Gotcha, just misunderstood because when you quoted in your original post, it only grabbed the part with his twitter name, and not his comment.

Now back on topic, I think if we end up pulling 2 stud RBs like everyone if hoping for, it is going to end up being Mahone and the other Marshall, Byron...which I would be totally psyched about. Keith is a special talent, but I dont know that we have a realistic shot with him or DGB. I think he is intrigued by ND, but in love with the Southeast. All that being said, a 10+ win season with a great year by Cierre changes everything.

I might have to agree with you there.

But I'm a big Byron Marshall fan though so I would definitely be psyched.

Even thought we might not still be in the running for Keith Marshall, I'll be very happy with either Mahone or Byron Marshall.

Have family who have seen Keith play some, and he has terrific breakaway speed, but he is not as strong in the legs as Marcus Lattimore whom I saw play 5 times down here in SC. He wont break tackles like Lattimore and get you 7 yards when you thought he would only get 2. Still, he is a good back. But I think we'll be just fine if we land either of the other 2.

I can understand why some people on this board might think Marshall's full of himself because of some of his tweets. However, I really think its unfair for us to really say that he needs to be grounded wherever he goes because we dont know him personally. Im sure hes a great kid and really want him at ND.

Our current RB, Mr. Cierre Wood, is a cocky, cocky kid. He also seems like a pretty good kid. I guarantee you Keith and Cierre would have some pretty funny arguments about who was the best RB in the country.

Agree, I personally think its great for players to be cocky. Heck in a game like football you need to be. They say Greenberry is a ruthless trash talker during 7 on 7's that makes for a better player sometimes.MIND F***

Cierre cocky? No. Supremely confident in his abilities? Certainly!

I think in today's society and its political correct self, believe that being cocky has overtaken the term confident. If I know I am good at something I will definitely be confident. Other's will certainly term me cocky, though.

I blame social media. Confidence bordering on arrogance is to be expected for most of these guys; but to constantly broadcast it via twitter can really start to grate on people.

These kids need a class on how to use social media as a Division I football player.

That was my point. The confidence/ arrogance isn't new. It's the social media that's now broadcasting it 24/7; that's what gets to some people.

Note that I'm not one of said people.

Hmm...Dave Debusschere?

Greg Maddux?

Anyway, I like my running backs cocky as hell.

Man, I hated the RB on my HS team. He was good (broke his brother's record for most career school rushing yards), but he was still an a-hole.

There is nothing wrong with an athlete that walks the fine line of being confident and being cocky. As long as the athlete is a hard worker it doesn't rub people especially their teammates the wrong way.

Yep. And Sweetness always came across as humble.

If an athlete is too cocky, to the point of narcissism, sometimes some linemen may oops on a block.

Too funny. That comment about Rocket just came out of the blue.

You don't get to where Maddux was without believeing you are the best pitcher in the game. Thats ego

Believing you're the best pitcher in the game doesn't mean you have a large ego or that you're egotistical. For players like Maddux there was a giant chasm between ego and confidence in one's self. Unless, you want to get all Freud on us, in which case we'll probably be running around in circles.

Believing your the best in the world at anything is ego. It's inherent in every athlete, thats what drives them. Phil Hughes thinks he is the best pitcher in the world if he were being honest. Just because he doesn't beat his chest and goes around carrying a WWF championship belt does not mean he doesn't have an ego. I remeber reading stories about how much smack Smoltz, Maddux , and Glavine would talk to each other on the field and on the golf course because each thought they were the best at everything they did.
