hmm.... is right. This is the kind of thing that leads to sanctions against a school/coach not just players.

Good. I want them all caught. Every single last cheating one of them (and ND were involved in something like this, then we deserve to be caught too). Auburn, SC, OSU, Bama, the entire SEC (sans Vandy) etc etc etc. Clean up this damn sport. I know it's damn near impossible to catch all the violators (or even many of them), but I applaud the NCAA if/when they decide to try and truly take the trash out of this sport.

And if Tressell (who I think is a boring/GREAT coach) really did turn a blind eye to a blatant violation, then he deserves whatever he gets...

There's no proof mentioned in the article. Just hearsay

Yeah but Yahoo is pretty reliable. They don't just report on hearsay. My bet is that they have evidence that try aren't coming out with yet. They will give O$U a chance to respond to see if they lie again.

If OSU has to vacate the season, will Delany vacate his office?

One of the things I'm looking forward to when the wins start piling up is how the nation reacts to someone doing it right. I'll bet the reception for a strong solid and winning the right way Notre Dame football team wins this country's heart big time. College football could use a team that wins big and does it clean. Lets hope Notre Dame stays that way-I think it will-I also think the wins are coming-bigtime.

I'm all for busting cheaters, and I would go so far as banning those who diminish the integrity of the sport for life. But I have to admit that I am a little uncomfortable with the tone being taken (in the yahoo and cft stories and on this board) that regards this story as being a major scandal. I'm sure the NCAA views it as a major infraction. And I know that part of what makes ND great is that we don't participate in the shenanigans of college football, and so our fans rejoice when another program is busted for cheating.

Still, I have a problem with the NCAA's tendency to enforce its draconian rules that govern silly situations instead of hammering those that hand over bags full of money to recruits' family and coaches. How dumb is it that these poor kids can't sell their swag or trade it for things they want? They are indentured servants, basically prohibited from earning money while the schools and the NCAA itself get rich.

If I were a college student and I did a summer internship at an investment bank and they gave me an ipad and some other stuff in lieu of paying me, and as a result I had no money, you can bet your *** I would be selling all the crap they gave me so I could get things I actually wanted or needed. And nobody would lose their job over it or ever hear another word about it.

I think its ridiculous that what these kids did even violated a rule, so it's hard for me to get all bent out of shape about the fact that their coach may have looked the other way. If he looked the other way when a booster gave a kid's father a Ford Explorer or his H.S. coach a duffel bag with $50K in it, then ban his *** for life. But this just seems like a trivial matter to me, and I'd rather see them go after serious violations.

I know as a ND fan I should be happy that one of the football factory schools that has no admission standards and doesn't graduate enough football players may be facing some penalties. And I would be, if I thought that what they were getting penalized about was actually cheating. There must be actual cheating going on at one of these football factories. I wish the NCAA would spend its time worrying about that.

That's funny- I was just thinking the same thing. How ND has been a "joke" to so many people for so long, but as more and more "elite" schools fall in shame for their crooked practices, people will start to notice how ND hasn't been a joke all these years. But rather, they'll realize how they managed to stay relevant DESPITE remaining one of the few truly clean programs. It will be a true return to glory.

For years, Tressel has hidden behind the vest and created false persona of a guy who runs a clean ship. Those, my friends, are the worst of em all.

This is getting mixed reviews from around the POSu boards from what I've seen. Many don't want to believe it, others say so what everyone does it, and there are some that are pretty upset about it.

By far the best one I read though was a guy saying Tressel should just say he didn't know about any of it, but his father knew all about it.

As an Ohio State student, I hope they get taken to the cleaners. I can't stand the football players, they're a bunch of pompous douchebags.

LOL!!!!

Those reporters who broke this story are the same ones who broke the Reggie Bush and the UConn stories, both of which resulted in sanctions. They don't publish stories without adequate backup. If they truly have proof JT knew about it early, then either he violated the terms of his contract and lied to the NCAA, or he passed the info up the food chain and the AD covered it up and lied to the NCAA. Either way, not good for the Bucks.

Maybe this will help us recruit in Ohio this year. Ohio is stacked with talent this year more than recently.

I agree that the sport needs to be cleaned up and I also agree that it is near impossible to find everything. However, punishing elite programs and sending a message that it won't be tolerated would be nice. I like to think that ND is not involved in any kind of wrong doing, but if they are.... Well then, it'll come out eventually.

Our sources tell us Tressel told team this morning to stand firm. Didn't get into specifics, but also did not mention stepping down.

I agree, this excuse has got positive results with regards to the NCAA in the past, why not apply it here???

"In May of 2009, The Columbus Dispatch reported that since 2000, Ohio State had reported to the NCAA more than 375 violations — the most of any of the 69 Football Bowl Subdivision schools that provided documents to the newspaper through public-records requests. Most of the infractions were minor and resulted in little or no punishment."

That is like 3 1/2 violations a month for a decade.

Perspective....

Michael Smith just absolutely destroyed Tressel on Around the Horn. Called him a liar and a bad person. And then Jemele Hill piled on talking about questioning Tressel/O$U's entire legacy during his tenure.

And lastly, J.A. Adande called him a hypocrite and faux role model because he paraded around in front of the media demanding the kids show some accountability.

Then Michael Smith capped it off saying he doesn't ever call for someone's head but that "luckily, reading his contract which he might be in breach of" he might not have to.

Wow.....

I was just listening to the Finebaum show and the topic was all directed at see everybody does it. As if people dont know these guys are not getting educated and its just semi/pro football. Actually lets drop the semi and say its pro football minor league. Here's my popint---there is a perfect storm coming for Notre Dame to pull the nations attention to just what you said-Notre Dame stayed relevant and kept its integrity. While taking its @$$ beatings. What I hope and pray is that the guys coming in who are real football players embrace what Notre Dame stands for and keeps it clean. Like the youtube excerp says Notre Dame is one of the only clean things we have left. If a kid coming in cant keep the creedo then he should take his @$# to one of these places that doesnt give a @#$% about his life skills enrichment and take the $$$ and run. Notre Dame may be poised to have a run and if Kelly can put up a few 2 loss/1loss/undefeated seasons these kids will beat the door down to be part of what no one else has-great football and life skills developement directed at making you a better football player and man. Notre Dame stands alone-make no mistake about it-now just win some football games and they will come. After all its still Notre Dame.
