I'm starting to feel less confident in our chances to land this kid. Hope I am wrong because we could sure use him, but just have funny feeling he is going to be tough to get.

Really...I think someone should bring the graduation rates of their football players to his attention!

I was thinking the same thing! One of our facebook stalkers needs to post those rates on his wall. I laughed a little when he was talking about Dyer being in study hall all the time. No chance that kid gets a degree, he will hop to the league as soon as he is eligible. They knew Savon was high on academics so I am sure they all tucked their shirts in and put on their "smart" glasses and pretended as though they were some elite academic school.

“Academics always come first to me,” he said. “I liked how they were talking about graduating in three-and-half years. That is what I really liked about the school.
LOL!!! Did they also happen to mention that only 47% of African American players at Auburn graduate? Did they mention the 59% overall grad rate?

Three and a half years? That's an ND thing son. Except unlike Auburn, our athletes actually complete their degree.

I have no problem if he picks Auburn for the football side of it and the SEC thing and the women and all that, but I truly hope he and especially his mother didn't buy that academic bullcrap they were hearing. You can get a nice education at Auburn, but it pales in comparison to ND and the grad rates are a joke.

I also hope he realizes that Auburn is going to under a TON of scrutiny from the NCAA in the next year or so.

hahahahaha that last part about academics is hilarious. Do kids seriously not understand how much the SEC lies to them on that front? It's academics last, football first. If you're OK with that, fine. But don't think you're going to any school but Vandy to get an education first.

I actually find it just unbelievable that Auburn tried to put on the "Academics First" speech with this kid. How could they really look him in the face and do that??????

What was the grad rate of Auburn for its football players over the last several years?? I believe I saw something like 60% or less. Did Auburn change their academic plan this past weekend?? They must have if they are now proclaiming academic excellence!!!!

I for one will say that I am not confident on Savon joining the Irish, but I will not say it is for a lack of BK and staff efforts. They want this kid bad and are pulling out all stops. I for one would be pointing out the FACTS regarding Auburn's academics.

Huggins isn't coming to Notre Dame. If he was, Shuler would have committed to ND. Shuler must know that Huggins isn't going to be a Golden Domer. Oh Well.

Vandy is really the only SEC school that you could claim that has a strong academic record.

Isaiah Crowell has long been favoring Bama and Georgia but Auburn has apparently been coming on strong lately. Auburn is his last visit on 1/28. Could factor into Huggins decision...

Savon set his announcement date for 28 Jan. Irony?

He and Shuler both have always seemed to be looking for reasons not to commit to ND. I think we still have a shot with Huggins, and it would be great if he came here, but I've always just had a weird vibe he and Shuler both never had any genuine interest in coming here. Hope I'm wrong.

At the risk of sounding to "optimistic" could ND be the measuring stick...that he is measureming these schools? Likely...no...hopeful ...yes....

I think I may have been in denial for a while but I think now that our chances of landing him have really diminished. With the recent sequence of events (his recent visit to Auburn, Shuler committing to Rutgers, and now his dad announcing a committ date) it is setting up for him to most likely be going elsewhere. It has to be Rutgers or Auburn at this point. I hope I am wrong.....

Gents,
I hate to burst everyones bubble who is holding out hope, but this kid is just NOT coming to ND. Kelly and crew have given him every ounce of love they can and he is just not returning it.

Let's just move on to another back or start working hard on a pair for next season. We will need two good ones in 2012 if we do not land another this year.

I agree with JonesMan...the staff can only give so much love. THis guy is gone...

We should focus on Amir...he is our best shot....and I really really like this kid.

Latest from Rival's recruiting analyst Mike Farrell:

To me, Huggins is the easier prediction as I think he'll end up at Rutgers and have thought so all along. Even with Notre Dame making a big move of late, North Carolina having family in the area and Auburn selling its great running back tradition, but in the end I think he stays home. Michigan State now is scheduled for a visit and there had been talk of a trip out to see USC, but Rutgers gets the last visit and the comfort level and early playing time is high there.
