Dayne would be stupid to go to the NFL this year he really didn't do that much for the scouts. And with Luck,Mallet,Locklear he would be lucky to be a 3rd round pick.

Way too early to speculate on this kind of stuff. We have no idea who will start out of Crist, Rees, Golson or Hendrix, and trying to pick transfers based on who might start is next to impossible. The only thing we do know is that Massa won't be starting.

Which is also speculation at this point. If you say it's to early to speculate on transfers and starters, then how does your last statement make sense.
"We have no idea who will start...."
"The only thing we do know is that Massa won't be starting."

How do you know? Because he is a three star and not talked about nearly as much as others? Who would have thought that Tommy Rees would have been starting the last four games back in September? It's college football and transfers and injuries play roles in who starts and who doesn't. So it is also far to early to speculate on who the starter will and wont be.

What do you mean, the NFL wouldn't want an Underclassman QB with limited experience, two bum knees, and a helmet that doesn't fit? I love Dayne and still think he could be the guy, but come on... really?

These are the only facts that I can determine that make up my woefully incomplete set of speculation bases: 1). Crist has great physical tools to be some kind of quarterback somewhere. He has not yet shown [me, anyway] that he has the "emotional" tools to remain "ice" in the heat of the action. Maybe he has that in him; it is not yet apparent to me. He is also, as much as I and everyone else loves Dayne and roots for him, undeniably fragile---three times already he has gone down. Any coaching staff that I was part of would be extremely concerned about all of this;

2). Tommy Rees, God bless him [and I root for him at least as hard as I root for Dayne ], seems to lack certain quarterback skills [most noticeably when he throws ugly wobblers for no apparent pressured reason, and gets balls constantly and dangerously tipped]. He DOES seem to have the emotional base to be a quarterback though. One makes no assumptions as to whether he can polish up the rest of his game or not. Once again, if I were on a coaching staff, I'd have to be concerned;

3). Hendrix and Massa. All I will have seen of these guys is in running the scout team in practice. I would have nothing to choose between them except that Hendrix apparently "beat out" Massa for that job, and was deemed more ready by Kelly to be the third-team QB when Crist went down. The only "fact" that slipped out was the one quote from Kelly as to how fast Hendrix gets the ball out of his hand; [if I had to take an intuition away from all of this, it would be that quote, as Kelly rates that particular talent extremely high];

4). Golson may turn out to be the greatest QB in ND history [and I hope he is], but all we know so far is that he is a great high school QB who might fit Kelly's system. We also know that the staff thinks he's real good or they wouldn't be bothering. AND, we know that the staff isn't comfortable with what they've got now [as any slam dunk anyway] for the same reason.

Bottomline: I believe on this topic that Kelly is not much better off than we are on IE in being able to see his future QB situation clearly. [and I think that is almost NEVER true of our/IE "status" on "seeing"]. I believe that he is pursuing Golson because he honestly believes that he MIGHT be the best QB on campus even next year. At the same time I believe that he hasn't drawn a line through anyone's name yet, including Luke Massa's.

watching kelly at cincy theres only one thing i know for sure, he'll take his fourth string qb and make him a star, so the last thing i even worry about is the qb situation.

Come on Everett.... make the right decision. Ask yourself which school you have a better chance of winning a Heisman at.

Crist wouldn't even get drafted.

Not only would he not get drafted he wouldn't even get invited to a camp for a tryout. Common people, let's try to be realistic even if we are hardcore ND fans.

Hopefully Golson commits after meeting with Alford.

Why would any of these guys transfer at this point, it's not like Kelly has a history of keeping his QB's healthy. We used 3 guys THIS YEAR. When he was at UC, did he have one season where he had the same guy all year? We need at least 3 QB's prepared ready to go. So that means we probably need to carry 5 including any redshirts.

And it's not like this problem is going to go away, because Kelly will probably try to bring in a QB every cycle. We will always be stacked at that spot. Guys that want to compete will come in and do just that, guys that don't have the heart to deal with 4 other scholarship QB's won't even look at ND.

Regarding point 3 and Bottomline: I believe Kelly also mentioned that Hendrix has the strongest arm he's ever seen as a coach. I remember last year ESPN commented on this as well saying that Hendrix had some of the biggest upside in the class. Lightening fast release + incredibly strong arm generally equal success in any system. Add in the fact that Hendrix is pretty athletic and I highly doubt Kelly believes this kid will be the best QB next year. IMO it is far more likely that he is adding depth and a player who brings another dimension to the table. I sorta feel like people are reading to much into this. It's possible that I'm not reading enough into it though. Who knows.

The truth is all of us speculating here have no idea what the coaches actually think. Personally, from the numerous comments Kelly has made about wanting a dual threat QB to "run his offense the way it is supposed to be run," I would expect any dual threat QB to come in and compete immediately. I don't know if he will win, but you better imagine that there will be an open competition between everyone on the roster next year. That might be Dayne, it might be Rees, it might be Hendrix and it might be Santa Claus.

We will all just have to wait and see, but I promise you Kelly is looking for more than "depth." He is looking for the QB will step up, grab the reigns of the offense and become a star.

yeah Hendrix has great skill sets and Golson is a very good fit for this spread offense. But people need to remember that EXPERIENCE is a huge factor in all of this. You can't just expect a kid who has never played at the college to come in and play at a high level.

If kelly starts a guy other than Rees or Crist, we will see struggles like we saw early in the season. These guys just don't have experience yet, and it would just be another setback to start a first time starter.

Golson would be great. Love his film. But, I am truly happy with Hendrix, Rees, and Crist. I really like those guys.

Michael Vick is 6'. So is Drew Brees. Thanks for playing though.

Wrong on Jimmy's height. He was over 6'2" at the combine last year.

His Combine height was 6'2.5" and the pro day was 6'2.5"
