Hope there is something that Kelly and Diaco know that's not obvious. This guy is right in Virginia Tech's wheelhouse, as they have players from his school on their roster, and he is being recruited by their stud All-American [and superbowl winner] defensive lineman, Corwin Brown. Seems like a lot to overcome.

Kirven also seems more made for a 3-4DE or a DT on a 4-3 to me than a nose tackle, but ....?? Nevertheless, he is a VERY impressive athlete, and I wouldn't mind stealing him out of the state.

From the Duke Nike Camp, per 24/7:

Kirven, the nation’s No. 10 defensive tackle prospect according to 247Sports, has excellent size and displayed great pass rushing moves and good overall strength during the one-on-one portion of the camp. Kirven also showed why he has an extensive offer list during position work, when it was clear that the 6-foot-4, 280-pounder had elite athleticism for a prospect his size. Virginia, Virginia Tech, Alabama, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Stanford, Rutgers and others all have offered

Regardless if he'll fill out into a 3-4 NT or have to play end, you gotta sign-up an athlete like this any chance you get! I love how we are targeting/getting players from VA, NC, FL, CA, et cetera like crazy.

According to some local coaches he is extremely underrated and will be a huge pickup for whoever gets him. Said his raw ability is "just about as good as it gets." Supposedly best suited for a 4-3 DT... but we'll see. No information on which way he is leaning, but it's a good sign with him coming to campus.

Looking good here. Not to get hopes up too much because he has offers from a lot of top schools but we sent two coaches down to VA to see him a couple days ago. We should be in this until the end.

247 has an article up with him trimming his list to 8. I have no access but I know ND, UVa, Tech and Alabama are going to be in. Have heard from people that we would be in his his top 3 with the Virginia schools... with Alabama also likely to get a visit and be a big player depending on how their other recruiting efforts go for prospects they're targeting. Anyone with access want to share who the others are? I'm guessing Duke and Stanford + 2.

Also, could be wrong on this, but I've heard we're potentially recruiting him as a DE not DT but that the staff thinks he could possibly have the frame to be developed into a DT should they choose to go that route and bulk him up. Just rumblings, nothing based on good facts/sources.

Pretty shocked to hear that. Everyone thought Alabama would be in it to the end, I don't think anyone thought they would be named a leader at this point.

I wonder if we cooled on him because we think we land 2 of Day/Jones/Schutt. I know I'm personally much higher on Day after The Opening. Does **** me off though that we're no longer in the running (it seems) because I've heard many a person rave about Kirven's upside.

His dad still says they are trying to set an OV oddly enough per BGI.

"Pllleeeaaassee take my boy!!"

If a kid has an offer from a school but they don't "want" (Day/Schutt) them anymore can they turn down an OV request?

Of course; OVs are on Notre Dame's dime.

Way back when it looked like Day and Kirven were almost twin talents in a lot of people's minds. Both ND and VT were after them hard. That Day chose ND and that has created other seismic shifts seems logical to me. Particularly the Kirven=VT lock part.

His father says he will definitely visit ND most likely in December.

After passing on Schutt, if we take Kirven, I will be lost completely.

I think he's a 3-4 DE not NT

I don't care what the reasoning is. I understand they are not being recruited for the same position but the reason given was they were done recruiting the defensive line. In my opinion, unless there was something additional off the field, we may have made a mistake here. I support Kelly and this staff 100% and I'm not calling for anyone's job, I'm just not a fan of this move. I wasn't when it was originally made and I'm not now.
