I'd think with his motor, he's going to be doing a lot of run stuffing and blitzing from the ILB spot.

It fits his measurables much better for this defense.

I totally agree. I feel Shembo fits this spot well too. Both guys are great at getting to the QB, but their measurables, imo, project them at ILB. That frees up Councell/Niklas/Williams on the outside. I see Spond in the middle as well based on measurables. Assuming they can bulk up and stuff the run.

Starting at ILB. Love. It.

I've been saying it for how long now?

Edit: And so have you TT, don't get me wrong.

Not a lot of high school teams have the luxury of taking a guy Rabassa's size off the DLine and starting him at LB when a lot of smaller kids coulds contribure at LB. Its not only the athleticism that gets questioned, its the fact that you lose those years of learning the position intutively.

Nonetheles, I agree that he seems like a great fit at ILB with Grace; he's kind of like a taller (less artistic) Calabrese.

I do view it more of a "good problem", in the fact that we have so much talent at OLB that can get after the passer. Another thing I think Anthony does extremely well is use his hands to "stack and shed" blockers, which should definitely help in defending the run as TT mentioned.

When Manti leaves, we will still be loaded on the edges [Ishaq + Niklaus + say, Okwara at CAT, and Spond + Councell + say, Perkins at DOG ---- I'm trying to "fit" the speed and power sets to the positions in my foggy way]. But who goes in the middle?? If we're going to get the best athletes on the field, my opinion is that they are Shembo and Rabasa. Grace and Moore are good-to-go back-ups, and [am I right?] board favorite [but not mine except as a humorous knucklehead personality] Carlo would be a senior? Also Utupo? Whatever, my view of the outside is star-studded, but unless guys like Prince and Anthony go inside, not so much there [Grace may well be that good too, but I'd like to hear a lot more].

So, Terry and I have been rooting for Anthony in the middle since the start of June, and so, since it's Terry, I must be right for once.

Prince isn't going anywhere, if he is penciled in as one of two for starter this year as DOG. That is an incredibly special skill set. Shembo, Spond, and the third is Councell. Not that much depth there. None of those guys are out of there. Notice the speed Shembo showed last year, we know Councell is fast, and Spond was a QB (that could run) on a state championship team at Columbine. (All three hit like freight trains, too.)

Also, you forget about Fox, and BK said in yesterday's press conference, McD and Pos are not done either.

Finally, remember Moore was singled out last fall and this spring for the job he did . . .

Here is a picture I just saw that I posted under Tuitt's thread:

Here is a picture commonly posted on NDNation, that shows Tuitt. Tell me he's not in shape. He almost dwarfs Nix! But the real surprise is Rasaba - holy sh!t! He is almost as big as Tuitt, and really put together. Can you imagine him as a MLB?

I was a little confused by this. Could you elaborate on the reasoning behind a medical red shirt not being a possibility?

Where are you seeing this? Just today BK said that Rabasa hasnt had his surgery yet, but he will soon. Also no mention of not being able to apply for a medical redshirt??

The radio show I listened to today mentioned that he had his surgery today, and that it was too late in the year for a medical redshirt. Has he played any special teams?

No. He can take a normal RS year.

ND does not redshirt unless you take grad school.

Ugh. Semantics. I do appreciate the distinction, but I think you know what everyone meant. In practice, it is basically the same thing. When was the last time a player and the team both wanted the player to come back for a 5th year but he couldn't get into grad school? Maybe that happens, but if it does I am blanking on examples.

I believe Kelly said yesterday is his post practice media session that Rabassa would have his surgery "within the next few days."

Even Kelly and his staff refer to the process as "red shirting". As Rhode pointed out, it's semantics.

Kelly has even joked about the silliness of the term "redshirt" being taboo at ND. He said it once during a press conference, stopped abruptly and looked around, then said something like "I'm going to get an e-mail about that...." then kept on with his answer. The media present all broke out laughing. Its like the Army insisting that there is no Delta Force.

Has anyone heard anything on Rabassa's surgery and how he is progressing. I haven't heard anything since his injury.
