The Comcast - NBC Universal merger has allowed for ND fans to have increased access to their team on Versus:

The cable channel will mark St. Patrick's Day with three vintage Fighting Irish football games on March 17, a prelude to carrying Notre Dame's 82nd annual Blue-Gold spring football game on April 16, the first time the intrasquad scrimmage has been televised nationally.

Versus' St. Patrick's Day Notre Dame package is set to begin at 4 p.m. with the 1992 Irish comeback victory in the snow against Penn State. The 2005 loss to USC is scheduled for 6 p.m., followed by Notre Dame's 1993 defeat of top-ranked Florida State.

Interspersed among the old games will be host Liam McHugh's interviews with current Irish coach Brian Kelly as well as former platers such as Jerome Bettis. McHugh also will have results of Internet polling on the 10 greatest Notre Dame moments on NBC, as selected by visitors to NBCSports.com, beginning Monday.

Versus' Blue-Gold coverage is set for 1 p.m. on April 16.

Tower Ticker: Notre Dame football: Comcast-NBC Universal merger helps Versus get its Irish up

***ND RELEASE:***

Release From ND On Versus Airings
NEW YORK, N.Y. -- This St. Patrick's Day, VERSUS will "Celebrate the Irish" by televising three of the most legendary Notre Dame football games to ever air on NBC Sports: the 1992 Penn State game, since dubbed "The Snow Bowl"; the "Bush Push" game vs. USC in 2005; and the No. 1 vs. No. 2 matchup against Florida State in 1993. The games, chosen by a "Green-Ribbon" panel of experts, will be shown during the network's six hours of non-stop coverage beginning Thursday, March 17, at 5 p.m. ET.

Throughout the three-game celebration, hosted by Liam McHugh, the network will conduct in-depth interviews with current Head Coach Brian Kelly as well as Notre Dame legends, such as ex-NFL superstar Jerome Bettis. Beginning today, fans can visit NBCSports.com (http://irish.nbcsports.com/2011/03/0...oments-on-nbc/) to watch clips and vote for the 10 "Greatest Notre Dame on NBC Moments." The results will be unveiled during VERSUS' six hours of "Celebrate the Irish" coverage on St. Patrick's Day.

Additionally, VERSUS will air the 82nd Annual Blue-Gold spring football game on April 16 at 2 p.m. ET, marking the first time that Notre Dame's traditional spring scrimmage game will be televised nationally. This year's game possesses extra interest and excitement as Notre Dame returns 17 starters that ended 2010 on a four-game winning streak, including All-America candidates wide receiver Michael Floyd, safety Harrison Smith and linebacker Manti Te'o.

NOTRE DAME ON VERSUS SCHEDULE:

Thursday, March 17
5 pm ET 1992 "Snow Bowl" vs. Penn State
7 pm ET 2005 "Bush Push" vs. USC
9 pm ET 1993 No. 1 Florida State vs. No. 2 Notre Dame

Saturday, April 16
2 pm ET 82nd Annual Blue-Gold Spring Football Game

ND/Penn State - Nov. 14, 1992: Arguably one of the most exciting games in college football history, Notre Dame's final home contest of the '92 season became an instant classic. The players took to the field during a winter storm making it forever known in South Bend as "The Snow Bowl." The Nittany Lions took the lead late in the fourth quarter, but then the Irish stormed back when Jerome Bettis caught a touchdown pass from quarterback Rick Mirer, putting the Irish within one point of Penn State (16-15). Coach Lou Holtz went for the two-point conversion and Mirer threw a complete pass to Reggie Brooks to put the Irish on top for the victory over Penn State.

ND/USC - Oct. 15, 2005: Despite losing to rival USC, this game was an essential addition to all-time lists as the Trojans were riding a 27-game winning streak and were the defending National Champions. Notre Dame, also undefeated at 4-0 on the season, lead 31-28 with just over two minutes remaining in the much-hyped game. Then, USC drove the length of the field to Notre Dame's two-yard line, completing a fourth-and nine from their own 26-yard line in the process, and then scored the winning touchdown on a controversial play with what would later become known as the "Bush-push." After USC's quarterback Matt Leinart was initially stopped by the Irish defense on the goal line, USC's Reggie Bush pushed Leinart into the end zone with seven seconds remaining on the clock, giving the Trojans a 34-31 victory.

ND/Florida State - Nov. 13, 1993: Listed among many as one of the "Games of the Century," the No. 1 Florida State Seminoles and the No. 2 Fighting Irish were both undefeated heading into this game. The winner of this highly-anticipated contest was certain to move on to the Orange Bowl and play for the National Championship. Despite being the underdogs, the Irish were leading the game 31-17 with just over a minute left to play when Florida State quarterback, and subsequent Heisman Trophy winner, Charlie Ward, threw a miraculous touchdown pass to Kez McCorvey to pull the Seminoles within seven points of Notre Dame. After recovering the onside kick, Notre Dame punted the ball back to the Seminoles after going three downs without picking up a first down. Florida State had one final chance to tie the game, but Ward missed his receiver and Notre Dame secured the upset victory, 31-24.

This is awesome. I've been telling everyone that Comcast was going to utilize Versus and promote ND football on that channel.

I didn't think this would happen so soon, though!!!

I hope this is followed up with more classic games, coaches programs, practice reports, and replays and news of games from the current season. Maybe not all of that at once, but this type of programming should be the goal if I'm someone like Jack Swarbrick.

This is awesome news. I have not been able to see a Spring Game since I was a student (to hard to get back to campus). Now I will be able to watch it on TV. It will also be great to watch some of those replays on St. Patrick's Day.

This is awesome. I'm all the way down here in TX and it will be great to see a spring game. I'll have my guiness ready!

And what a nice bonus to get to watch some classics...I vote for ND vs FSU 93. Talk about a game full of stars and a fantastic finish.

That is AWESOME! Thanks for the info. I wouldn't have chose the 05 U$C game though. The 92 Sugar Bowl would have been a better choice IMO.

I think they're putting NBC games only...right?

The '92 Sugar Bowl was probably on CBS or another channel.

Talk about a fantastic St. Patty's day. Except re-living the "Bush push".

But I'll be about 8 pints in by then...I'll probably be yelling at the screen about how he loses his heisman, broke his leg in the pros...yadda yadda yadda. I will be in rare form.

Best part is that I'll be watching it in a bar with mostly FSU fans :)

Such a great game. You forget just how good Charlie Ward was. And what great rosters.

Lee Becton was awesome in that one. Especially against that D

That's funny because I was just re-watching YouTube clips from this game and I had those exact three thoughts:

A. Both teams looked great
B. Charlie Ward was so good
C. Lee Becton was running like an animal

Of course that game will win in a landslide in the voting. The '92 PSU game was great, and the '05 USC game was memorable, but you can't beat a No. 1 versus No. 2 matchup and an Irish victory!

I still claim to this day that Ward was one of the best players I've ever watched. The way he could not only run, but throw the ball. He won just about every award that year.

I was lucky enough to be a student for both the 92 PSU game and the 93 FSU game. I still have a picture hanging on my wall of the PSU game. However, there was nothing like that 93 FSU game. Great game, got to run onto the field after and then seeing the #1 lit up that week was awesome. OF course it all came crashing down because of Fredo the next week, but for one week it was heaven.

I am a bit younger and was on my way home from scout camp (can't believe I was in boy scouts) and my step father, who is a UofM alum, taped the news paper to the door of the BC kicker raising his hands. I nearly stabbed my stepfather with my scout knife.

And my mom is a Suckeye alum. Go figure.

This is GREAT news! I was debating on whether or not to go out there for the game, but now I don't have to.
