Confirmed by ISD.

I don't see how you guys think this is bad for ND. He's a very good player who was committed to one of the best teams in the nation. I don't facebook so I have no idea what he said, but I do know that he came to ND on his own dime to camp, looking for an offer that never came. Maybe he was bitter...who knows? I do know that he came up on an OV in the dead of winter on a non-football weekend (so spare me with the 'he's just using ND to watch a free game' talk) and his interest pretty much has to be legit.

And if Amir is persuaded by a high school kid that ND isn't right for him, well guess what...ND isn't right for him.

If he commits to ND I for one will welcome him with open arms.

It sounds like the backhands @ ND were sour grapes. It's pretty obvious the kid wanted an Irish offer, felt slighted that he didn't get one, and then went on the defensive.

As a teacher, I see this play out time and time again with kids. It's just how teenagers can be sometimes and I don't think it is a negative reflection on Hounshell, but just sort of an illustration of a teenager acting like a teenager.

Hey everyone, I know I am new to the forum but I have seen Chase play and he is a big kid from a Catholic school. I bet he was a little upset by not being offered. If he wants to come to ND then why not take him in. If Urban wanted him so do I.

It never ceases to amaze me how this message board for grown men and fans can resemble a board filled with whiny bitter women. Who cares that he sent a text, the kid is a player and would be a great steal. Once again this is college recruiting, are we going to bitch about every recruit that doesn't pick ND first? Because there sure is a long line of them. If BK didn't see something in Chase he wouldn't be wasting his time and if Chase didn't see something in ND he wouldn't have camped on his own dime or visited on an off weekend in the snow.

He has publicly criticized Notre Dame. Could not care less.

Yeah he basically went from begging for an offer to "**** Notre Lame" when Florida offered. Classy. Did we ever get to the rumors of him being on campus with Amir?

I'm sure many other recruits have criticized Notre Dame in the past and ended up enrolling as well. I'm sure many of you have said things about something and still did it. He was probably just frustrated. I'm sure he probably wanted to come to ND and didn't feel wanted. With social networks these days everything gets out. I'm one of the few of my generation that absolutely hates Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace, and whatever else there is.

My Dad calls it FaceSpace......

But if this kid can help us win, and will come in and be a good part of this team, I would welcome him.

I would assume that our coaches haven't said a word to him about his tweet, or anything else for that matter, since he committed to Florida. The lack of interest by our staff is probably what led to his negative comments in the first place. I dont know why they would change their stance after he made them.

I'll ask again, was there ever any confirmation that he was on campus with Amir a couple weeks ago? Or was that just a BS rumor?

You're missing the point jmurph. It'd be the equivalent of LeBron announcing he is signing with the Heat, and then going out of his way to say "I hate Cleveland. The city sucks and is full of fat people." Then before he signs the dotted line... something goes wrong with the coaches or players and he decides he doesn't want to got there.

Would Cleveland take him back? Probably, because he's LeBron. What if it was a bench player like Luke Harangody? The answer is hell no. I don't think there is any way the coaches would want him now unless:
1. They have open schollies on signing day
2. We get more defections.
3. His trash talking has been grossly over-exaggerated and they haven't really gotten wind. but if they've ever heard from another recruit or anyone else they care about "well Chase Hounshell said..." you better believe it matters to them then.

DISCLAIMER: I've never been to Cleveland and am just making up a hypothetical derogatory comment for LBJ.

Yes, he was on campus, and got himself an $85 steak at Ruth's. Tweeted or posted it on his Facespace, not sure.

I fully get the point and just disagree, I like your scenario with Lebron but it's not an apples to apples comparison. This is an 18 year old kid that facebooked or tweeted Notre Lame, he didn't insult or attack any players, coaches, tradition or beleifs. We don't even know why he said it (his feelings were hurt, showing off, disapoinment). I'm not even saying that we should or should not take him I just think the kid could be a productive player for us, and I was poking fun at some of the post....you'd think the kid said something about someone's momma! It was a tweet for god's sake let's let it go and move on.

All these possibilities [expected or surprises] about DEs lately make me suspect that Kelly thinks that it's a good chance that ND won't get another OT and that both Springman and Carrico will be slated for that side of the ball. If so, he needs another DE as a priority. I'll bet his board has arrows going between the short OT list and the Short DE list with "if, then..." written on them. All I've read here suggests that unless Nick Martin flips, we may be deep sh*t with shallow shoes as far as another good O-lineman is concerned. P.S. I'll trust Kelly to assess the young Hounshell's character and ball potential from a lot closer observation point than we have. Trust the coach. He was not born under a cabbage leaf yesterday. [despite how Irish he looks].

I definitely understand what you are saying Old man Mike, but I believe we are more interested in Hounshell as an OL. I believe thats the position he is slated to play at UF also.

Hounshell is reporting a Notre Dame offer as of 5:06 p.m. on January 1st.

Possible offensive line recruit, telling me things don't look good for Clear and/or Niklas.

Things dont look good for Clear and never have. The kid wants to play TE and only TE and that's not what ND wants from him. Cameron Clear will most likely end up at Alabama with Tennessee and Duke in the mix.

Niklas is very much in the mix with ND. We get his last visit before NSD and with Harbaugh rumors bouncing around, we might have a real shot.
