We are adding some serious beef into this team. I'm loving it. Over are the days of us looking like midgets and getting pushed around in the trenches.

"I told them I was joining the Irish family and they started screaming," Hounshell said. "They picked me up and they all hugged me. They were very happy."

Not only does THE coaching staff work hard, they are powerful as hell, too!

Wow. Every day is a shock at this point. I hope the shocks continue to be positive. Great job by the staff.

Gotta love coming back to the computer to see another commit. Our D is going to be vicious!

This might be a dumb question, but I'll ask anyway. I vaguely remember Chase wanting to early enroll at UF, but then delayed it. Did he graduate early and thus eligible to early enroll? If so, any chance he gets into classes tomorrow?

Again... sorry if this is a dumb question.

I do not believe he was approved for EE at ND. So I doubt it could happen. More time to work out.

Redshirt candidate. With Tuitt, Williams, and Lynch likely to get on the field next year for pass rush and 2nd and long situations, we need a kid like Hounshell to put on those 15-30 pounds and anchor the class below him.

Solid pick up. It'll add depth to the DE corp, especially w/ EJ and KLM running out of eligability.

Look for him to put on the weight, get stronger, and take the extra year via red shirt.

So, the story on II is that the coaches and Chase spoke for 2 - 3 hours. Chase ended the conversation saying he would visit this weekend and then decide. As the coaches (Diaco and Elston) were leaving he got a gut feeling and told him he wanted to become part of the ND Family. They started screaming and picked him up and hugged him to celebrate. He called Muschamp up afterwards, and told him he was decommitting.

Sorry if this has already been discussed here, but according to the SBT article, he has experience in the O-line, and in the spread. Any chance he gets moved over there, with all the other DE's we have?

Is the a chance, yes, but it doesn't seem likely at least next year.
There's some earlier discussion on that but brief. There is (was) a belief that he's more comfortable on the defensive side and concerned about putting on the weight for OLine. Don't know if that fact or conjecture. ESPN's evaluation of him notes he plays both but they see him playing DE - until he adds weight and moves inside. They think he's got the frame to play DT. IF he does, he could just as well add the weight to play on the OLine.

Tonight's IrishIllustrated article noted the coaches told him they want him to add 15 pounds to go from 270 to 285 and play DE.

I imagine where he plays will depend on his growth and development.

That's what I was thinking...we are loaded at DE. Would be nice if he moved to the o-line.

imo his committment really is a great sign for the future of the ND program because it shows there is going to be real competition. not that i think he will contribute right away but rather he will develop with the program. as much as everyone here hates usc their motto under pete was "never stop competeing". he has got to know that he is at best the third DE in this class yet he made the choice to come here and compete for pt. i dont know how much real competition there has been on the derfensive side of the ball the last 20 or so years. imo the drop off between the 1's and 2's or the 2's and the 3's for the last couple of decades have been closer to a mac program than the national power all of us expect ND to be.(ie. the DE Ryan kid playing early in his career) hopefully his committment and this class is sign that those days are finaly over...

After watching his video off of Irish Illustrated I think he is better as an offensive lineman.

I read that the coaching staff wants him to put 15lbs on to get up to 285 and be a run stopping defensive end. They say he is more primed for the defensive side but things do change once they get on campus and coaches look for needs (Riddick)
