That has got to be a hand time...right? If he's hittin' 4.2s electronic we HAVE to get this kid.

Hell, we have to get this kid regardless.

4.2 is believable with hand timers It might be a little exaggerated

Doesn't really matter. Bottom line is that he is fast. But a 4.22 is almost surely not "accurate." Ronald Darby is the best evidence against Marshall running a true 4.22.

While you can't trust reported 40 times, track times are very quantifiable. I was an all-district sprinter in HS with my main event being the 55m dash and ran at the same events as Darby being from the DC area. Ronald Darby is an elite track athlete who ran a 6.28 55m dash. That time is mind-blowing. For reference, the American record for professional sprinters in the 55m dash is around 6.0 seconds.

So Darby, who with training and development could maybe be a world-class sprinter, is clocked at running a FAT 4.31 40 yard dash. The chances of Marshall being .1 faster than Darby (which is huge in terms of relative speed) is slim to none.

Also another side note, I'm pretty sure Darby had the fastest 55m dash time in the nation as a junior. At least that's what I heard through the grapevine.

The meter to yard conversion is roughly 1.09 yards/meter.

55 meters is not the same as 40 yards.

Marshall may be quicker than fast. He could very well smoke Darby off the line.

Best life story: I ran a 4.69 40. (Best time I ever had. Consistent 4.7 guy.)
My best buddy ran a 4.5. I always ran against him.

In ten yards, he was my bitch.

He was my mike, and I his will.

I was "quicker." To this day he admits it.

He played for UTEP. I flirted with walking on at NMSU. (and then I dropped out of my first semester.) He starred in DIII Nebraska after leaving UTEP prior to tearing his achilles.

I'll agree, speed is king. But quick is great and translates well on the field and the 40 is a great measurement not necessarily relevant to track.

Oh I don't doubt any of that. I was always quicker than faster and killed everyone out of the blocks. There was literally no one I have ever run against who could beat me in the first 20.

Anyways, my point is simply that if darby is the fastest short distance sprinter in the entire united states, the chances of Marshall being a whole .1 faster than him (which is a ton at these kinds of speeds) are very slim. Sub 4.4? I'll buy it. True 4.22? Color me a skeptic.

Either way, as I said and GreatDayne echoed, the bottom line is that the kid can fly and 40 times really don't matter at all.

I will offically say this:

40 times do matter.

Squats do matter.

Incline does matter.

And power cleans do matter.

I think we can all see by his videos that this kid's speed is for real.

The first time I saw them I thought Rocket. And I never think Rocket.

Then he said he was his new hero, and I fell in love.

Is it possible for Keith to get faster in college?

Or has he hit a terminal velocity, in which humans can no longer continue to run faster?

Keith Arnold's twitter.

YI: Keith Marshall, soon to be 5-star RB, was visiting Gainesville this weekend. RT @Truthh4 not really feeling it..

What a great post. I love this!

The "not really feeling it" post he made has no reference to his visit to Florida. That post was a day after he visited when he was feeling sick. The day he did visit he posted @Truthh4: Had a good time down in Gainesville !"
A complete swing and miss by Arnold on this one...

"Alabama - They have a great program and have produced a lot of good running backs.

"Auburn - They just won a National Championship and I really like the coaching staff.

"Clemson - Good tradition and usually have a good program.

"Florida - Great program and their new staff has had a lot of success in college and in the NFL.

"Florida State - They normally have a good program and they are on the rise.

"Georgia - They always have good RB's and I like the coaches.

"Michigan - Great tradition and good school.

"North Carolina - Program on the rise and a great school.

"Notre Dame - Great school, great tradition, and they are on the rise.

"South Carolina -Have a good program and I like the coaches.

"Stanford - Good program but great school.

"USC - Have a winning tradition and a tradition of having great RB's."

Can someone that has been following recruiting for a while explain the significance of his cancelling his visit? Is it that a terrible sign, i.e. we're now out of it; or is just not a good thing, i.e. he'll most likely visit at some other point. I'm just not all that familiar with how common it is for a player to cancel a visit at this point or how I should regard such a development. Thanks!

I'd say if he doesn't come this weekend we're in really big trouble. He's been to UGA four times, and has been to a couple others in the south (Auburn recently, which he apparently enjoyed).

If this was a situation where he'd been to other schools in the area, that would be one thing. But he hasn't been to any school outside of the South. If he doesn't come this weekend then I'm going to assume he's going to stay in the south.

I would also think this is an awful sign because I believe his "boy" Ronald Darby is visiting this weekend too. Perfect chance for him to visit with his friend. :-/
