Coach Kelly just said that he is considering moving Riddick back to RB. Might imply that that Huggins is defintely not Irish.

I feel bad saying this but this kid is going to be an avg back behind whatever type of offensive line that they put together.

No offense but have you seen our OL? Not much better then Rutgers! Given our obvouis lack of talent at RB by even thinking about moving Theo...we need this kid bad!

Ouch, we're atleast getting better we ran the ball very well the last 4 games...would not compare us to Rutgers on a bad day.

I know Rutgers had a down year on the OL but the last few years we have both been below average.

Good for him staying home thinking thats the best place for him you can't blame him. And it sounded like he wanted to play with Shuler. Have fun against that TCU defense.

Not that we were great, but Rutgers was 111th in rushing last year. Third worse among BCS teams, just ahead of Washington State and Indiana.

Rutgers also averaged 2.72 yards per carry in 2010, 118th worse. That is beyond bad.

Blue & Gold has a premium article up about him narrowing it down to three programs. Anybody have access?

So... in the chaos theory where we get Niklas and Huggins and Haynes.... what the heck happens to our 5th years??

Mike Farrel said on his Thursday radio show that he thinks that Huggins has been Rutgers for some time.

No offense to Riddick. But, If I were Huggins looking at that situation from afar, I'd be thinking that if they have to resort to moving Riddick back to RB, I could come to ND and make a difference. Riddick (IMO) simply doesn't have enough bulk to survive at the RB position. The slot was perfect for him. I hope that we don't have to move him back to RB.

Either way, I would think that Kelly has sent a message....we need RBs.

There are many small running backs who excel in college. Maybe they won't be successful in the NFL, but smaller backs like Dion Lewis, LaMichael James, and Kendall Hunter, and Jacquizz Rodgers have been among the elite.

I think the main point that the previous poster was making is that Kelly made comments in is press conference specifically pointing at the glaring hole at running back. He talked about moving Riddick not as a certainty but as a threat almost so that Huggins would get the point. Now Huggins can think to himself, not only does Coach Kelly tell this to me in private but he also has broadcast it in public. Now Huggins doesn't think that he's just another guy to Kelly and that Kelly is not worried about offending any other RB's tied to ND (Roberson, Wood, Gray, McDaniel).

When Te'o was being recruited, everyone thought he was USC bound, but the staff believed they had a real shot. Everything i have read is that Kelly and Co. do not believe Huggins will pick ND.

It is recruiting and you never know what could happen, but the Huggins situation does not look good.

You can never have too much talent at RB. I know Holtz was a run first coach but the last national campionship team had so much talent at RB I sometimes wished they would have allowed us 5 backs in the backfield. As much as anyone wants to pigeonhole RB's each one brings something special to the field each time they step on it. Plus the more great backs you have the fresher they will be. It also helps to throw the defense off. In my book there is plenty of room for these backs and Huggins too.

Not too concerned about who we pick up at RB. I'm even ok with no one this year and a 4* or two next year. When it's all said and done the most important part of the running game is the OL. If they are opening gaps I'm pretty sure Gray, Wood, Roberson or McDaniel will be plenty capable of bursting through them. BK knows what he's doing.. Getting the best talent on the lines will be our return to glory!

So one of the main reasons that I've seen for why Savon would pick the Irish is that he wanted to be a part of a good recruiting class and many people have noted how much better ours is than theirs. But they just got a 4 star (ESPN) lineman today which makes 3 including Shuler and a DT. And many of their other 20 recruits are ranked as pretty high 3 stars. This has to be one of their best classes in a while and if they add Savon then I would think definitely.

Just struck me because I assumed they had a mediocre class but I kept seeing them get commitments from solid recruits and the 4 star OL today pushed me to post something.

Not that I think he's a Rutgers lock but just that this particular reason I don't think is so much in our favor as we assume.
