.

Scout might very well give Tay B a 5th :s:, as he's their 6th WR. But the other services currently rank Greenberry 209th, 115th, and 147th respectively. He'd have to make a tremendous jump to gain a 5th :s: from any of them.

very true, but they still have the whole senior year to improve, usually 7 on 7's feature the best all stars from the area. and when he's winning MVP's @ (WR) AND (S) i'll say to hell with how many stars or where he sits in the top 150, you're getting a mighty fine player.

Good pick up for them. Probably the second best player in their class.

No offense to anyone here, but........... I couldn't care less about recruiting. I'll take 2and 3 star kids winning 10 games a year over a bunch of 4 and 5 stars going 7-5 every year.

I'll coach the team with all the 4-5 stars and you take the one with 2-3 stars and we'll see who has a better resume after 5 years.

I like how Kelly seems to get good kids

I don't want to go with the RKG thing, but it's valid. You can have all 5* recruits, but if there isn't cohesiveness, it won't work. You need the role players. Having too many 5*'s can be a problem. Too many egos.

if there is one thing i wish Brian Kelly never said it would be "RKG"

Like any good politician, much of what Kelly describes in front of the cameras is specifically crafted for public consumption. Concepts like "RKG" and his "Power/ Big Skill/ Skill" designations are far too simplistic to actually be useful in evaluating potential recruits, but they're easy for Kool-Aid drinkers to grasp and parrot.

I still don't see why people are soo obsessed with Hoke and the job he's doing recruiting up in Ann Arbor. D-Rod left a grease fire up there and hoke has a ton of holes to plug. We weren't any different when CW took over and now BK.besides that, it bodes us well to have the Skunkbears mentioned with the words good, and powerhouse. Same goes for Southern Cal, although that's for another thread and as long as they have goatboy, they're not beating us.

Whatever man. You're over analyzing things. Sign up 20 Big-Power-Skill RKGs in this class, sit back and watch us win a national championship every year. It's really that simple.

Really?

Really?

I'd have to go with, "Hey Tommy, let's throw one in the endzone here so we don't have to kick this field goal."

I agree with you though. RKG is becoming Kelly's decided schematic advantage.

Maybe this was covered, but it doesn't seem like ND is going after OSU defections. How did we miss out on Kalis - Catholic boy from St. Edwards?

I don't think the staff liked Kalis as much as some of our other options. We have a legit shot at a lot of elite offensive lineman.

A big difference between St. Edward and St. Ignatius too. If he were out of St. Iggy Notre Dame would have been in the discussion in my opinion.

Out of sheer curiosity/ignorance on my part, why is there a Ignatius-ND connection? I understand they have a powerhouse football program, but St. Eds is a sister school with some recent success on the gridiron (2010 D1 state title). Perhaps this will change if St eds keeps it up?

Day's commitment gives us 5 out of 13 commits in the ESPNU 150. Michigan has 3 out of 22. I'm convinced we'll finish with the better class.

Pretty solid player with a good offer list. Michigan is closing strong. I wonder how big this class is going to be... they're already at 22.

They got someone outside of Michigan/Ohio!!!!

If we had more UM trolls here they would be bragging about Hoke killing it on national level.

Of those 22, 8 appear to be offensive players. 5 O linemen 2 TEs and 1 unranked RB. This has been noted before, but while being a very impressive defensive haul, the lack of offensive skill players should be a bit disconcerting for Michigan fans.

I agree with you in the fact that they need a few skill guys to add to their class on Offense. But you have to give it to them, they have a nice haul along the Offensive Line with Kalis and Magnuson leading the bunch.

As suspsected following Schuttgate, Michigan picks up the committment of Ondre Pipkins today.

Same height, 6-3, as Schutt but 25 pounds heavier at 325. Roughyl similar bench and squat with Pipkins having a 3 inch higher leap at 29.

Pipkins
Rivals: :s::s::s::s:, #19 DT, #246 National
Scout: :s::s::s::s:, #12 DT
ESPN: :s::s::s:, #45 DT
247: :s::s::s::s:, #15 DT, #149 National

Schutt
Rivals: :s::s::s::s:, #5 DT, #29 National
Scout: :s::s::s::s::s:, #6 DT
ESPN: :s::s::s::s:, #12 DT, #133 National
247: :s::s::s::s:, #9 DT, #51 National

Rivals has a feature on the right hand side of a recruit's profile where they list 3 "Similar" recruits at the same position. One of Pipkins 3 similars is Sheldon Day.
