Yea. Idk. Every week it was a debate whether they should go Jefferson or lee. Now than mettenburg is there, jefferson is going to be under an insane amount of pressure. I think mettenburg will be starting if they slip up one or have a couple of close games in a row. It's gonna be fun to see though. I think this is the year Notre dame proves they are on their way back

I honestly think crist and golson will be awesome. Golson is a Notre dame version of denard except he's a way better passer already. I think Kelly has us on track to get back to the top.

Sad but true! I am an Indiana native, but live in Tennessee now, and let me tell you, there is not much love for our Irish here. ND fans here are laughed at, and told that ND is no longer relevant....

Oh well. I can't control what other people think and don't want to. Also, anything resembling thought south of the Mason Dixon line is pretty suspect anyway.

Once ND starts winning, everything else will take care of itself.

Lol really dude? Navy has had one of he best offenses in te country th last 3 years. And I'm lmao that you're trying to undermine my intelligence right now because I said they could beat most of the sec teams? It's my opinion I was stating it like everyone else is on these threads. If you don't like it don't then read my posts. Simple enough

Young padawan these are Navy's stats from the past three years; would you like to recant your statement?....and remember, you're still under oath....

I don't think that the SEC is a joke anywhere. I have been an Irish fan since the age of 6, I will be 50 this football season. I have lived in SEC country most of my life. True, many of their fans are rather full of themselves. Many have been laughing at the Irish. But, who's fault is that? ND has hired a series of mediocre coaches, and saying that, is being generous. For years ND broke it off in the SEC's collective asses and I rubbed it in to my southern buddies. Especially the years we whooped Alabama. However, I have been taking a lot of BS lately, I relish the time when the tables are turned back in my favor. We can do it again, but we have to do it on the field an we won't do it by pretending the SEC is a joke.

Young padawan these are Navy's stats from the past three years; would you like to recant your statement?....and remember, you're still under oath....

Diz

In the words of Lee Corso... not so fast!

Navy's yards per possession and effective offense were quite good... they have far less possessions per game than, say, a throw it all over the field Houston team.

For instance, Navy was #18 in in yards per play... and probably somewhere well into the top ten in yards per possession but I can't find that statistic online and am too busy at work to calculate it for all of the teams manually.

ND laid a scramble egg against Navy. No argument. I give Navy a lot of credit for execution and overachieving but they weren't playing teams the caliver of Michigan, Michigan St, Stanford and Southern Cal (or the SEC). Let's put it in perspective, Navy's schedule is a collection of bottom tier programs.

Navy '10 Opponents with Sagarin Rating
19 ND
34 SDS
37 AF
72 Ga So Div 1AA
73 Army
83 SMU
85 ECU
88 FIU
91 LA Tech
95 Duke
102 WF
117 Ark St
134 CMU

The statement that prompted the Navy stats was "Navy has had one of he best offenses in te country th last 3 years." Even with the weak schedule they play they are not one of the best. Finishing 32nd, 57th, and and 59th out of 120 teams gives them an average place of 49th. Hardly "one of the best". Near the bottom of the top half, Navy barely makes it into the "better" category.

They may have one of the best running attacks but clearly NOT one of the best offenses.

Come on dude. I never said ND didn't lay a "scrambled egg" (which they did)... my point was that these blanket offensive rankings (32nd, 57th, 59th) mean basically nothing with regards to how effective their offense was.

On a per play basis (where a run-first option team like Navy is at an inherent disadvantage to throw-first teams) they still finished 18th last year. On a per possession basis, I have no doubt Navy's offense ranks well into the top 10.

Is Navy a world-beater offensive juggernaut? No. Should we have been able to stop them? Absolutely. But people blasting the newbie poster citing extremely flawed statistics as their only basis is quite comical.

Wow I love how a rip the SEC thread quickly became a rip the south thread. Well I live in the south and I wear my ND hat everyday, and not one person has ever had a bad thing to say, except in fun. We wonder why everyone else thinks ND fans are Elitist Douche Bags, if I was them and read this thread I would too. Its a shame to let your football bias, dictate your feelings for a region of your own country.

i feel like notre dame has got to prove itself every 10 yrs or so... all programs have bad years back to back etc. ,but with us as soon as there is smoke the sportsworld wants to believe the worst...

i lived in texas not sec and i'll tell the truth it was brutal and to anyone who ever wanted to be great at football i loved the hard work... long story short moved to arkansas and played against with the worst athletes i've ever seen... now theres a few here and there, but in texas we lived for football from childhood and hard work.. been an ND fan since i was 7 in texas... i love this schools football tradition nothing can compete..

Until ND can consitantly win New Years Day, BCS Bowls, and National titles year in and year out and as long as the SEC keeps winning the majority of those BCS bowls, National titles etc we have no room to talk. The last time we played an SEC team (unless im forgetting something ND stats are losing room in my memory for info for my summer math class) we were humiliated and it was the begining of charilie's downward spiral and a horrible way to say goodbye to quinn and shark.

This goes for any fan of any team other than ND. I live in Illinois and because of how our team has had embarassing losses to Navy the last few years fighting effin illini fans think they can brag about how much better they are than ND. While I do feel feel better about Kelly forgive me for not drinking the kool aid on us being able to hang with any big time program just yet.

We came a long way in our last 4 games. To us who love ND football and know the most about the goings on Utah, USC, and the Sun Bowl were big deals. However to most other people including SEC and stupid fighting illini fans I have to hear it from all we did was beat an overrated mid major team who came off a dimoralizing loss, a weaker service academy, the worst usc team in 5 years playing with a backup qb, and a coachless miami team in a worthless pre new years bowl.

In college football you can never say never, you never know what rules may be instituted (ex. the potential of a playoff), what scandals can rock a powerhouse team down to nothing (OSU), and what special player and coach combination can take a middle of the road program to great heights (Luck at Stanford). We may rise again but until I see the rise I will just think of us as a good team with potential and not think we can hang with anyone.
Im sorry to any mods if this was long or got off subject but I thought about writng this as a blog but thought it could fit this thread and besides I only want ND fans reading my thoughts not and elitist fans of other teams ;)

Yup all we have is SEC football. Now pass that along to the rest of the country so people stop moving here by the thousands.

^^^+1^^^

Have so many people from the north moving to Nashville it's not countable. Two families in the last year from Michigan and Ohio. Both stating for the same reason, friendlier atmosphere and cheaper taxes.....

LOL. I'm an Army guy who decided to settle down in Nashville as well. I spent nearly seven years at Fort Campbell just up the road and I have always loved Nashville so I decided this was the place to be for me. The weather isn't quite as harsh as Indianapolis either and it is a little cheaper as well. I have found that the people here are genuine and warm and accept me just fine even though I am originally from the north and I still proudly support my Notre Dame gear down here and don't give a damm what anyone thinks or says. At least Tennessee Football has had a down couple of years as well so not too many people talk smack for the most part.

Thank you for your service.

You know as well as I do that on certain days, certain people and certain attitudes, you never going to know who or what attitude you are going to get. For the most part, I have never been happier here with football fans. There are some fans that I turn and walk away when I see them coming!!!! But I'm sure I have filled them full of $hit at one time or another as well!!!

I know what you mean. For the most part most people are pretty down to earth and cool here in Nashville. You always have some knuckleheads here and there but I guess that could be said just about anywhere in the country. I like to give certain annoying people crap at times, so that means at times I have to receive it as well. I take it all in good grace.

they all respect all our championships etc. but one is a SEC freak henry the arkansas fan it's funny b/c arkansas is the worst team in the SEC..

in arkansas we have a fan club in little rock and three guys at my work have tats. of ND i have met tons of fans here not to many dislike us... my friend reggie on bad yrs told me he thought ND has tough schedules every yr when i was talking to him.. so we do have love..

??? You said ANY SEC team. Now you're saying how many? 4? That's a far cry from 11. And you are sorely, sorely underestimating Arkansas.

As for the Navy excuses, please tell me you are joking. First of all, Williams was injured in the 3rd quarter, and Calabrese didn't start the last 4 games and we were fine. And anyway, are you effing kidding me? You're using injuries as an excuse against NAVY?????? We should beat Navy with our friggin' eyes closed. And you use the Crist was injured excuse against Tulsa and Michigan, but he was completely healthy against Navy and we got clobbered...to friggin' Navy!!!

And guess what...injuries happen to everyone. It's part of the game. You think ND is the only team to have injuries? USC had their best 2 players out against us...Matt Barkley and Tyron Smith. Does that mean our victory shouldn't count?

Sorry dude, but your premise that we could handle 11 SEC teams is ridiculous. I agree that we'll be a helluva lot better this year, but please, for all ND fans' sakes, do not go spewing around town that ND could handle all 11 SEC teams and that we lost to Navy because of injuries. You'll get (deservedly) laughed out of town...

I like his enthusiasm.
