Because there was so much action I thought ND was back in the mix. But I guess it's a big deal if he chooses IU, Bama or Oklahoma to some people. Carry On.

He's the top rated QB in this class, so he's going to generate interest regardless of where he's leaning.

He was also considering UM and Oklahoma. News implying that the top ranked QB in this class isn't going to a major rival or to the toughest team on our schedule in two of the next three years is relevant to Irish fans.

I agree with bish on this one. Not sure what the fascination with this is all about. If ND were in on him, I wouldn't care if there was a new post in this thread every 2 minutes for the next 6 months. But I keep seeing his thread up at the top of the front page for no apparent reason. I don't see this happening with other recruits.

Gunner Kiel talks recruiting - ESPN

As always not a lot of info from Kiel. Says he won't go to a team that already has a quarterback (we're still in it!--no w'ere not), so does that rule Oklahoma out?

No mention of Notre Dame in the article, but he talks about Indiana. He's going to Indiana.

If he is not going to a school that already has a QB then he is not going to school. :)

. . . Says he won't go to a team that already has a quarterback . . .

. . . He's going to Indiana.

Umm....isn't his brother the next QB in line at Indiana?

"I don't want to go compete for playing time. I'd rather just take it from my brother..."

Nice.

The Kiels are supposed to be a super close-knit family. I'm sure his brother would be happy to play alongside him. I remember watching his brother play. Not impressive at all. Gunner is the best QB prospect since Matt Barkley. He'd win any competition he went in to. He's just giving reasons for why he's about to pick IU.

This kid seems to have all the tools and talent in the world, but he doesn't seem to have that "it" factor that I want in my football players, especially quarterbacks.

His brother is not the next in line at IU, he is a career backup. Gunner has way more potential/upside/ability/whatever term you want to use.

Obviously Gunner is better than Dusty. My point was that Indiana's starting QB is gone, and Dusty had more passing attempts last year than anyone left on Indiana's team. He would be in the mix to compete for the starting job. Obviously, if Gunner goes to Indiana he is the starter.

My point was he could go anywhere in the country and play, and he wants to go take his brother's job in a laughingstock program in a mediocre conference. Like I said, not my kind of kid.

He wants to stay close to his family and play for Kevin Wilson who coached a former #1 pick and a player who will go top 15 this upcoming year (Landry Jones). He's a phenomenal player and he'll take the laughingstock label off of IU football.

Good for him (/non-sarcasm). He should do what makes him happy. I'm sure he will be a huge boost to Indiana's football program both on the field and in the public perception of it. I really am happy for the kid if he is making a decision that is most in line with his priorities. And, from a ND perspective, if this is what he wants then it proves he wouldn't have been a good fit anyways.

I'd love to see Indiana go about .500 each year and upset top Big Ten teams than go to OU or Alabama and win. This would knock Big Ten teams that could potentially be in front of ND in BCS rankings and this would also not help powerhouse teams like OU and Alabama win. ( If you get what I'm saying.....)

I was talking to a QB coach who has now sent 4 guys to the pros. He was helping coach up Gunner at a camp or something. He says he is fantastic, but he thinks it would be a shame for a kid with such great mechanics to play in the shotgun spread all the time.

As a true college football fan I'm torn... I love that a five star stud is going to a small time school to try and build them up, but then again it just sounds like the kid was scared of actual competition. Don't roast for me that; it's just how the decision comes off as to me.

Understandable, but I think Kevin Wilson coaching up Bradford to a #1 pick and proximity to home/family had a lot to do w/ it

Kiel's uncle, 4 year starter at ND, put himself in some trouble in the past couple of years. Great guy. Hopefully he can fix things.

Wowww...honestly did not expect this outcome. I was thinking he was carrying Indiana along for the ride like Seantrel did with Minnesota and such. Good for him. Would be cool to see Indiana become a football contender.

Great news. Keeps him away from Oklahoma and Indiana will never have the pieces around him to make them a power. I hope he does for Indiana what Tim Couch did for Kentucky.

Does this mean Purdue eventually becomes the B10's new bottom feeder? #loveit
