Slow off season, I have been doing everything but thinking about ND...well I shouldn't say that as I drop in almost every day, but only spend 10 minutes versus 10 hours....

Anyway this is great, unexpected news. Don't break our hearts Tee (or cause unwanted stress). Welcome to the family! Help cause some more news in April.

I'm oh so very excited I came on IE before I headed to bed tonight! YES is all I can say to this...I have a feeling that as long as we have a good season this class might be of epic proportions and Tee will be the one who started it all!

Can someone put Tee's profile back in the 2012 section please? It took me awhile to find it. Thanks

Yeah, Notre dame is known for it's underhanded, dirty

That jealousy at its purest form......i cant wait for shepard to tee bag the future quarterback of michigan, wait what???!?!

cheating, bag of money recruiting practices. What a nut job. I do respect Michigan as an educational school. I just wish they had real degrees for their football and basketball teams. Didn't the Fab Five have to take pay cuts to go to the NBA?

The scouting reports and the tape are certainly exciting. However, I am especially pumped that this kid has only had eyes for the Irish from the word go. I like that. I think the reputation of Notre Dame's football program is rocketing under Kelly and his staff and T'aJani Shephard might just be the tip of the iceberg.

I love the fact that other west coast teams are melting down over this news. Some are saying Kelley is selling snake oil (aka RichRod reference). One of my partners (Michigan law, Penn undergrad) brought this up to me, and I had to admit Kelley is bribing them--he offers a free $250,000 education, 95%+ graduation rate and a top 20 academic school. If you think about it, very hard to say no! GO IRISH!

This is huge. As stated earlier, if we win 10 games, bet he will stay on board the whole process too. By reading the quotes, this kid seems to be interested in much more than Southern snake oil or free shoes. Kudos to Tee.

Um... guys, he's still taking visits. That means he's NOT committed. It just means we have a good chance of signing him at this point in time.

Great Sapp article on him from 24/7:

Tee Shepard envisioned himself being one of the touted prospects making a college announcement on television. What better way to let the world know where you're headed.

Despite what seemed to be the norm among top college prospects, the Fresno, Calif., native opted to go against the grain and make an early decision.

The benefiter? Notre Dame.

"I always thought I was going to be one of the players that had a big announcement and all of that, but I already had love for Notre Dame," the 6-0, 173-pound cornerback told BlueandGold.com of his decision to make an early pledge to the Irish on March 1. "When they offered I was so happy."

Shepard wasn't the type of prospect that was short of options and needed to hitch himself to a traditional powerhouse to assure a spot, either. This is a recruit that has schools like Auburn, Cal, Colorado, UCLA, USC, Washington and others lobbying for his pledge.

Regardless of the growing list of 27 offers for the standout cover corner, nothing was hitting him quite like the offer from Notre Dame did.

"I wanted to get my decision out of the way because I knew where I wanted to be and didn't want to play games," he shared. "Other schools were starting to blow me up more and it started bugging me, so I wanted to go ahead and commit. My life has changed completely after getting my decision behind me."

Shepard, who is a Future247 recruit, had Miami, Alabama and Arizona as the second-, third- and fourth- place finishers for his choice.

Even though Notre Dame had a good sense that they were in a favorable-early position, the news that Shepard was ready to shut down his recruitment and jump on board as the first commitment for 2012 was a pleasant surprise.

"(Defensive back coach Chuck Martin) told me it made his day," he recalled from his conversation with the staff that morning. "It was important to me that I was the first one because (California recruiter Mike) Denbrock told me he wanted to build the class around me."

According to Shepard's trainer Tony Perry, the future 2012 U.S. All-American averaged approximately eight tackles per game (missed four out of 12 contests due to a shoulder injury). In addition to landing a player that is clearly able to make plays, Notre Dame also fulfilled their requirement for a versatile player in the back end of the defense.

"I've seen him over the last three years and he turned into one of the most-recruited DBs in the country," national recruiting analyst Tom Lemming shared on his thoughts of Shepard. "He's already farther along than any of the DBs they signed in 2011. He can play cornerback or safety for Notre Dame.

"He has great instincts and a great football sense. He's a good kid and the coaches being able to land a kid like him early without even visiting campus shows the power of Notre Dame."

Shepard is slated to take that first trip to South Bend for the Blue-Gold game on April 16 and he'll be accompanied by Perry. Regardless of the talk of Notre Dame's first pledge wanting to see other schools, his trainer doesn't feel that will be the case after he gets to take in what the Irish has to offer during his visit.

Judging by Shepard thoughts on his trainer, that could turn out to be the case.

"I wouldn't be in the situation that I'm in without Coach Perry's help," he said. "I'll always be grateful for what he's done for me."

Tee Shepard's verbal to Notre Dame was a life-changing decision

He'll be a welcome addition to an inexperienced secondary that has just begun tee-thing.

...That was bad.

I share the same sentiment as Dillon. It's disconcerting having him visit other schools, and it may be because he just wants the freebies, or it may be because he isn't sold on ND. The ultimate truth is that we just don't know, and we have to treat him like a commitment whether we have suspicions or not. He really threw the praise on ND though, so I'm happy to have him, unless he decomits.

Only thing he said in his interview that I didn't like was that he wanted to come to Notre Dame instead of (his example) Alabama because at ND he'd be a star and at Alabama they already have lots of guys just like him...sad, sad realizations :(

The visits don't bug me. I would take free trips around the country if I were him too. He sounds like it's been his dream to come to ND for awhile though and the reason he commit so early was because he couldn't not commit (and he was getting tired of hearing from all the other schools).

The kid has a lot of swagger. Very confident. He'll be a great addition to our defense in the future.

Hey, the truth hurts. Until we can play all the time with the teams like Alabama we are going to have to take it. I have no problem with it, it's the truth.

Now saying that, Tee can be part of the new Irish Revolution. The team now, and the new recruits are now starting the new Irish Nation.
