ND Makes Odenigbo's Top Five

Thursday, 30 June 2011
Brian Town

When Ifeadi Odenigbo (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) came to Notre Dame’s Junior Day back in February he was left speechless. He promised the Irish staff he would return soon with his parents so they could experience everything he experienced. That time has come.

The parents are going to really like the ND package, just like the rest of em. If we don't sell them.. he's all Stanford.

During Mike Farrell's chat today, when asked about Odenigbo, he said ND will benefit the most here from OSU's troubles. I would love this young man to be Irish.

Stanford needs to stumble out of the gates.

A loss to 'Zona would be good.

They'd better lose to 'Zona, because that looks like the only potential loss until USC in late October.

Eh... I think we already have the next Fleming. And his name is David Perkins.

Fleming: 6'2" 230 4.6
Perkins: 6'2" 210 4.5

I hate when you guys call me out on a statement and make me do additional work! I went according to their scout.com profile.

Scout.com: Darius Fleming Profile

Flemming: 6'2", 230, 4.57

Strengths: Agility, Athleticism, Speed

Scout.com: Ifeadi Odenigbo Profile

Ifeadi Odenigbo: 6'3.5", 217, 4.5

Strengths: Change of direction (sononymous with agility?), Athleticism, Speed

They even look alike! Suck it!, Lol.

Yeah their schedule sets up very nice early on. I still think they stumble down the stretch. I see potential losses to @ Arizona, @ USC, @ Oregon State, vs. Oregon, vs. Cal, vs. Notre Dame. A lot of tough games at the end of the year.

Recruiting Week In Review

By Joe Bradshaw
July 8

Ifeadi Odenigbo, OLB, 6-4, 213, Centerville High School, Centerville, OH visited Notre Dame in February for the Irish’s Junior Day and left tremendously impressed. At the time, he promised to return with his parents. He hopes to fulfill that promise on July 26th when he plans to return with his family. He wants them to experience what he did in February.

I’m planning on visiting Notre Dame on July 26th,” the Ohio standout commented. “As of right now, I’m about 90 percent sure that I will be making the trip, and my parents will be coming with me.”

Odenigbo clearly places a high value on education as evidenced by his top five and recent West Coast tour. He recently visited the University of California-Berkeley and Stanford. Along with Notre Dame, his other top schools are his home state school of Ohio State and Northwestern. His visits have given him much to consider and has forced him to delay any college decision.

I have a feeling it’s still going to be a while until I make my decision,” he explained. “I was a little concerned that if I didn’t commit early and ended up getting injured, that all my scholarships might be pulled. I was able to speak to other top recruits and they said if you were borderline that could possibly happen, but I spoke to Wayne Lyons while I was at Stanford and he told me he tore his MCL his senior year of football and all of his scholarship offers still stood by him. That was even after he missed six weeks of football. With that being said I might take my time and make sure I make the right decision.”

As for ND I don't ever recall hearing of a scholarship being pulled do to a HS injury. Aldridge, Ragone, Levoir, Eifert seems like every summer somebody reports in a cast. In the early 90's Damian Peters broke his neck in a swimming pool before arriving at ND. He never played a down of football again but ND honored the scholarship.

Per 24/7's 'Friday's 10 Best' following The Opening:

8-Ifeadi Ogenigbo, DE, Dayton (Ohio) Centerville

At 6-foot-3, 212 pounds, Ogenigbo doesn’t have the size that a Casher has, but he’s extremely tough to block because of his speed and athleticism. Ogenigbo probably will have to make a transition to playing in space at the next level, something that he will likely be able to do with no problem considering his quickness and ability to shed blocks. His recruitment is wide open. Ohio State, Oregon, Alabama and others all are in the mix. 247sports ranks Ogenigbo the No. 1 overall prospect in the Buckeye State and we honestly haven’t seen a better player from that state in this recruiting cycle.

The Opening: Friday Top 10

Will this be his second or third time on campus? Don't you get the feeling it is like he is giving us one last chance to make a push before he picks Stanford? That's the feeling I have at least.

I think it will be his second....that's my assumption.

I understand what you're saying but with the fact that he is still visiting is what I like. Anything can change.

Why does everyone assume we have no shot here? He's taking an UOV, on his own dime... Must be a chance.
